6 Login Using Your User ID And Password In the address box at the top of the page, delete the address already typed in by clicking the left button of the mouse to highlight the address and press delete on the keyboard, (the address box will be cleared). Type in in the address box, press enter. This will bring you to the Windows Live Hotmail sign-in page. On the right hand side of the screen, the cursor will automatically be flashing in the Windows Live ID box. Type in your user name then click in the password box underneath and type in your password. Click sign in. 6

7 Your Hotmail account INBOX would now be displayed with a single welcome message from the service. Including the Inbox, there are five folders in your Hotmail account - Junk, Drafts, Sent and Deleted. The Junk folder holds messages identified as spam or phishing scams (junk), the Drafts folder stores the s you have created and saved, Sent has all the s you have sent from your Hotmail account and Deleted contains the messages you have deleted. Furthermore, you can create more folders by clicking on Manage folders link. 7

To reply or forward the , use the helpful links at the top. You can also move the message to a specific folder using "Move to" options from the menu bar. No further use for the message? Clicking on the "Delete" link will send it to the "Deleted" items folder. 9 Write your message You are now ready to write your first message from Hotmail. The online composition form has three fields: To: This is where you specify the address of the recipient. 10 Some more tips for composing and sending s from Hotmail Send to more than one recipient The easiest way to send an to more than one person is to include all the addresses, separated by commas, in the To: field itself. You can also employ the Cc and the Bcc fields, which are not shown by default, to send s to multiple recipients. Click on the Show Cc & Bcc link to display these two fields. The main difference between Cc (Carbon copy) and Bcc (Blind carbon copy) is that in the latter the addresses of the recipients are hidden from each other. Spell check The Hotmail spell checker works in real-time in modern web browsers which means the moment you make a spelling error it shows up with a red underline. If you are using an older (or unsupported) browser, click on the Spell check link to catch misspellings in your message. Assigning importance to your Hotmail also allows you to set the level of importance for your message. You can choose to mark your as High or Low in the importance scale. 11 Move s in Hotmail There are 5 default folders in Hotmail - Inbox, Junk, Drafts, Sent and Deleted - each with a specific purpose and function. The "Inbox", for instance, stores all incoming s while the "Junk" folder gets messages that have been identified as spam and phishing scams by the automated junk filter. You can also create folders in Hotmail for organizing and segregating s - a feature absent in Gmail. You can easily move s to different folders - even the ones you create. And this is great for cleaning the Hotmail Inbox folder - getting rid of spam which has escaped the automated junk filter and landed in the Inbox. Also sometimes legitimate s may be marked as potential spam and moved directly to the Junk. You can move these messages back to your inbox with a couple of clicks. Two ways to manually move s in Hotmail To move an message, you need to first select it by clicking on the box in front. This puts checkmark in the box. Then click the Move link (or the small downward arrow to its right) and specify the folder to which the message needs to be moved to. Refer the image below, in which we are moving a legitimate message lying in the Junk folder to the Inbox. Hotmail also offers a drag-n-drop functionality. You can actually click on a message and with the left mouse key still held down, drag the to a folder and then release it. I know this works on Internet Explorer 7 and Google Chrome on the Vista Home Premium operating system. 1
