Jones of the Anthropology Department at San Diego State University in The project was funded by the National Science Research Foundation, and was an analysis of over 40 communities in the San Diego metropolitan area. Students gathered statistical data from a variety of local governmental and private agencies, and direct observations of community life from field visits.
