Chapter 1. IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Operator Client user interface overview IBM Intelligent Video Analytics is a web-based solution for analyzing near real-time and recorded video streams of monitored environments. You can use the video analysis capabilities of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics to process, store, and respond to video data much faster and more efficiently. The IBM Smart Vision Suite of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics provides an open and extensible analytic framework for developing event-based video surveillance applications. IBM Smart Vision Suite automatically generates and processes event metadata to provide the following features and benefits: v Invaluable real-time information about an incident in progress to law enforcement or first responders. v Integration with the existing cameras and network infrastructure of monitored environments. v Real-time security alerts for predefined behaviors of people, vehicles, and objects. v Processes millions of events to create an index that correlates your search query results in seconds. v Indexes a wide variety of attributes about every event. v Uses the same video feed for multiple applications. v Supports customized dynamic behavior analysis that is based on user-defined criteria or new threat models. The analytic framework of the IBM Smart Vision Suite consists of the following major software components: v Middleware for Large Scale Surveillance (MILS) v Smart Surveillance Engine (SSE) v IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Operator Client user interface v IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Administrator Client user interface Middleware for Large Scale Surveillance The Middleware for Large Scale Surveillance component is responsible for ingesting metadata that is generated by the Smart Surveillance Engine. The MILS component provides consolidated back-end data management capabilities and stores event metadata that describes the key activities that are discovered during the ingestion of video data. Smart Surveillance Engine The Smart Surveillance Engine servers are designed to process streams of live or recorded video footage, extracting metadata information about the activities that occur in a camera's field of view and then forwarding that metadata to MILS for storage and indexing. The SSE servers are also responsible for analyzing event metadata and evaluating user-defined alerts. Behind the scenes, every camera channel in the IBM Smart Vision Suite environment is assigned to an analytic engine that is running on a Smart Surveillance Engine server. A single SSE server can support multiple camera channels, and depending on the size and requirements of your organization, an IBM Smart Vision Suite environment can have multiple SSE servers to handle the workload. Your system administrator installs and configures the back-end components that make up the IBM Smart Vision Suite of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics. Copyright IBM Corp. 2013,

IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Operator Client user interface The IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Operator Client user interface is the main dashboard for analyzing video content and receiving real-time alerts about specific events and incidents. Your system administrator configures the IBM Smart Vision Suite environment so that you are able to access source video content and carry out the real-time or historical video surveillance that is required. Use the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Operator Client user interface to perform forensic analysis on video content to identify specific events, attributes, or patterns of behavior. You can also use IBM Intelligent Video Analytics to set up real-time security alerts that automatically notify you about specific events or incidents. Product documentation This document is intended for people who are using the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Operator Client user interface. For more product documentation, including information about the underlying product architecture, and how to deploy, configure, and manage the solution, see the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics publications library at: Key concepts of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Before you start to use the Operator Client user interface of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics, familiarize yourself with the key concepts of the solution. This helps you to understand how the solution works and integrates with the underlying architecture. Events An event is an activity of interest that takes place within the field of view of a video camera. Events are automatically detected and captured by the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics IBM Smart Vision Suite software. Event data is generated by the Smart Surveillance Engine and then stored in the Middleware for Large Scale Surveillance (MILS) database of the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics solution. Your system administrator determines the type of video analytics, such as face recognition or abandoned objects, that are run against the video stream. The available alerting functions and search criteria that display in the Operator Client user interface depend on the analytic profile that your system administrator assigned to the selected channel. Channel calibration also impacts the available search criteria that you can select when you submit a query. If you are unable to see the analytic search attributes that you require in the query form, notify your system administrator. The analytic profile that is assigned to the channel might need to be configured. Alternatively, the channel might need to be calibrated. Event and alert metadata Each event or alert is composed of multiple metadata messages that contain various attributes about a detected change or motion segment in a video feed. The event and alert metadata that the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics analytic engine generates is determined by its configuration at the time that it is generated. Once the metadata is generated it does not change. 2 Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

Your system administrator also determines the granularity of the event metadata that is captured and retained. The more moving objects that there are in the field of vision, the more event metadata is stored in the MILS system database for the selected channel. Alerts The Smart Surveillance Engine supports basic video alerts and compound metadata-based alerts. An alert is a real-time event, which the IBM Smart Vision Suite SSE is pre-configured to watch for in a specific video channel stream. IBM Intelligent Video Analytics automatically alerts you in the Operator Client user interface when the alerting event occurs. Your system administrator predefines and configures alerts for the system. You can also submit a query for alerts that you are interested in. For a list of the alert types that are supported and available in IBM Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5, see Chapter 4, Real-time alert queue, on page 33. Cameras IBM Intelligent Video Analytics uses the video cameras and devices that are in the monitored environment. IBM Intelligent Video Analytics captures video data directly from the Video Management System (VMS) or devices that the solution is integrated with. Each camera in the monitored environment is identified by a unique Camera ID. Your system administrator determines what cameras are available in the system. Channels A channel is a defined view of a camera that is identified by its uniquely assigned channel ID. A single camera can have multiple channels that are created for it. Each channel is assigned an analytic profile, which determines the data that is captured from the source stream and also the algorithms and analytics that generate the event or alert metadata. The channels that display in the Operator Client user interface are configured and managed by your system administrator. Your system administrator also determines who can access each channel. Note: Channels are synonymous with views, and are sometimes referred to as views in the product documentation of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics. Channels are also configured from the Views tab in the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Administration Client interface. Channel groups A channel group is a collection of channels, and is typically created for geographic areas, such as building floors, small sections of a city or region. You can use groups to limit or filter the channels that you can access in the Operator Client user interface. For large deployments, the channel groups feature helps you to find the channel that you would like to work with. Your system administrator sets up and configures the channel groups from the Administration Client and can define as many channel groups as required. This is a useful feature if your system contains many cameras and channels. If you frequently analyze video data from several different channels, ask your system administrator to set up a channel group that contains the channels. Web browser requirements and settings Before you attempt to log on to the Operator Client user interface and start to use the features of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics, ensure that your client web browser meets the minimum requirements. You must also configure some settings in your browser so that the Operator Client user interface works as expected. Chapter 1. Operator Client user interface overview 3

Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager From the Forensic Search Manager you can formulate search criteria and submit multiple event and alert queries on the channels that you selected to work with. The results of your event and alert queries are displayed in a logical order in the Search Results container of the Forensic Search Manager. Creating a new search From the Search Criteria container in the Forensic Search Manager, create a new event or alert search and specify the detailed search criteria for the query. You can create multiple searches in the Search Criteria container. Each search query is displayed in a separate subtab. Before you begin Select the channels that you would like to perform an alert or event query on. For more information about how to select and view channels, see Searching and filtering channels on page 11. About this task Specifying search criteria The event and alert query forms that you can complete and submit in the Search Criteria container are dependent on the channels that you have selected to view. When you select a channel, more search criteria tabs appear in the Search Criteria container next to the default General Channel Constraint tab. There is one tab for each of the analytic profiles that are associated with your channel selection. For example, if you query multiple channels that are associated with the same analytic profile, then you see one extra search criteria tab. The tab title indicates the analytic profile that the search criteria pertains to. If you query two channels that are associated with different analytic profiles, then you see two extra search criteria tabs that are specific to the analytic profile that is associated with each channel. The search criteria for your query also varies depending on whether the selected camera channels are calibrated. Calibration improves the accuracy and relevance of the search results, reducing the number of false-positives. When a channel is calibrated, there are more attributes available in the search form for you to specify in your query. Your system administrator manages the calibration of the channels that are available in the solution. Procedure 1. Go to the Forensic Search Manager. 2. In the Search Criteria container, click either New Event or New Alert. Note: When you create an alert query, include only channels that are configured to have at least one or more predefined alerts. If you submit an alert search query on a channel that does not have any automatic alerts that are configured for it, zero results are returned. Before you submit an alert query, go to the Channel Selector pane, hover over a channel to display the information window, and check to see whether any predefined alerts are configured for the channel. If the channel is configured with one or more alerts, the details of the alerts are provided in the Configured Alerts row. For more information, see Viewing more information about a channel on page Complete the following common search constraints: a. Complete the Channel Constraint form to add the channels to include in the search query, as outlined in Searching and filtering channels on page 11. Copyright IBM Corp. 2013,

b. Optional: After you add a channel to the Channel Constraint form, you can define a region of interest if the channel is associated with an analytic profile that supports this feature. For more information, see Specifying a region of interest on page 21. c. Complete the following options on the TimeFrame Constraint form: Timeframe constraint Timeframe specification Description Absolute Timeframe With Start and Stop Times Select this option to enter a precise time frame by entering a specific date and time. Relative Timeframe from current time Select this option to use a scroll bar to specify the time frame for the query weeks, days, hours, or minutes before the current time. Specifying a relative time frame is useful when you would like to run a saved search repeatedly without having to readjust the time period each time you submit the query. If you click Submit without specifying a time period, by default, your query spans the previous 4 hours from the current point in time. The default time frame is also set to the absolute timeframe option, whereby the Period Ending value is set to the current date and time stamp, and the Period Beginning value is set to exactly 4 hours before the Period Ending time. When you resubmit a query that uses the default timeframe, it preserves the absolute timeframe from the initial query. Period beginning Period ending Event Duration Page size Enter the start date and time of the period that you would like to query events for. Click the arrow to open the calendar pop-up window and select a date and time. Specify the end date and time of the period that you would like to query events for. Click the arrow to open the calendar pop-up window and select a date and time. To search for an event that is a certain length, you can specify a minimum and a maximum duration of the event, in seconds. Determines the number of key frames that are contained on each page of results that are returned. The default number of key frames is 40. If, for example, 90 key frames are returned in the result set, they are divided into three pages. The first and second pages contain 40 results and the third page contains 10 results. If you would like to override the default page size, go to the User Profile settings and modify the Page Size to suit your preference. Note: The event duration limits apply only to event searches. They do not apply to alert queries. d. In the Additional Filters section, specify whether the search must include only archived events or alerts. By default, all events and alerts that are in the system database are included in the search query. 4. Complete the Analytic Profile-specific constraints. For more information about the search criteria that is available for the supported analytic profiles, see Analytic Profile-specific constraints on page Optional: To save the query, click Save. 6. Enter a name to identify the saved query, and click Save again. 18 Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

7. When prompted, click OK. 8. To generate results for your new search query, click Submit. Results The results are displayed in the Search Results container. Note: The system will only start generating alert metadata after an alert is configured for the channel. Notify your system administrator to configure a predefined alert on a channel, if required. Also, it is important to understand that your alert query will not yield any results and metadata unless at least one alert that matches the criteria is triggered, and stored in the system. Analytic Profile-specific constraints Each channel is assigned an analytic profile, which determines algorithms and analytics that are run on the stream to produce event or alert metadata. An analytic profile instructs the Smart Surveillance Engine (SSE) to use a specific set of analytic algorithms and associated configuration, when processing the incoming video stream. When defining the Smart Surveillance Engine, your system administrator selects the most appropriate analytic profile to use. The analytic profile that is selected is based on the camera type, camera location, field of view, associated event characteristics, and required analytic use case. Several analytic profiles are provided with IBM Intelligent Video Analytics. Each profile is optimized for a different use case or scenario and includes different analytics algorithms and capabilities. When you select a channel to work with from the list of available cameras and channels, the analytic functions and search criteria that you can select in the user interface, are based on the analytic profile that is assigned to the camera through the analytic engine. The following table outlines the analytic profiles that are provided by IBM Intelligent Video Analytics by default. Table 3. Analytic Profiles that are provided by the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Smart Vision Suite Analytic profile name Description Near-Field People Search (NFPS) provides both single attribute and combined attribute search capabilities on people features. Mid-Field People Search (MFPS) provides the capability to detect and track people in a crowded environment. Mid-Field Vehicle Search (MFVS) provides better alert and search capability through improved detection of vehicles within periods of crowded activity. Outdoor Detection Enhanced Tracking (ODET) provides better alerting and searching capability through improving detection and tracking of pedestrians and vehicles within periods of crowded activity. Outdoor Tracking (OT) provides analytics that are designed for scenes, which are either outdoors or contain outdoor lighting. For example, an indoor scene that takes place near a large window or doorway, and in which the apparent size of the moving objects have a maximum dimension that is smaller than about a quarter of the image height or width. Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager 19

Table 3. Analytic Profiles that are provided by the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Smart Vision Suite (continued) Analytic profile name Description Alert-Only (AO) provides specialized analytics for optimal and fast alert detection. It supports motion detection, abandoned bag, parked car, object removal, and camera movement for either indoor or outdoor scenes. While the Alert-Only (AO) profile minimizes processor, network, and storage requirements, it also generates no event metadata. Channels that use the Alert-Only (AO) profile do not support event searches. Indoor Tracking (IT) provides analytics that are designed for scenes that are either indoors or that have constant man-made lighting. This includes scenes in which the apparent size of the moving objects have a maximum dimension that is smaller than a quarter of the image height or width. The Indoor Tracking (IT) profile does not support vehicle object or person object classification. People Counting (PC) provides analytics for use with an overhead camera view to count the number of people that pass along a specified direction. License Plate Recognition - VMS (LPRV) provides license plate recognition (LPR) alerting and event searching capabilities on video streams that are sourced from an integrated VMS system. License Plate Recognition - Device (LPRD) provides license plate recognition alerting and event searching capabilities on video sources that are from dedicated LPR cameras. When you query an event or alert for a channel that is associated with a License Plate Recognition - Device (LPRD) analytic profile, there is no live or recorded video footage available in the user interface. Railway Monitoring (RM) provides a set of specialized analytics for railway use cases. For more information about the specific event and alert search options, results, and calibration that are available with each analytic profile, see Analytic profiles that are provided by IBM Intelligent Video Analytics on page 39 in the References section. Your system administrator configures and manages the camera channels, SSE configuration and assignment, and the analytic profiles from the IBM Smart Vision Suite Administration Client. Notify your system administrator if you would like to submit alert or event search queries that are not currently available for the channels that you are analyzing. Comparing basic and advanced search capabilities To reduce the number of false-positive results, when you submit an event or alert query, you can use the advanced search capabilities. About this task For more information about the specific event and alert search options, results, and calibration that are available with each analytic profile, see Analytic profiles that are provided by IBM Intelligent Video Analytics on page 39 in the References section. 20 Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

Specifying a region of interest For some channels, you can specify a region of interest in your event search query so that the system only includes events that occur within the specified region. Defining a region helps to reduce the number of results so that they closely match the criteria that you require and also helps to reduce the number of false positives. About this task You can specify a region of interest if the selected channel uses an analytic profile that is configured to produce trajectory data. If your channel selection uses an analytic profile that does not support trajectory data, the ROI button does not display in the Channel Constraint channel list view. Procedure 1. From the Forensic Search Manager, open an existing or new search event query. 2. Go to the Channel Constraint section of the search query tab and ensure that there is at least one channel listed. 3. On the row for the channel that you would like to define a region of interest for, click the ROI button. A key frame that shows the view of the camera for this channel is displayed in a pop-up window. 4. In the channel view, click and drag to define a region of interest, as outlined in the following example key frame image. 5. Click OK. Results Only events that occur within the specified region of interested are included in the event query results. An asterisk character (*) to the right of the ROI button in the Channel Constraint list indicates that a region of interest is defined in the query for the selected channel. Note: If you submit a search query with an ROI constraint, and zero results are returned, check that your system administrator has enabled the flow of trajectory data to the MILS component of the system. Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager 21

Resizing the Forensic Search Manager In the Operator Client user interface, you can temporarily increase the size and layout of the Forensic Search Manager window by hiding the Channel Selector pane and the Event and Alert Viewer pane. This provides a wider view, from which you can see your query and results side by side, allowing you to analyze the information in more detail. Procedure Hiding the Channel Selector pane v After selecting the channels that you would like to work with, click the left pointed arrow button at the top of the Channel Selector pane. Click the right pointed arrow button Channel Selector pane again. Hiding the Event and Alert Viewer pane to reopen the v To hide the Event and Alert Viewer pane, click the right pointed arrow button at the top of the Event and Alert Viewer pane. Click the left pointed arrow button to reopen the Event and Alert Viewer pane again. v You can also expand or collapse any section by double-clicking the section header to toggle the expanded or collapsed state. Viewing event and alert query results You can view and organize the results of the event and alert searches in various different ways. The result options and layout depend on the analytic profiles that your system administrator associated with the channels that are selected for the search. Result set organization and renditions The results of your queries can be sorted by rank order or time order. The results can be displayed as thumbnails or histograms. You can select the sort order (available in advanced mode only) and the display format for your results in the results presentation panel of the search criteria selection form. Key frame collections When you select to view the results as thumbnails, by default, the search results are displayed as a grid or table of key frames. Each key frame contains a small image of an event that matches the search results and can also include a bounding box that indicates the object of interest and a track of the object's motion. Beneath each key frame, the date and time of the event is displayed. Result set paging Results sets are displayed in pages. At the top of each result set is a toolbar that indicates from left to right, the name of the channel and the total number of results. The toolbar provides the following functions: Toolbar function Use this toolbar function to... Next Page forward through the result set. Previous Page backward through the result set. Page number View the current page number and enter a page number to jump to. Page total View the total number of pages, and select a page number to jump to. 22 Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

Toolbar function Use this toolbar function to... Results view Change the display from the default grid to a film-strip view and vice versa. In a film-strip view, the key frames are laid out horizontally in a single row with an accompanying scroll-bar. Action Archive or unarchive one or more selected events from the result set. For more information about archiving, see Archiving selected result set items on page 29. Display Use to change the display to either the heatmap or trajectory map rendition summary of the result set. Note: Heatmap and trajectory maps are only supported for channels that use analytic profiles that support the capture of track data. Rank ordering result sets and result set scores When you submit an event or alert query in the Forensic Search Manager, if the channel's profile supports confidence level scoring, the results are rank ordered by default. The confidence scores of each of the selected search criteria that supports confidence levels, such as color and person search attributes, is added to produce an overall confidence score. The results are then ranked according to their overall confidence score and a colored circle is displayed in the result. The colored circle in each key frame denotes the confidence scores of the results in the Search Results container. The color indicates the relative level of confidence that the event matches the search criteria, as outlined in the following table: Result confidence icon Green circle Yellow circle Red circle Confidence level High: The individual event or alert result is evaluated by the system against the specified search criteria and achieves a confidence score of 67% and above, which is a percentage of the total possible confidence score for the selected search criteria. Medium: The individual event or alert result is evaluated by the system against the specified search criteria and achieves a confidence score of between 33-66%, which is a percentage of the total possible confidence score for the selected search criteria. Low: The individual event or alert result is evaluated by the system against the specified search criteria and achieves a confidence score that is below 33%, which is a percentage of the total possible confidence score for the selected search criteria. Your system administrator can modify the percentage ranges of the confidence scoring system that is outlined in the previous table. The criteria supporting confidence levels vary according to the analytic profile that your system administrator associated with the selected channel. You can also identify the confidence level of the detailed metadata for an event by noting the attributes that are displayed as a percentage rather than an absolute number. The results of searches that do not specify facial attributes or specific color criteria are not rank ordered by confidence score and do not display a colored circle. Instead, they are ordered in reverse chronological order. Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager 23

Reviewing result set item details In the results set that is generated from your query, when you double-click an event, a summary of metadata for the selected event is presented in the Event and Alert Viewer pane. To display the detailed metadata for the event, go to the summary data beneath the event, and then click Show detailed information for this Event. The metadata for the event is displayed in a pop-up new window. Result set summarization In the Search Results container of the Forensic Search Manager, you can retrieve a more advanced view of your query results. You can choose to view a summary of your search results on a histogram, a heatmap, track summary, or a trajectory view. Some of the result summarization views, such as the heatmap and track summary view, are only available for channels that use a specific analytic profile that supports the result display feature. Heatmaps and trajectory result summarizations are available for event searches only. Histograms and statistics The histogram view shows a bar graph that summarizes the volume of events or alerts that are returned from your submitted search query for the specified timeframe. The histogram presents the volume of events or alerts over specific time intervals during the timeframe of the search query. A separate histogram is generated for each analytic profile that is associated with the selected channels for your query and is displayed on a separate tab of the Search Results container. Viewing result totals To view the results of your query in the form of a histogram, before you submit your query, you must first specify the result display type in the specialized search criteria query form for the selected channels. By default, when you submit a query, the results are shown as thumbnails in the Search Results container of the Forensic Search Manager. To review a summary of the query results on a histogram, when you complete the Result Presentation section of the selection criteria form, set the Display field to as Histogram. The axis of the histogram is defined as follows: Axis x y Description The horizontal axis shows the total number of items that were returned in the result set for the channels associated with the given analytic profile, during the specified time period of the query. The vertical axis shows the date and time period of the result set, which is divided by specific time intervals. The timeframe that is specified in your query determines the time intervals of the histogram graph, and also the alternative time intervals, known as Bin Sizes, that you can choose for the graph. When you hover over a bar on the histogram, the result total for that specific bar is displayed on the graph. Note: The histogram result summarization view is not available for all channels. If you are querying a channel that is associated with an analytic profile that does not support histogram results, you do not see the option to select a histogram in the Display field of the Result Presentation section. The result set is displayed as thumbnails instead, which is the default result set rendition. 24 Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

Histogram toolbar A toolbar is provided in the histogram view of the Search Results container and provides several options, which are explained in the following table: Toolbar option Show/Hide Channels Prev Next Histogram type Bin Size Description A drop-down menu that lists the channels that are selected in the query. You can select or clear a channel from the result set summarization. A button that is activated when there are multiple tabs in the search results container, for moving to the previous histogram in the result set of the query. A button that is activated when there are multiple tabs in the search results container, for moving to the next histogram in the result set of the query. Displays the current histogram graph type. A stacked bar chart is displayed by default. Click to toggle between a clustered and stacked histogram graph type. A drop-down menu that you can use to modify the time interval for the result set summarization. Depending on the time frame that you specified for your query, the following time interval options are available for selection: v Minutes v Quarter hours v Half hours v Hours v Days v Weeks Stacked histogram By default, when you select to view the results as a histogram, the results are summarized in a stacked graph or, as specified in your user preferences. The result set total is divided into subtotals for each time interval. If you hover over the stacked bar in the graph, the total number of events or alerts for the specific timeframe is revealed in a pop-up box. If the result set includes events and queries for multiple channels, each channel is shaded differently within the bar, as outlined in the following figure: Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager 25

Figure 2. A stacked histogram graph You can change the histogram summarization from a stacked graph to a clustered graph by clicking Stacked Bars in the histogram toolbar. Click the histogram title to toggle between the two types of histogram graph. Clustered histogram Like the stacked graph, when you hover over any bar in the graph, the total number of events or alerts that occurred during the time interval is revealed in a pop-up box. If the result set includes multiple channels, for every time interval, each channel is summarized in a separate bar that is shaded differently on the graph, as outlined in the following figure: Figure 3. A clustered histogram graph You can change the histogram summarization from a clustered graph to a stacked graph by clicking Clustered Bars in the histogram toolbar. If you prefer to view the results on a clustered histogram graph instead of a stacked bar graph by default when you submit a new query, modify the Histogram Graph Type setting in the User Profile options. For more information, see Setting your user preferences on page Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

Timeframe When you select to view your query results in a histogram, the result set is automatically summarized by a specific time interval that is most appropriate to the timeframe of your query. For example, if you are querying events or alerts that match a specific criteria and occurred during the last 2 hours, by default, the result totals are summarized in to bars for every 15 minutes within the specified timeframe. You can modify the time interval of the histogram by selecting an interval from the available choices in the Bin Size drop-down menu in the histogram toolbar. The time intervals that are listed in the Bin Size menu vary depending on the timeframe that is selected in your query. The following table outlines the available Bin Size menu options and the default histogram interval for the different time periods of a query. Timeframe of your query (hours) Bin Size options available to select Default histogram interval split Greater than 48 Weeks Days Greater than 24, but less than or equal to 48 Greater than 12, but less than or equal to 24 Greater than 1, but less than or equal to 12 Less than or equal to 1 Days Days Hours Days Hours Half-hours Hours Half-hours Quarter-hours Hours Half-hours Quarter-hours Minutes Hours Half-hours Quarter-hours Minutes Drill down From within the histogram view, you can drill down and view the events or alerts of that time period as a subset. You can switch from the histogram summary view to the detailed result set thumbnails and data for each bar in the histogram. Click a bar in the histogram to view the thumbnails of all events or alerts that occurred during the specific timeframe of the selected bar, as indicated in the y axis. The result total that displays when you hover over a single bar matches the result total for the thumbnails that are displayed in the results pane just beneath the graph when you drill down. The thumbnail results are listed by either relevance rank or reverse chronological order, depending on the search criteria mode of your query. Heatmap summarization The heatmap view shows a two-dimensional image of the selected channel view with colors overlaid on the view image to summarize the event track activity of the current set of query results. The overlaid color appears darker if more events occur in the same area to indicate where the greatest amount of activity occurred based on the search criteria. To view a heatmap of the selected channel and specific query criteria, when you complete the Result Presentation section of the selection criteria form, set the Display field to Thumbnails. In the Search Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager 27

Results container for the selected channel, click Display As > Heatmap. A photographic image of the channel view is displayed superimposed with colors in the main areas of activity, as outlined in the following figure: Figure 4. An example of a heatmap view of a channel. Note: The heatmap result summarization view is not available for all channel search results. The heatmap view is only available when you submit an event search on channels that have an associated analytic profile that produces trajectory data. If you are querying a channel that is associated with an analytic profile that does not support heatmaps, you do not see the option to select a heatmap in the Search Results container. Heatmap summarization is not available for alert search results. For more information about the capabilities of each profile, see Analytic profiles that are provided by IBM Intelligent Video Analytics on page 39. Trajectory summarization The trajectory summarization view shows a two-dimensional image of the selected channel view with blue colored event tracks overlaid on the view image to give an idea of where the events took place. To view a trajectory summary of the selected channel and specific query criteria, when you complete the Result Presentation section of the selection criteria form, set the Display field to Thumbnails. In the Search Results container for the selected channel, click Display As > Trajectory. A photographic image of the channel view is displayed superimposed with blue colored event tracks in the main areas of activity, as outlined in the following figure: 28 Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5: Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 User's Guide

Figure 5. An example of a trajectory view summary of a channel. Note: Like the heatmap, the trajectory summarization view is not available for all channel search results. Trajectory summarization is only available when you submit an event search on channels that have an associated analytic profile that produces trajectory data. If you are querying a channel that is associated with an analytic profile that does not support trajectory summaries, you do not see the option to select Trajectory in the Search Results container. Trajectory summarization is not available for alert search results. For more information about the capabilities of each profile, see Analytic profiles that are provided by IBM Intelligent Video Analytics on page 39. Archiving selected result set items By default, the event and alert metadata that is generated by IBM Intelligent Video Analytics is purged from the system after a specific time period. You can choose to archive specific events and alerts that you do not want to be purged from the system. About this task Your system administrator controls how often the metadata is purged. If you would like an event or alert to remain in the system after you submit a forensic search in the client, in the Search Results container select and mark one or more key frame results to be archived. Note: When you select to archive an event or alert result, the associated key frame and metadata are not purged. The archive feature of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics has no effect on the retention period of the archived video source in your VMS system. Procedure 1. Go to the Forensic Search Manager pane. 2. Submit an event or alert query, making sure that in the Result Presentation section of the selection criteria form, the Display field is set to Thumbnails. 3. In the Show/Hide Channels results pane, select the results that you would like to preserve data for. To select an item, click the key frame for that event or alert. To select multiple items, press the Shift and Ctrl keys while you select the key frames. 4. Go to the Actions menu, and select Archive. Chapter 3. Forensic Search Manager 29
