3 0 BlackBerry Internet Service for new users 1 Getting started Insert the SIM card. Insert the battery (the smartphone should power-up automatically). For activating GPRS/3G network: Select the Manage Connections icon from the main menu and tick the Mobile Network checkbox. The 3G/GPRS sign will appear on the screen (top right-hand corner). Select the Turn Wireless On icon and the GPRS sign will appear in the top right-hand corner of the screen. For activating Wi-Fi: Select the Manage Connections icon from the main menu and tick the Wi-Fi checkbox. The Wi-Fi sign will appear on the screen (top right-hand corner). Note: A detailed BlackBerry smartphone user guide can be downloaded from All new BlackBerry Internet Service users will get BlackBerry Internet Service once activated. Now you can make use of your BlackBerry smartphone for creating new accounts or managing settings. 2

4 2 Set up your account via smartphone 2. Click Setup. Click Settings Choose the ISP of your account. Enter the address and Password, click Next For some accounts, you can choose to sync the contacts in your account with your phone (optional). e.g. Google contacts in Gmail accounts Setup is done and you will see the icon appears on the Home screen. 3

5 3 Set up your account via website on your PC Go to and click Create New Account. 2. Read the Legal Terms and Conditions and click I Agree. 4

6 3. Enter Device PIN and Device IMEI. Click Continue. 4. Create a User name and Password. Click Next. 5

7 5. Enter the address and password. Click Next. 6. Follow the instructions to complete the account integration process. 6

8 4 How to associate a Microsoft Outlook Web Access account with a BlackBerry Internet Service account To associate a Microsoft Outlook Web Access account, take the following steps: Go to PCCW s BlackBerry Internet Service website and login to your BlackBerry Internet Service account. 2. Click Set Up button. 3. Choose Add an existing account, enter address, password and click Next. 7

9 4. Click the provide additional settings link. 5. Choose Microsoft Exchange. Input the required fi elds and click Next. 8

10 6. If the account has been properly confi gured, you will see the following message. Click Finish. The Microsoft Outlook Web Access account should appear in your list of integrated accounts. Note: The Mailbox name fi eld refers to your mailbox name. To determine your mailbox name, log into the Microsoft Outlook Web Access account and pause at the inbox folder in the top left-hand corner. 11 2.0 Shortcut Keys 2.1 Keypad overview Every BlackBerry handset is equipped with a Full-QWERTY or Semi-QWERTY keypad. Besides general word input, different combination of keypad can be used as shortcut to ease operation. The numbers of keypad are different in two settings. In Full-QWERTY keypad, every alphabet has its individual key in addition to Alt, Shift, Sym and altogether 35 function keys. Input method is similar to those on a computer. In Semi-QWERTY keypad, the numbers of keypad are relatively less. There re only 20 keys where every two alphabets share one key. The input method is different from Full-QWERTY keypad. Word input is done with a unique SureType method. Note: SureType does not support Chinese character input. Full-QWERTY Keypad Menu Trackpad Back Send/Call End call/power off QWERTY keypad Delete Alt Left Shift Enter Right Shift Special symbol Special Keys Hold Alt to key in relative numbers and symbols on keypad. To capitalize English, hold Shift and key in alphabet. Use Sym to display more symbols. There re two interfaces in general. E.g. there ll be more emoticons or smileys to choose from in Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger. 10

12 2.2 Change program If you want to switch between a currently using application to another application, you can press Alt + Back, release Back hold Alt and you ll see an application switch window where you can select application to switch using Trackpad. Simply release Alt to switch Change input language You can install multiple input methods with BlackBerry, e.g. Cangjie, Jyutping or even Japanese, Korean input method. System default shortcut key for input method switch is Alt + Enter

13 2.4 Zoom in/out BlackBerry smartphone also provides zoom in /zoom out function. Simply press I to Zoom In and press O to Zoom Out. It applies to BlackBerry Maps and browser. Chinese system does not support the above mentioned shortcut functions on browser. When you press I, O on browser, you can zoom in or out website. 2. Zoom out. 3. Zoom in. 2.5 Mute If you don t want the dialogue between you and the surroundings to be heard during a phone conversation, press Mute on top of the handset to activate mute mode

14 2.6 Lock key Press Lock key on top of the handset to activate and deactivate keypad lock. Under normal circumstances, press and hold to activate keypad lock on BlackBerry smartphone. * To deactivate, press * and simultaneously. Lock sign will disappear

15 2.7 Speakerphone If you need to use speakerphone function in any occasion, you may press during conversation, and press again to deactivate. to activate speaker 2. 14

16 3.0 BlackBerry Desktop Manager BlackBerry Desktop Manager software is included in the CD inside BlackBerry smartphone package, or can be downloaded from Desktop Manager overview Manage the songs and multimedia fi les Change and transfer data between BlackBerry handsets Makes BlackBerry as IP modem Backup and restore data 3.2 System requirements Intel compatible 486 or higher computer that is compliant with USB 1 or higher and has an available USB port. 17 4.0 How to use BlackBerry Internet Service 4.1 Delete address Select Setup. 2. Select Settings Scroll to the address you want to delete. Click Menu Delete. Click Yes to confi rm. 4.2 Send service books Service books determine which services are available on your BlackBerry smartphone. If you switch devices or your BlackBerry smartphone is not functioning properly, send the service books to your BlackBerry smartphone. 2. Click Setup Settings. Click Menu Service Books Send Service Books. 16

18 4.3 Change an address or password If you change the address or password for an address that you have added, you must update BlackBerry Internet Service. 2. Click Setup Settings. Scroll to the address you want to delete Click Menu Edit. Click Yes to confi rm. Scroll to the Login Information section and enter the new Password. Click Save. 4.4 Set reply-to address 2. Click Setup Settings. Scroll to the address you want to delete. 3. Click Menu Edit. 4. Scroll to the Delivery Options section and enter the Reply to address. Click Save. 17

19 4.5 About auto signatures Click Setup Settings. 2. Scroll to the address you want to delete. 3. Click Menu Edit. 4. Enter the Signature in the General Options section. Click Save. 18

20 4.6 Create an filter 2. Click Setup Settings. Scroll to the address you want to delete. 3. Click Menu Filters. 4. Click Add Filter. 5. Enter Filter name and defi ne the fi ltering rules. Click Save. 19

21 4.7 Changing BlackBerry handsets For the existing PCCW BlackBerry users, you may change to another BlackBerry smartphone by using the same SIM card. Simply follow the steps below. 2. After inserting the SIM card, click Setup. Click Settings Enter User name and Password of your BIS account, click Log In. Click Move to move your BIS account to the new device. 5. Click OK. Device is changed successfully but address is not yet validated. Click Close. 6. Enter settings again by clicking Setup and then Settings from the main menu. Choose Validate Enter the password. Click Next. For some accounts, choose Synchronize if you want to synchronize Contacts e.g. Google contacts in Gmail accounts. 20

22 Device changed and account validation completed. Click Close to complete. Change device is done and you will see an icon appears on the Home screen. Note: Remember to wipe the data in your old device before transferring to another one. 21

23 4.8 Wipe smartphones You may remove all data and application in your BlackBerry smartphone with the following procedures: 2. Click Options. Click Security Options. 3. Click Security Wipe. 4. Tick the items you want to wipe. 5. Enter blackberry and click Wipe to confi rm wipe. Note: All data and applications will be removed once confi rmed to wipe the handset. 22

24 4.9 Set up Wi-Fi connection You may connect to any WiFi network available using the set up procedure below. Click Manage Connections. 2. Check the Wi-Fi checkbox to turn on Wi-Fi service. 3. Click Set Up Wi-Fi Network. 4. Click Scan For Networks. 5. Click on the Wi-Fi network you want to access. PCCW Wi-Fi hotspot: you can auto-connect to a PCCW Wi-Fi hotspot in over 7000 locations by turning on the Wi-Fi connection. The profi le name PCCW Wi-Fi will appear at the top of the home screen when connection is established. If you need to manually add this profi le, please select SSID = PCCW1x, Security Type = EAP-SIM, Connection Mode = Automatic. 23

25 Complete other steps according to your Wi-Fi network s confi guration e.g. For WPA enabled Wi-Fi network, you need to enter the Pre-Shared Key. 6. Click Cancel. 7. Enter the Pre-Shared Key,then click Connect. 8. Click Next. 9. Click Finish. 24

26 4.10 Roaming manual network search If you cannot connect to a mobile network while roaming, you can try the roaming manual network seach by the following steps: Click Options. 2. Click Mobile Network. 3. Choose Manual in Network Selection Mode. 4. Network scanning starts. Choose the network from the Available Networks list. 25

27 4.11 Disable roaming data service If you want to avoid roaming data charges in overseas, you can disable roaming data service with the following procedures. Click Options. 2. Click Mobile Network. 3. You can disable roaming data services by choosing Off in While Roaming. 26

28 4.12 About storage Receiving is not subject to quota limits. BlackBerry Internet Service messages are available for 30 days About wireless reconciliation The following table outlines some of the accounts that can be integrated with the BlackBerry Internet Service, and the reconciliation features that are available with each account type. Yahoo! Mail and Google Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, and AOL accounts allow for real-time delivery of messages to BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers. accounts that are not hosted by these organizations are polled for new messages every 15 minutes. 29 4.14 Native attachment download support The advantage of view attachment VS download attachment. View attachment: The fi le will be compressed before opening and fi le size will be smaller. The fi le cannot be edited. It is good for customer who is in roaming. It helps to avoid high roaming data usage. Download attachment: The full size of attachment will be downloaded. The fi le can be edited. It will consume more data usage. View attachment To view attachment, highlight the attachment icon and click Open Attachment from the menu. 2. Click View. Download attachment To download attachment, highlight the attachment icon and click Download Attachment from the menu. 2. Acknowledge the large fi le reminder message. 3. Choose the download location. 4. Click to open the fi le. 28

30 4.15 Download applications from BlackBerry App World Click BlackBerry App World. 2. Click Search. 3. Enter the search term. 4. Click on the application you want to download. 5. Click Download. 6. Click OK to complete the installation. 29

31 After downloaded, you can move the application icon from the Downloads folder to Home for easy usage. 7. Exit BlackBerry App World and go to the Downloads folder. 8. Move the cursor to the application. Click the button and choose Move To Folder. 9. Choose Home, then the application will be moved to the Home screen. 30

32 5.0 Using BlackBerry smartphone as external modem While you are on the move, BlackBerry Bold can become a plug-and-play modem operating up to HSPA speeds (download speed up to 3.6Mbps). You can simply install BlackBerry Desktop Manager on your PC/notebook and connect BlackBerry smartphone using a USB cable (usage is charged at GPRS data rates). Please refer to section 3.0 before you start this section. Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager (Version or above) Select IP Modem from the main menu of BlackBerry Desktop Manager. 2. Select Confi gure in Connection Settings. 31

33 3. Select PCCW in Connection Profi le and click OK. 4. Select Connect in Connect to the Internet. 32

34 5. Confi rm the prompt about the possible data charges. Remarks: It will consume GPRS usage and bill as thereafter charge. 6. Modem connection is made. Click Disconnect to end the modem session. 33

35 6.0 Firmware upgrade You can update BlackBerry smartphone operating system via fi rmware upgrade, which also performs a bug fi x based on previous versions and enhances system functionality. Before upgrading the fi rmware, please backup the handset data and if needed. There are 2 methods to backup handset data and . Refer to Section 3.1, Backup and Restore. Or you can choose to proceed fi rmware upgrade, a message will prompt and ask if you would choose to backup the handset data and . Before proceeding upgrade, you can check the handset software version on your smartphone. Check handset software version Click Options. 2. Click About. 3. Check the handset software version. Scroll down and click Download. e Exit the WAP Browser and go to the Downloads folder. f Move the cursor to PCCW mobile TIPs, click the button and choose Move To Folder. g Choose Home. h The PCCW mobile TIPs application will be moved to the Home screen. 35
