GUIDE TO NUMBER PORTING HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO TRANSFER MY NUMBERS? WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF NUMBER PORTING? HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PORT MY NUMBERS? WILL THERE BE ANY DOWNTIME? WHY PORT YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBERS? WHAT IS NUMBER PORTING? HOW WILL I KNOW THAT MY NUMBERS WILL WORK?
1 WHAT IS NUMBER PORTING? Number Porting is a regulated obligation which enables users of Publicly Available Telephone Services (including mobile services) to change their service or communications provider whilst keeping their existing telephone number.
2 WHY PORT YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBERS? Moving your telephone numbers from one provider to another may provide you with some financial savings as well as simplifying issue resolution. For example, many of our customers like to consolidate their phone line provision and support with their phone system provider. That way should any issues occur, there is a single owner for issue resolution.
3 HOW DO I MAKE SURE THE CORRECT DETAILS ARE IN PLACE TO MAKE SURE THAT MY PORT IS PROCESSED SUCCESSFULLY? To allow services to be moved from one provider to another, it is the responsibility of the current communications provider to supply the correct information to the customer. The current provider cannot legally withhold this information and can only reject the port request if the information on the order is incorrect. This is as per Ofcom guidelines. We will work with you to determine who the Range Holder(s) and Losing Communications Provider of the numbers are. We ll also determine whether our chosen carrier has a porting agreement in place with our chosen provider.
4 WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF NUMBER PORTING? If the Range Holder and the Losing Communication Provider are the same provider, then this is known as a Provide port. If the Range Holder is different to the Losing Communication Provider then this is a Subsequent port. There are additional lead times for Subsequent port orders as there is an extra communications provider that we need to contact to gain acceptance. If there are multiple range holders associated with the main telephone number then this is known as a Mixed Operator Port. This carries a longer lead time than a standard port.
5 WHICH CARRIERS DO YOU HAVE PORTING AGREEMENTS IN PLACE WITH? Our preferred carrier has porting agreements with the following carriers: Barritel Level 3 Simwood Voxbone BSkyB Magrathea Spitfire BT Openreach Mintaka Storacall Colt New Call Telecom Telephone Services (Gradwell) Coms.com Opan (Talk Talk) Viatel (UK) Inclarity Orange Virgin Media Invoco Pulsant Vodafone Kcom (Affiniti) Resilient VoIP Unlimited
6 WHAT IF THERE IS NO PORTING AGREEMENT BETWEEN OUR CARRIERS? You can still port your numbers to our carrier using our IPEX Port Process, there is no formal SLA for this type of port so it is difficult to predict how long it will take.
7 HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PORT MY NUMBERS? The time-frame will depend on the type of line that you operate with. An indication of standard lead times is indicated below for reference. Provide Port Subsequent Port Single Line 4 7 Multi Line (including associated & other numbers) 7 10 Multi line (150 lines or less) Multi lie (151 lines or more) Complex DDI and BT FeatureNet 22 25
8 WHAT TIME OF DAY WILL MY PORT TAKE PLACE? You have three main options to port your numbers: Port Time Type Meaning Options Fixed Time Standard Out of Hours This means that we agree with the Range Holder up front on the time of your port. This is the most efficient type of port and should be completed within 20 minutes of the agreed time. We will trigger the port on the port date with the Range Holder at 10am. This port can take up to 2 hours to complete once triggered, and a little bit longer for the portal to reflect this due to our post-port check. This is where you would like a port order that is outside of normal business hours (08:00-18:00 for Single Line orders). This will be sent to the range holder/losing communications provider for acceptance and for them to check resource availability at the time you've requested. This is subject to a charge. 8.00am 9.00am 10.00am 11.00am noon
9 HOW WILL I KNOW THAT MY NUMBERS WILL WORK? We will perform what are know as pre-port test calls. This is a test call that happens before the port to the new solution to check: That your product is set up correct Identify any potential faults before you go live Call quality Call routing
10 WILL THERE BE ANY DOWNTIME? You should be prepared for a short period of downtime whilst the numbers are ported from their previous operator across to our service. Downtime should be minimal (minutes in most cases) and is an unavoidable part of the porting process. If you cannot tolerate downtime during office hours, you should opt for an out of hours charge for a small additional fee.
11 WHAT IF I WANT TO TRANSFER NON GEOGRAPHIC NUMBERS? Again, we will identify who the Range Holder(s) and Losing Communications Provider of the numbers are. We will again look to see if a porting agreement is in place between your existing communications provider and ourselves. For non geographic numbers, we have porting agreements in place with the following providers: Barritel BT Openreach Colt Global Crossing Kcom (Affiniti) Magrathea Orange Business Solutions Telephony Services (Gradwell) Telstra Virgin Media (Telewest) Vodafone (CWC) Vodafone (Thus) Vodafone (ex Energis) Your Comms If the Range Holder and the Losing Communication Provider are the same provider, then this is known as a Provide port. If the Range Holder is different to the Losing Communication Provider then this is a Subsequent port. There are additional lead times for Subsequent port orders as there is an extra communications provider that we need to contact to gain acceptance.
12 HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO TRANSFER MY NON GEOGRAPHIC NUMBER? The published lead times are as stated below: Port Type Time (Days) Provide Port 5 Subsequent Port 7
13 WILL I NEED TO SUPPLY ANY SUPPORTING INFORMATION FOR MY NON GEOGRAPHIC NUMBER? For a non geographic number port, a letter of authority is required. This document is used by our carrier to support their request to transfer the number. A Letter of Authority which has not been completed properly will cause delays to your port order, so it is vital that you get this right. We will require assistance from the losing communications provider to ensure that the details are correct.
14 WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO PROVIDE? We will also require the destination number for your non geographic number to map to. A simple instruction telling us to point number A at number B is sufficient.
