2 Competencies and 1. Student will be able to converse in Apache and use correct words as they apply to specific conversations. a. Develop a vocabulary of 200 new Apache language words. b. Converse successfully and interactively in job oriented and social settings. c. Ask and answer questions using Apache language. d. Develop a vocabulary that will meet every day needs. e. Develop a family chart; introduce family members, and the four clans of grandparents. o by working in a classroom setting with students participating with the instructor. o by communicating verbally. o learner can master a vocabulary consisting of 200 new words. o learner can attain a foundation for further development in Apache language. o learner can demonstrate knowledge by giving direction to the school, ordering a meal in Apache. 2. Student will gain competency in reading and writing Apache language in daily living. a. Write out alphabet sounds given by the instructor. b. Write out simple three-four letter words. c. Read and say numbers d. Read and say the months of the year. e. Read and say the days of the week. f. Read and write Apache family names. g. Read and write commands. h. Read and write handling verbs commands. i. Read and write simple sentences. j. Read and write the four Apache clans (of the grandparents). o by working in a classroom setting and by students participating with the instructors. o by submitting all workbook assignments. o by passing weekly quizzes. o learner can write simple five or more letter words. o learner can read aloud simple sounds and words. o learner can read aloud the learning objectives. 3 3. Students will develop natural speech patterns in Apache language. a. Read the alphabet. b. Know diacritics. c. Understand and write simple sentences. d. Converse a simple dialogue in Apache. e. Understand Apache words. o by participating in a classroom setting with student and instructor. o by passing a written exam. o by creating a storybook. o by demonstrating dialog in Apache on cassette or video tape. o learner can write Apache words. o learner can use the diacritics accurately in sentences. o learner can make small booklet featuring Apache words. o learner can write a simple sentence storybook. learner can make a recording of their own voice on a alphabet and sign an Apache song. 4. Student will be able to use correct grammar in Apache language while conversing. a. Student will be able to use correct grammar and infliction in Apache language while conversing. b. Student will develop proper grammar and infliction in Apache language with everyday communication needs. c. Student will write a conversational dialog to meet the needs of formal/non formal greeting. d. Understand the differences between formal and non-formal events in writing. o by working with other students and participating with the instructor in a class room setting. o by reading class projects aloud to other student and the instructor in the classroom setting. o By oral demonstration. o learner can attain a foundation for further development in grammar in Apache language. o learner can converse with another student to demonstrate formal settings verses non-formal settings. o learner can write a dialog that can be used daily in public places. o learner can transcribe and write songs in Apache/English. Student will dictate jokes in Apache and rewrite in English. c. Student will present and read in call all materials developed. d. Student will develop songs modern or traditional and present on cassette/video or in class. o by working with other students and participating with the instructor. o by reading aloud from the project of other students. o by oral demonstration. o by creating a book of at least 15 pages. o by demonstrating story/song on cassette/video tape. o learner can translate nursery rhyme in Apache. o learner can write and translate Apache joke. o learner can transcribe and write songs in Apache/English. o leaner can transcribe and recite the clan story 6. Student will develop an understanding and gain knowledge of the Apache Culture. a. Identify the four sacred colors of the Apache. b. Identify the four directions and name the director in Apache. c. Identify 10 common edible plants in the San Carlos Reservation Area. d. Identify 10 fruits grown in the area. e. Identify 20 place names in Apache. f. Identify 20 animal names and ten insect names in Apache. g. Describe the importance of the family and clans to the Apache culture. o by working with other students and participating with the instructor. o by making a storybook of at least 15 pages. o by singing the song The Cricket. o by presenting finished products in class and be videotaped by instructors and other students. o by passing the final examination. o learner can identify the four sacred colors. o learner can identify the four directions and name each of the directions. o learner knows the harvest story The Cricket and is able to retell it in Apache.
