1 burningpermit.com Getting Started 1. Using the Burning Permit Console Program a. Run the program i. Always answer yes to the security certificate. ii. When the login dialog box pops up requesting a username or password, type your assigned member-id. iii. Type your password and press enter. 2. Logging into the Management Console via the Internet Browser a. Logging into the Console (Use the Burning Permit Console Program to bypass most of these 7 steps) i. Navigate your internet browser to members.burningpermit.com. ii. In the top center of the navigation area, click on the member zone link. iii. Always answer yes to the certificate pop-up. iv. Type the name of your assigned member-id. v. When the box pops up, type your assigned member-id. vi. Type your password and press enter. vii. Choose desired action while in the Member Zone. (Usually Burning Permit Console) 3. Using the Management Console Burning Permit Console Manual a. To use the Console i. When working with the menu items, click once on the desired action. Clicking on the word menu in the top left corner, you will return to the root menu. ii. To Exit the management console, close the browser window. iii. Using the Waiting Requests menu item 1. Choose a waiting request by clicking the underlined word(s). a. Click on a name to view a pending request. i. Review the information, click desired initials in the drop down list, and choose the desired action. ii. Your options are to Approve or Deny the request for a permit. iii. When you choose Approve, the customer receives notification via their web browser that the permit has been approved, displaying a link to print their legal when signed, burning permit with the lower portion restating points of safety and responsibility. iv. When you choose Deny, the customer receives a Denial via their web browser that the permit has been Denied. The person also receives a link to reapply for another permit. pg. 1

2 b. After approving or denying permits, navigate to the Current Permits list to view the permits. iv. Using Current Permits menu item 1. Clicking on the person s name will show you the detail of their permit. Contact info, what they are burning, address, etc 2. The only option you have in the detail view here is revoked. To revoke a permit that is currently approved, simply click the revoke button. No action is taken except that you now see that the permit status has changed from D-delivered to R-revoked. v. Using the Manual Entry menu item 1. This menu item is used for walk in customers or other in person permit situations. Simply enter the appropriate information, and the permit will print when the submit button is clicked. Remember to fill the form in completely. vi. Using the Permit History menu item 1. Choose to see specific records by last name, first name, date issued, or a specific range of dates. Results will be visible on the lower half of the screen. vii. Using the Annual Permit List 1. The Annual Permits List is also editable, by entering the information in the corresponding boxes. You may remove a record by clicking edit to the left of the desired record and in the edit area of the page, click delete. 2. To issue a permit to an annual permit holder, simply click the issue on the right side and then complete the application page in full to issue the permit. The permit will now show in the current permit list. viii. Using The Ban List menu item 1. The ban list is editable; you may add people to the list by entering the information in the corresponding boxes and clicking add new. You may remove a record by clicking delete to the right of the record. ix. Using Announcements 1. Custom messages can be created here. Simply click on create a new message and then go to the message below and click on it. Highlight and remove the Text Goes Here and replace it with your new message. 2. Either the message can be used as the Service Offline message all of the time by clicking use this message, or it can just be saved in the list of available messages by clicking keep my changes to this message. 3. The message label can also be changed at any time using the box above the message on the same page. pg. 2

3 pg The message that has the asterisk next to it is the message that will be displayed when the service is off line. x. Using Service Control 1. To turn the service off and let people know that you are currently not issuing permits, click Switch Service Off. 2. To turn the service on, just click Switch Service On. 3. User defined values is a menu item where changes can be made regarding information about the account. However we ask that you refrain from using this page unless instructed to do so by us. 4. MFS site link is for linking to the Maine Forest Service Administration site. xi. Using the Weather menu item 1. Simply put, this information comes from a NOAA RSS Feed, and the Maine Forest Service RSS Feed. This information is only as accurate as the provider is able to make it. b. Closing the Console i. You may log out of the console at any time by closing either the Burning Permit Console Program or closing the Web Browser. 4. About the Public Interface. a. How to get a permit. i. The customer will navigate their web browser to ii. The customer will then click on the desired state and community in which to apply for a permit. iii. The customer will then acknowledge that they have read all of the Open Burning Guidelines. iv. Next the customer will enter their last name v. Next the customer will enter either a previously used password, or create a new password. vi. At this point, the customer will enter the required information on the application page then click submit. vii. Next the customer will be sent to a status page, where they can wait for a response to their application submission. The page will automatically refresh for them every minute. viii. The user s password is displayed for them to either print or copy while they wait for their permit to be acted upon. ix. When action is taken on the permit, the user will be displayed the status of their permit. The user will either receive a Print Your Permit response or a denial response. These are the only actions that will happen. (No )
