1 Parametric Truss STEP 1: from the big R _ scroll over New _ click on Family STEP 2: select Structural Framing - Complex and Trusses from the list of templates _ click on Open STEP 3: type RP (reference plane) _ draw two horizontal reference planes as shown in image 3 STEP 4: type DI (aligned dimension) _ create two dimensions between the reference planes _ click on EQ to make the two dimensions equal - equal 1 3 draw reference planes click on EQ 2 4 1

4 front view pin it STEP 13: go to the Front view _ select the Ref Level _ type HH (hide element) _ select the bottom horizontal reference plane _ type PN (pin) STEP 14: type RP (reference plane) draw another horizontal reference plane as shown in image 14 STEP 15: select the new reference plane _ from the Properties panel name it: Top STEP 16: type DI (aligned dimension) _ create a dimension from the top to bottom as shown in image 16 draw reference plane create dimension

5 lock the 4 locks STEP 17: select the Dimension _ from the Options Bar click on the Label pull down menu _ select <Add parameter...> Name it: Length _ Make it: Type Group parameter under: Dimensions _ click OK STEP 18: go to the Ref Level view (plan view) _ under the home tab click on Reference Line _ from the draw panel click on Rectangle STEP 19: lock the 4 locks to constrain the Reference Rectangle to the Reference planes STEP 20: using Reference Line draw the remaining rectangles (let s talk about the constraint locks) draw rectangle draw all the reference rectangles

6 un-check STEP 21: go to the 3D View _ (note: now we have a visible parametric framework in 3D) STEP 22: go to the Front view _ type VG (visibilty settings) _ under the Annotation tab un-check Dimensions & Reference Planes_ make a window selection of the entire lower area STEP 23: type CO (copy) _ from the reference bar un-check Constrain to allow movement in the vertical direction _ copy the reference lines vertically any distance _ press ESC STEP 24: re-select the new reference lines _ from the ribbon click on Edit Work Plane _ from the Work Plane window select Reference Plane: Top _ click OK parametric framework copy reference lines vertical window selection

7 left view STEP 25: go to the Left View _ hide the Ref Level _ draw two more Reference Lines as show in image 25 STEP 26: go to the 3D View _ flex the Length, Width & Height parameters to make sure they are working properly STEP 27: from the Ribbon under the home tab click on Set _ from the Work Plane window click on Pick a Plane _ click OK STEP 28: select the reference plan perpendicular to the triangle as shown in image 28 _ (note: use the tab key to cycle through the Reference Planes) 25 draw reference lines 27 use the tab key to cycle through reference planes 26 flex it 28 7

8 STEP 29: from the Ribbon click on Show to show the Work Plane STEP 30: from the home tab click on Reference Line _ draw a reference line as shown in image 30 STEP 31: lock it to the reference lines _ (note: it s important to keep track of which reference lines it s constrained to) STEP 32: type AL (align) _ select the upper exterior reference line _ move your cursor over the top of the reference line until the point appears _ click on it _ lock it lock it align the reference line point to the reference line draw reference line

9 STEP 33: type AL (align) _ select the lower reference line _ move your cursor over the bottom of the reference line until the point appears _ click on it _ lock it STEP 34: flex the Length, Width & Height parameters to make sure they are working properly STEP 35: draw & constrain the remaining reference lines as shown in image 35 STEP 36: using shift & the wheel _ orbit the view 180 _ from the Ribbon under the home tab click on Set _ from the Work Plane window click on Pick a Plane _ click OK 33 align the reference line point to the reference line 35 draw the remaining reference lines flex as you go flex it

13 STEP 49: change the Chord Radius to: 1 _ click OK Save the profile family in your class-08 folder as: Circle.rfa STEP 50: from the Ribbon click on Load Into Project _ from the Project Browser click on the + to expand Families, Profiles & Circle 49 STEP 51: from the ribbon under the Home tab click on Sweep STEP 52: from the ribbon under the Sweep panel click on Pick Path

14 STEP 53: select the Reference Line as shown in image 53 STEP 54: from the Ribbon click on the Green check _ click on the Profile drop down menu and select Circle:Web Radius STEP 55: from the Ribbon click on the Green check STEP 56: add Sweeps to all the Truss Webs as shown in image 56 select reference line

15 STEP 57: add sweeps to the chords as show in image 57 STEP 58: flex the Length, Width & Height parameters to make sure they are working properly Ctrl + S

16 STEP 59: from the big R _ scroll over New _ click on Project STEP 60: in the New Project pop-up window _ click OK STEP 61: Ctrl + Tab back over to the Truss Family _ click on: Load Into Project _ from the Load into Projects pop-up window Check on Project File _ click OK STEP 62: from the Options Bar click on Rotate after Placement

17 STEP 63: click to place the beam _ rotate 90 to make the truss vertical _ press ESC twice STEP 64: select the truss _ from the Properties Panel click on Edit Type STEP 65: set the Width = 10 Length = 40 Height = 5 click OK STEP 66: type AR (array) _ array a count of 4 trusses in the horizontal direction 10 apart
