Please, remember that to pass exercises, the sum of the poits gathered by solvig the questios ad attedig the exercise groups must be at least 4% ( poits) of the sum of the umber of questios (45) ad the exercise weeks (6). The percetage limits for the bous poits are as follows: 6% ( poits), 7% (6 poits) ad 8% (4 poits). Please, cosult Jorma Laurikkala (jorma.laurikkala@uta.fi) or atted the exercise group, if you have ay questios. The aswers are submitted to the WETO system. The submissio deadlie has bee exteded to Suday, October at.55 o clock. Please, follow the good programmig practices: ame variables itelligibly, ited your code, commet the code ad avoid overly log lies of code. The I class, which is applied to read iputs i this course, ca be foud at the Koodit locatio of the course homepage ad at the WETO system. The Java complier (the javac program) ad iterpreter (the java program) have bee istalled o the workstatios of the computer labs. Please, cotact the lead teacher of the course if you ecouter problems while istallig the Java JDK o your computer.. Please, fid at: the TwoUp program. Idet the code ad submit the reformatted code i TwoUp.java ito WETO. State i commets the style you are usig ad give a referece, for example a lik to a style guide, if you idet your code with a style sigificatly differet from the oe used i the course.. Write i Java a program amed StrigBegier for pritig the begiig of a strig. The program reads the strig from the user. I additio, the umber of characters that are prited from the begiig of the strig is read from the user. The program prits a error message istead of the begiig of the strig, if the umber of characters less tha or equal to zero or greater tha the legth of the strig. Use oly the charat ad legth operatios from the Strig class. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "Tryig is the first step towards failure." ad : Hello! I prit the begiig of a strig. Tryig is the first step towards failure. Try A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "Vacuumig sucks." ad : Hello! I prit the begiig of a strig. Vacuumig sucks. Itroductio to Programmig I Fall 7 Jorma Laurikkala / 5

. Write i Java program that trucates a strig by removig a equal umber of characters from the begiig ad the ed of the strig. The program reads from the user the strig ad the umber of characters to be removed. The trucated strig is prited to the scree. A error message is prited, if the umber of characters is less tha or equal to zero or greater tha or equal to the umber of characters to be removed multiplied by two. For example, if the iputs are "abc" ad, the trucated strig is "b", because the first ad the last characters are removed. The program is amed StrigStripper. Use oly the charat ad legth operatios from the Strig class. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "abc" ad : Hello! I strip characters from a strig. abc a A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "abcd" ad : Hello! I strip characters from a strig. abcd A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "abcdef" ad : Hello! I strip characters from a strig. abcdef cd 4. Write a Java program amed CharacterMultiplier that creates a ew strig where a give character of a old strig is repeated. The program reads from the user a strig, a idex value of character s locatio ad a iteger that idicates the times the character i the give locatio is to be repeated. For example, if the iputs are "Aargh!", 4 ad, the programs adds three lowercase h letters after the lowercase letter h associated with the idex value producig a ew strig "Aarghhhh!" Use oly the charat ad legth operatios from the Strig class. Itroductio to Programmig I Fall 7 Jorma Laurikkala / 5

A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "abc", ad : abc Please, eter locatio: Please, eter multiplier: A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "Java", ad : Java Please, eter locatio: Please, eter multiplier: Jaava A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "Aargh!", 4 ad : Aargh! Please, eter locatio: 4 Please, eter multiplier: Aarghhhh! 5. Create a Java program amed AlteratioCouter that reads a strig ad couts how may times cosecutive characters alterate. For example, if the iput is "titti", the characters chage four times: t i, i, t ad t i. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iput is "abba": Hello! I cout character alteratios. abba There were alteratios. Itroductio to Programmig I Fall 7 Jorma Laurikkala / 5

A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iput is "titti": Hello! I cout character alteratios. titti There were 4 alteratios. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iput is "aaa": Hello! I cout character alteratios. aaa There were alteratios. 6. Write i Java a program amed Iterrogator that poses the user a questio ad accepts as a aswer oly oe of the two possible choices. The choices are selected usig a character. The program prits the questio to the scree. A error message is prited ad the questio is posed as log as the user eters a character which is ot recogised by the program as a valid aswer. The questio ad the aswers are read from the user before the queryig starts. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "Are you Sarah Coor?", 'y' ad '': Hello! I ask a madatory questio. Please, eter the questio: Are you Sarah Coor? Please, eter the first aswer: y Please, eter the secod aswer: Are you Sarah Coor? N Are you Sarah Coor? See you soo. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are "To (b)e or ()ot to be?", 'b' ad '': Hello! I ask a madatory questio. Please, eter the questio: To (b)e or ()ot to be? Please, eter the first aswer: b Please, eter the secod aswer: To (b)e or ()ot to be? b See you soo. Itroductio to Programmig I Fall 7 Jorma Laurikkala 4 / 5

7. Write i Java a program amed SmallestIteger that determies the smallest value of a sequece of itegers. The legth of the sequece ad the itegers are read from the user. The smallest iteger is prited to the scree. A error message is prited, if the legth is less to or equal to zero. Hit: Store the curret smallest value i a helper variable ad update the variable value always whe a value smaller tha the curret smallest value is ecoutered. Iitialise the variable with the first iteger of the sequece of with the largest possible value for the variable. For example, the largest value of the it type is stored i the Iteger.MAX_VALUE costat. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are,, - ad : Hello! I determie the smallest iteger. Please, eter the umber of itegers: - The smallest iteger is -. A example of the fuctioig of the program, whe the iputs are 5,,,, ad 4: Hello! I determie the smallest iteger. Please, eter the umber of itegers: 5 4 The smallest iteger is.
