5 Digital Infrastructure Development Gigabit Squared will be building more than 150 miles of underground fiber with a backbone that runs from Cermak Road on the north to 99th Street/Interstate 94 on the south, and from the Dan Ryan Expressway on the west to the lakeshore on the east. Fiber-to-the-premises service starts at 10 megabits per second and goes up to 1 gigabit per second (1,000 megabits), while the business service goes up to 100 gigabits per second. Average download speeds currently range from 10 to 25 megabits per second, while upload speeds vary from 2 to 8 megabits per second

Google will fund the installation and build of the network, and provide free access for three years.
