4 4 Preface Before You Begin 1 Selecting a Version SoftBank Wireless Assistant Personal Edition is available in the following two versions. Select an appropriate version according to the circumstances in which you will use the product. Users who have a PC which is constantly connected to a network should install the Personal Edition Desktop Assistant Client on their PC. , calendar, contacts and work information (not available on some versions) will be synchronized for the profile set up on the Desktop Assistant Client. Synchronization will only be performed while the PC and Desktop Assistant Client are running and connected to the network. Configure the Personal Edition according to the following procedure. Chapter 1 [SoftBank Wireless Assistant Registration Chapter 2 [Configuring the Personal Edition] Chapter 4 [Mobile Phone Configuration] Users who do not have a PC which is constantly connected to a network should install Personal Edition ISP Version. Connection information for the ISP mail server to be synchronized must be registered. The ISP Version does not synchronize calendar, contacts or work information. Configure the ISP Version according to the following procedure. Chapter 1 [SoftBank Wireless Assistant Registration Chapter 3 [Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Version] Chapter 4 [Mobile Phone Configuration]
5 5 2 Desktop Assistant Client Requirements The computer on which the Desktop Assistant Client will be used must meet the following requirements. Memory: 64 MB of memory or greater HDD Space: Minimum 32 MB Internet: Constant Connection OS: The PC must connect to the internet when the power is turned on, however the client does not have to run at this time. Do not configure energy saving features on the computer. Setting these features may cause the power to be turned off. Single User Access: Windows XP Multi-user Access (Delegated connections): Windows XP Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later Netscape 4.7, 6.1, 6.2 (Desktop Assistant can be used with Netscape, however Internet Explorer must still be installed.) Groupware: Microsoft Outlook 2003 SP1 IBM Lotus Notes You must have local Administrator privileges on your PC to install the Desktop Assistant on it. If you do not have Administrator privileges, ask your System Administrator to add these privileges to your PC account. Preface Before You Begin
6 6 Chapter 1 SoftBank Wireless Assistant Registration 1 Registering SoftBank Wireless Assistant Register by accessing the SoftBank Wireless Assistant mobile phone site through the Yahoo! Mobile main menu, and then following the procedure below. 1. From the [Yahoo! Mobile!] top menu, select [Menu List] > [Mail Contents] > [Mail Applications] > [SoftBank Wireless Assistant] on your mobile phone. Figure 1-1 Figure 1-1 SoftBank Wireless Assistant Site 2. At first, the site is displayed in Japanese for all customers. If you wish to view the site in English, please click the "English" at the bottom of this page. Select [Register Now] to begin registration. Figure 1-2 Select the [ ] link to switch to the Japanese page. 3. Continue to the Terms and Conditions page. 4. Select [Read], to continue to the terms and conditions page. Select [Agree] after confirming all the terms and conditions. Figure 1-2 Registering the SoftBank Wireless Assistant
7 7 Figure 1-3 Purchasing the Service 5. On the Fee (My Menu) registration screen, select OK to purchase the SoftBank Wireless Assistant. Figure Be sure to click [Next] on the Member Registration Complete Screen. Be sure to click [Next] on the Member Registration Complete Screen. Once Content Registration is completed, content fees will be charged. Chapter 1 SoftBank Wireless Assistant Registration 2 SoftBank Wireless Assistant User Account Registration Access the SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC browser interface and after accepting the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Terms and Conditions, carry out SoftBank Wireless Assistant user account registration according to onscreen instructions Figure Figure Set the Password. This password will be required each time you use the SoftBank Wireless Assistant so make sure to make note of it. Figure 1-4 Figure 1-4 Password Settings
8 8 8. Once you have arrived at this screen, the SoftBank Wireless Assistant account registration is complete. Figure Next we will configure mailbox settings. Select Exchange or Domino based on your usage conditions. Enter the address you wish to synchronize. Continue to Chapter 3 [Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Version if using the ISP Version. Figure 1-5 Registration Complete Screen Exchange or Domino settings can also be performed from your mobile phone. Select Exchange or Domino based on your usage conditions. 10. Check the Welcome that is sent to the E- mail address you entered. Leave the mobile phone on this screen while you check the . Figure 1-6 Figure 1-6 Welcome Sent
9 9 Chapter 2 Configuring the Personal Edition Chapter 2 Next use the SoftBank Wireless Assist account you have registered to access the SoftBank Wireless Assist PC browser interface via the internet from your PC and download, install and configure the PC application (Desktop Assistant Client). 1 Accessing and Logging into the SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC Browser Interface 1. Access the interface from Internet Explorer on your PC according to the [Install the Desktop Assistant] section in the Welcome Figure 2-1 or access the following URL. URL When directly accessing the site, enter your mobile phone number and the password you set and click [Log In]. Figure 2-2 Configuring the Personal Edition Figure 2-1 Welcome
10 10 Figure 2-2 Accessing the SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC Browser Interface 2 Downloading and Installing the Desktop Assistant Client Download the Desktop Assistant Client from the SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC browser interface and install it on your PC. Have the information for the profile you want to synchronize ready before hand. 1. Once you login you will be taken to the [Setup Wizard Company] screen for configuring the Desktop Assistant Client. 2. Read the download instructions and select Download Now. Figure 2-3 Make sure to select [Save(S)] at this point, and do not delete the downloaded installer (It will be used when uninstalling the Desktop Assistant Client)
11 11 Configuring the Personal Edition Chapter 2 Figure 2-3 Top Page after Login 3. Once the download is complete, select Save the program to disk to save the installer. 4. Run the Installer. 5. Read the terms of use and click [Yes]. 6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 7. Select Lotus Notes or Microsoft Outlook depending on which you use and click [Next] (Figure 2-4). Figure 2-4 Application Selection
12 12 8. Select the installation destination and click [Next] (Figure 2-5). Figure 2-5 Specifying the Installation Destination Figure 2-6 Install Complete This completes the Desktop Assistant Client installation. 3 Configuring the Desktop Assistant The Desktop Assistant Client setup will start automatically once installation is complete Figure Enter your mobile phone number and the password you set in Chapter 1 2 "SoftBank Wireless Assistant User Account Registration" and click [Next] to continue. You will be taken to the configuration screen for the account to be synchronized with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant application (Figure 2-7) Figure 2-7 Desktop Assistant Client Setup
13 13 2. Enter the profile to be synchronized and that profiles authentication information. Figure 2-8 If the information is already filled in, confirm that it is correct before continuing. Chapter 2 Configuring the Personal Edition Figure 2-8 Profile Setup 3. Select Account Setup and then Next and the Desktop Assistant Client will begin to communicate with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server. If communication is successful, Desktop Assistant Client setup is complete. 4. This completes the Desktop Assistant Client setup. Return to your mobile phone and click Next. 14 14 4 Configuring the MobileSyncManager Configuring the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Program downloaded to your mobile phone. First, select [Mobile SyncManager] from the menu on the left side of SoftBank Wireless Assistant PC browser interface website. 1. Check that the timezone is set to [Japan Standard Time] and click [Next]. (Figure 2-10) Figure 2-10 Select a Timezone Screen 2. Check that the account to be synchronized with SoftBank Wireless Assistant is displayed. (Figure 2-11) This completes setup on the PC. Figure 2-11 Register Mailbox
15 15 Chapter 3 Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Version 1 Accessing and Logging into the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Mobile Phone Browser Interface The ISP Version periodically checks mail that has arrived at the ISP mail server and allows it to be sent to your mobile phone. This section explains IXP mailbox setup. Have the information for the ISP account you will use ready. 1.1 Configuring the ISP Mailbox Chapter 3 Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Version 1. Select Internet [POP/IMAP] to add an ISP mail account. (Figure 3-1) Figure 3-1 Mailbox Setup Screen 2. Enter the Address and Password for the ISP you wish to use. You can also set a Display Name to distinguish between different registered mailboxes. (Figure 3-2) The mail server and account information you entered will now be authenticated. This may take a few minutes. Figure 3-2 Adding Account Information
16 16 3. Configuration is complete when the Mailbox Successfully Created screen is displayed. (Figure 3-3) Figure 3-3 Setup Complete Automatic configuration cannot be completed for some ISPs. If this occurs, manually configure the mail box according to 1.2 [If ISP Cannot be Automatically Configured. 4. If you wish to add another ISP mailbox, select Yes, to quit configuration, select No. 5. You will be returned to the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Home page. Check that your inbox is displayed. (Figure 3-4) Figure 3-4 Added Mailbox
17 If ISP Cannot be Automatically Configured Automatic configuration cannot be completed for some ISPs. If this occurs you will need to manually enter the ISP mail server information. Chapter 3 Figure 3-5 Mail Server Registration 1. The previously entered Login and Password information will be displayed. Enter the ISP POP mail server information in the Server field. (Figure 3-5) 2. You can also set a Display Name to distinguish between different registered mailboxes. 3. Configuration is complete when the Mailbox Successfully Created screen is displayed. If you wish to add another ISP mailbox, select Yes, to quit configuration, select No. (Figure 3-6) Configuring the Personal Edition ISP Version Figure 3-6 Setup Complete 4. You will be returned to the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Home page. Check that the inbox you registered is displayed.(figure 3-7) Figure 3-7 Confirming the Inbox This completes ISP mailbox configuration.
18 18 Chapter 4 Mobile Phone Configuration Download and install the [Mobile Sync Manager] synchronization application on your mobile phone once settings are completed on the PC to complete the SoftBank Wireless Assistant installation. 1 Mobile Sync Manager Installation Once mailbox registration is complete, SoftBank Wireless Assistant account configuration is also complete. Connect to the internet with your mobile phone and download the Mobile Sync Manager. 1. Select [Get Software] to continue. (Figure 4-1) 2. From this point on, download and install the application according to the onscreen directions. 3. Please thoroughly review the terms of use when they are displayed part way through the installation process. 4. Installation will begin once you agree to the terms of use. 19 19 2 Mobile Sync Manager Account Setup *Procedures hereafter differ according to mobile phone model. Continue after confirming your mobile phone model. Chapter For <804NK/NOKIA N71><705NK/NOKIA N73> Users 1. The application will start automatically. Figure 4-2 Mobile Phone Configuration Figure 4-2 Application Starting 2. Enter your mobile phone number. Next enter the Password you set during registration. Figure After selecting [Next], select reset for existing mailboxes, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone. Figure 4-3 Mobile Phone Number Input Cleanup deletes existing mail, contacts and schedule data saved on the mobile phone after they are backed up to a PC when [Reset] is pressed, in order to prevent existing data from overlapping with data which will be downloaded to the mobile phone via SoftBank Wireless Assistant synchronization. Make absolutely sure to backup any data which may need to be saved beforehand. If [Cancel] is selected, the mail, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone will not be altered in anyway. However, in the event that the data on the mobile phone and the PC overlap, two copies of the same data will end up on the mobile phone.
20 20 4. Data will be reset when cleanup is performed. Figure 4-4 Backup Confirmation Screen 5. This completes the Mobile Sync Manager setup. The application will automatically attempt to communicate with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server. Connection status can be confirmed on-screen. The first time synchronization is performed, only the newest 50 messages will be downloaded, remaining messages will be downloaded in order each time thereafter. 2.2 For <702NK /NOKIA6680> Users 1. The application will start automatically. 2. Enter your mobile phone number and the password you set during registration then select [Finish]. 3. After selecting [Finish], select reset for existing mailboxes, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone.(not for ISP version) Cleanup deletes existing mail, contacts and schedule data saved on the mobile phone after they are backed up to a PC when [Reset] is pressed, in order to prevent existing data from overlapping with data which will be downloaded to the mobile phone via SoftBank Wireless Assistant synchronization. Make absolutely sure to backup any data which may need to be saved beforehand. If [Cancel] is selected, the mail, contacts and schedule data on the mobile phone will not be altered in anyway. 21 21 4. If communication is successful (Figure 4-5), click right on the directional key to open the mailbox settings screen. The application will automatically attempt to communicate with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server after you have selected whether or not to reset the device data. Mobile Phone Configuration 2.3 For <S!Application> Users 1. The application will start automatically. The [Confirm Connection] screen will be displayed. Select Yes to display the [Send Packet?] screen, and select [Yes] again to begin active processing. 4. Next the [Download Update?] screen will be displayed. Select Yes here as well to begin communication with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server. 5. You will be taken to the Folders screen. If the connection status mark is shown in the upper right of the screen then synchronization is being executed correctly. If communication with the SoftBank Wireless Assistant server is successful, the [Connected] mark indicating that communication is in progress will be displayed.(figure 4-8)
22 22 Chapter 5 Uninstalling the SoftBank Wireless Assistant 1 Uninstalling the Desktop Assistant Client from Your PC Uninstall using the Windows [Add or Remove Programs] feature or by running the Desktop Assistant Client installer you downloaded via the PC browser interface and following the onscreen instructions. 2 Mobile Sync Manger Uninstallation In the event that you will no longer use the Mobile Sync Manager or will change mobile phones, uninstall the application using the following procedure. 2.1 For <804NK/NOKIA N71> <705NK/NOKIA N73> Users 1. Select Menu > Entertainment. 2. Select [SoftBank Wireless Assistant]. 3. Select Options > Delete, and select Yes on the delete confirmation screen to uninstall. 2.2 For <702NK /NOKIA6680> Users 1. Select Menu > Tools > Applications. 2. Select SoftBank Wireless Assistant. 3. Select Options > Delete, and select Yes on the delete confirmation screen to uninstall. 2.3 For <S!Application> Users 1. Select [Menu] > [S!Application (VApplication)](or [Entertainment] > [ S!Application (VApplication)]) > [ S!Application Library (VApplication Library)]. * There may be some differences depending on your mobile phone model. 2. If Mobile Sync Manager is running, close it. 3. Select [SoftBank Wireless Assistant]. 4. Select [Menu] > [Delete], and select [Yes] on the delete confirmation screen to uninstall.
23 23 Chapter 6 Cancellation Chapter 6 1 Cancelling SoftBank Wireless Assistant Cancelling SoftBank Wireless Assistant registration. 4. Access the SoftBank Wireless Assistant website by selecting [My Menu] > [SoftBank Wireless Assistant] from Yahoo! Wireless!Yahoo!. Cancellation 5. 24 24 Chapter 7 FAQ 1 Frequently Asked Questions Frequently asked questions regarding the SoftBank Wireless Assistant are noted below. Please check the following information if you have any questions or problems during use. 1.1 Setup Trouble Problem Where do I download the mobile phone application? Solution The MobileSyncManager can be downloaded after connecting to the SoftBank Wireless Assistant login page and entering your mobile phone number and password, then clicking the MobileSyncManager link on the page displayed after login. Connect to the login page using one of the two methods below. 1. Enter 2. From the menu select [Menu List] > [Mail Contents] > [Mail Application] > [SoftBank Wireless Assistant] After setting the "Mobile Phone Number" and "Password", I receive a "400 Activation Error" and am unable to proceed. After setting the "Mobile Phone Number" and "Password", I receive a "401 Activation Error" and am unable to proceed. After setting the "Mobile Phone Number" and "Password", I receive a "403 Activation Error" and am unable to proceed. Try the following 2 solutions. 1. Restart your mobile phone and try again. 2. If you enter a mistaken ID or Password 3 times, you account is temporarily locked. Wait 30 minutes and try again with the correct ID and Password. This is an authentication error. It is possible you have entered the wrong ID or Password. Check your information and try again with the correct ID and Password. It is possible that the connection made to download the SoftBank Wireless Assistant application is still active. If the bidirectional arrow underneath the 3G mark is displayed, it means that the mobile phone is communicating. Press and hold the end conversation key for a few moments, and then end your Internet session and you should be able to continue setup. Try again after checking the above.
25 25 After installing the Desktop Assistant Client, the following message is displayed and I am unable to continue setup. "The existing mail client is not configured correctly, or the mail client is unable to receive mail at the present time. Start Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client." What is the maximum number of messages for initial mail synchronization? My contacts are registered twice. This message appears when Outlook is not the default mail client. On the [Programs] tab in Internet Options (IE Properties) set the option to [Microsoft Outlook]. 50 mail messages will be synchronized during initial synchronization. When using the Symbian version, if the same contacts are saved on both the mobile phone and the PC, they are registered twice. This can be avoided by selecting Reset on the Cleanup screen during installation in order to delete the mobile phone contacts, at then synchronizing the contacts from Outlook/Notes. Contacts can only be synchronized for Notes when using the Personal Edition (PC version). Chapter 7 FAQ 1.2 Trouble During Use Problem Can I make voice calls and run other applications while SoftBank Wireless Assistant is running? synchronization stops during use. Is there a limit to the number of characters that can be sent or received in mail? Can the number of mail messages to receive be set on the mobile phone? Solution Yes, because SoftBank Wireless Assistant runs in the background. Periodically an information recovery synchronization (Repair Sync) is run. Wait for this to run and see if it fixes the problem. Or, for customers using the Desktop Assistant Client, check to see if the PC is logged in. Using the Desktop Assistant Client to synchronize from a computer locks the account, however if the computer goes into standby or sleep mode, or is turned off during synchronization the synchronization process may stop. Symbian Version: Automatic reception stops at 2KB, however if you select to receive more, this version can be used with no limits. However, data cannot be saved if it exceeds the mobile phone's memory limit. Symbian Version: Yes The setting can be made from [Menu] > [SoftBank Wireless Assistant] > [Inbox Message Limit].The value can be set from 10 to unlimited (1000 messages for the 804NK/705NK).Configure according to your situation.
26 26 When forwarding mail from my mobile phone, the quoted text isn't displayed. How many days are synchronized for the calendar? The calendar time is different than that of the PC. When I add an address from my mobile phone, the address is registered as 3 Can the mobile phone language setting be changed to English? Can the global address list be viewed from a mobile phone? I want to maintain my mobile phone and PC contacts separately. I do not want to synchronize. Quoted text isn't displayed while editing a message on the mobile phone. Quoted text is sent to the recipient as normal. Quoted text is also not included in the mobile phone sent items folder. From two weeks past to 3 months ahead can be synchronized. It is possible that the time zone is not set to Japan Time. Set the time zone from the PC browser interface. This is in accordance with SoftBank Wireless Assistant specifications. Up to 3 address can be set for each contact, however only one address can be synchronized on a mobile phone. Set the address you wish to use from your mobile phone as " Address 1" because SoftBank Wireless Assistant sets addresses in the 1-3 order shown on the SoftBank Wireless Assistant Site. Yes. Set the mobile phone language to English from [Menu] > [Tools] > [Settings] > [Mobile Handset] > [General]. The global address list cannot be used from the application. It can be viewed from the mobile phone browser. However, customers who use the 804NK/705NK can use the global address list from the application. Synchronization can be stopped by ending the SoftBank Wireless Assistant application. It is recommended that you keep a backup of previous contacts in this event.
27 Other Problem Can the SoftBank Wireless Assistant application be moved to an MMC (Multi Media Card)? Is there a limit to the number or type of characters that can be used when resetting the password on the SoftBank Wireless Assistant site? Is there an English version of the SoftBank Wireless Assistant site? Solution The application cannot be moved to an MMC or SD card (memory card). Between 6 and 25 half-width (single byte) alpha-numeric characters and symbols can be used. Capital and lowercase letters are differentiated. You can switch to the English version site by either clicking the "English" link on each of the SoftBank Wireless Assistant sites, or by replacing the "/ja_jp" with "en_us" in the URL. Chapter 7 FAQ
