1 By Ben Lindenbaum A fter seven hours of driving, ending with continuous twists and turns, I was finally there. I drive up the narrow dirt road with my parents in our Jeep, the sound of a ukulele in front of me. My eyes gleam with joy. I know that I have already found the perfect camp for me. That was how I was welcomed to HVC, or Hidden Valley Camp. HVC is a non competitive co-ed camp in Freedom, Maine, with more things to do then you can imagine. Why? You will soon find out. HVC and summer go together like paper and a pencil you can't have one without the other.

Is There Competition At HVC? A s we say, At HVC everyone is a loser. In other words, HVC is not competitive. There is no competition with any other camp, nor is there color war.

But there is a soccer team and a basketball team, along with soccer and basketball fun. The soccer and basketball teams both split up into two teams, and play a game once every four weeks, or one semester. These games are really enjoyable, especially if you are playing because the whole camp is there, eating hot dogs and cheering you on. There is also art and animal care. HVC has a lot of llamas. You will probably see a class with one every hour. HVC also offers art classes like tye-dye, woodworking, pottery, plays and musicals, rock band, photography, and more. What Are Some Fun Events At HVC? A lthough HVC does not compete with other camps, there are many things that make HVC unique, like the Candy Drop!!! The Candy Drop is a total surprise. During the Candy Drop, a plane flies over the soccer field and drops candy. Everybody races onto the field with their pillow cases, collecting candy from the ground and jumping up and down trying to catch it. This goes on for only about ten minutes, but, trust me, this is going to be your best experience at HVC! Some more awesome things at camp Someone with a hat on fire include Junk Food Day and the Wheel of Misfortune. On during the Wheel of Misfortune. Junk Food Day, you basically eat junk food instead of your regular breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Wheel of Misfortune is an evening event where there are crazy contests, intense theatrics, flaming arrows, and more.

On Gross Day -as you may of already assumed-you make yourself as gross as you can get(the whole experience is optional).

3 For When You Get Tired E very three days, there is a lazy day. On lazy days you wake up later and don't stick to the your daily schedule. You may go to a roller skating rink, a movie theater, or just stay at camp and do something fun like Gross Day. On Gross Day -as you may of already assumed-you make yourself as gross as you can get(the whole experience is optional). In addition to lazy days, every week there is something called Electives. During Electives, you choose from a variety of activities like Capture the Flag, Peter s Forbidden Tour, AWAC dance party, and a whole lot more. HVC never gets boring.

4 What Is The International Campers Program A nother nice thing about HVC is that there is a program called international campers program, which makes an effort to encourage campers from all around the world come to HVC. There are campers from China, Japan, France, and more. One night when I was at camp, the Korean campers made a delicious dinner for the whole camp, including rice and sticky chicken wings. What Is A Day Like At HVC? I n addition, HVC also has schedules unlike other camps. In most camps, cabins stay together. In HVC, cabins split up. For example, when I'm making glass beads, my friend might be playing basketball.

What Kind of Kids Go To HVC? H VC also has an amazing group of kids. Although no one is alike, everyone fits in. You shouldn't be surprised to meet your best friend at HVC. I was even in the same cabin as my third cousin! There is no one who I would call a bully at HVC.

6 When Are You Too Old To Go To HVC? O ne more great thing about HVC is that when you're too old to be a camper, you can do a teen program, or become an AWAC (Awaiting Work As Counselor). Teen programs are programs offered to teenagers like adventure, apprentice, and community. AWACs are teenagers who decide to stay at camp and help the counselors. But it doesn t end there! After being a AWAC or doing a teen program, you can become a counselor. In fact, the owners met each other at a nearby camp, and enjoyed it so much that they bought HVC and have lived there for over twenty years. That is how you really stay at camp forever. Come To HVC!!! N ow that you want too go too HVC, I ll give you the link; And once you get there, don't be nervous to be yourself. Always be ready for the candy drop, and choose your classes well. Every class is extremely fun. Don't be surprised with who you meet! Well, I ll see you there!:)
