1 Empower Data Exporter This tool is an example program which demonstrates some capabilities of the Empower Toolkit. It was not created using Waters Software Development Lifecycle. This tool was tested in a limited fashion and is not structurally validated by Waters Corporation. This tool is open source and Waters freely distributes the source code for use and modification by customers that have purchased the Empower Toolkit Option. This source code was created using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 (Visual Basic). For more information on use of the Toolkit, see the documentation provided with the Empower 2 Toolkit option. The Empower Data Exporter is for use with Empower 2154 and requires the Microsoft.NET Framework version 2.0. The EDE facilitates the export of information from Empower, the tool allows users to select information within Empower and then export the information in supported formats. A Plug-in style architecture has been used to achieve a flexible and extensible system in which extra export formats and a wider variety of information from Empower can be exported with minimal effort. The EDE comes with a couple of standard plug-ins. Result Selector This allows user to select Result Set, Result and Peak information from within Empower by specifying the fields to export and then an Empower Result to export information on. Txt File Creator Installation Writes selected information to a text file. The base installation of the Empower Data Exporter includes the Txt File Creator and the Result Selector. Other plug-ins are available for download from the Waters web site, and are installed separately. To install the application extract the.zip files and run setup.exe. Follow the Installation Wizard. It is recommended that you do not alter the standard install directory, however if you do alter the standard install directory please alter the install directory of all subsequent plug-ins to match. The installation will create a folder similar to the one outlined below. There is a configuration folder, an Empower Data Exporter folder and an additional folder for each plug-in. Initially this should be the Result Selector and the Txt File Creator. Page 1 of 8

2 Inside the configuration folder are the configuration files for each plug-in. Application Overview 1) Login into Empower 2) Use the buttons on the left to select the Empower Data Export tab that you wish to use. Fill in the tab to select the Empower Data to Export. Page 2 of 8

3 3) Using the button on the right hand side select the Export method that you wish to use. Fill in the export options for this tab. Page 3 of 8

4 4) Click the Export button at the bottom of the page. 5) A message box will appear when the export is complete. Please be patient, if you are exporting large amounts of data this may take a short while. Page 4 of 8

5 Result Selector Plug-in The Result Selector plug-in will allow you to select information associated with results in a specific Empower Result Set. You need to select each Empower Result that you wish to export information on. For each selected result the tool will then export the following information - The Sample Set that contains the result Values of the Result itself Peak data associated with this Result There are three main steps to selecting the information 1. Select the Result Set that contains the information you wish to Export. Note that if the Project contains no valid Result Set s then this drop down will be empty. 2. Defining the header a. Select the Header tab b. Choose the Result Set Fields that you wish to export (typically used as a header to the output), c. Select the Result Fields that you wish to export. Page 5 of 8

6 3. Selecting the Results and Defining the Peaks a. Select the Results that you want to export information on. This a tree view and you can select more than one result. If you tick the result set name than all results within the set will be exported. b. Define the peak information you want to export by selecting the field names on the right. Page 6 of 8

7 Text Exporter Plug-in The Text Exporter plug-in will allow you to write information to a text file. There a few configuration settings that you can alter in order to fine tune the export, these are Text Delimiter Some of the fields that can be exported text fields. The delimiter you select here will come before and after all text fields, e.g. with a delimiter of -, you would get Richard-. Field Delimiter The field delimiter is placed between the field title and its value or between different values in a list.e.g. If the delimiter was =, you would get Page 7 of 8

8 ResultSetId=1886 Record Delimiter And for a list of values in a table format 1=a=b= =False This is placed at the end of each field and value pair, or at the end of a row of values e.g. with a delimiter of ; you would get Or ResultSetName,GPC_Demo; CalibrationId,1887; 1,a,b, ,False; Output File This is the location and the name of the file you want to create. You can either enter the directory manually or click the set button for a browser to appear. The filename needs to meet standard windows file name criteria and should not contain an extension as an.ars extension is appended automatically. Page 8 of 8
