1 Creating a Netvibes Account 1. If you closed your Internet browser from the last exercise, open it and navigate to: htt:// 2. Click Sign In in the upper right corner of the screen. 3. Click the link Sign up. 4. Enter the required information to register: username, , and password. 5. Check the box I agree with the Terms of Service. 6. Click Sign Up.

2 7. Click Add Content. 8. Click on the Start Wizard link. 9. Type in your city to get the weather for your city. 10. Choose the country you want local content for. 11. Click Next.

3 12. Chose the interests you would like feeds for by checking the appropriate boxes. 13. Click Next to go on to the next section. 14. Choose any of the widgets that are advertising partners with Netvibes.not required. 15. Check the box to confirm that you want Netvibes to be your start page for your browser. This means that each time you open your browser, your Netvibes account will start. 16. Click Show me my page. 17. Choose whether you want Netvibes to be your homepage, or one of the tabs that automatically opens when you load your Internet browser.

4 Embedding Your Gmail Account 18. Click on Edit under the widget. 19. Type in the required information: Title, Login ( address), and password. 20. Choose how many messages you want displayed at a time. 21. Click Enter to confirm. The widget will reload and show your Gmail account. 22. Click Next at the bottom of the widget to read the next set of s.

5 Embedding a Widget 23. Click on Add Content. 24. Click on Browse Categories or Essential Widgets. 25. Choose the category (widget) you want to embed: news, business, sports, etc. 26. Click on the Next button to see more of them. 27. Click and drag it onto your page and release when it s in the location you want.

6 Embedding a Feed from Google News 28. If you closed your browser from the previous exercise, open it and navigate to Google News Generate a search on a particular topic, as discussed in the previous session (see Google News). 30. Click on the RSS link on the bottom left of the window. 31. Copy the URL, which should end in RSS.

7 32. Open your Netvibes account if you closed it from the previous lesson and click on Add Content. 33. Click on Add a Feed. 34. Paste the URL address into the feed box. 35. Click Add Feed. 36. Click and drag the feed to the position you want on the page.

8 Embedding a Podcast Series 37. Open an internet browser and navigate to K12 Online Conference Click on Subscribe to Updates on the right side of the screen about half way down the page. 39. Highlight the link (URL) - Notice that the link has a feedburner address rather than a K12 Online Conference address. Feedburner ( is a service that you can use to generate feeds for your website or blog so that other can keep updated on your postes. 40. Copy the link. 41. Open your Netvibes account if you closed it from the previous exercise. 42. Click on Add Content. 43. Click on Add a Feed (orange link with the RSS icon on the left side of your screen. 44. Paste the URL into the feed box. 45. Click on Add Feed. 46. It will generate a feed. Click and drag the feed icon to the position on your start page.

9 Adding a Page to Your Reader 47. To add another page to your reader, click on New Tab after the last tab. 48. Type in the name you want in the text box. 49. Click Edit to set up the page (see next section). 50. Choose the number of columns you would like (i.e. 1-4). 51. Choose the layout you would like, indicated by the boxes. 52. NOTE: To change the layout of your page after you set it up, click on the icon for that page. You can then rename the tab by typing any name you want in the text box with the current tab name. You can also change the icon that represents each tab by clicking on the icon next to the tab name and choosing another one from the list. 53. After you make your changes, click the icon for the tab to save your changes and go back to your page. 54. You can also delete a page by clicking on the Delete this tab button on the right.
