3 Chapter 1: Introduction Welcome to the IBM SmartCloud Entry 3.2 hosted trial guide. With IBM SmartCloud Entry, you can maintain control over the allocation of resources with a web-based application. The IBM SmartCloud Entry 3.2 hosted trial guide will go over common public or private cloud operations : Monitoring resource allocations and billing for services Providing access to multiple clouds from a single portal Provisioning and de-provisioning servers Capturing instances Starting and stopping an instance Resizing existing virtual machines Creating projects to give team-specific access to instances For additional information please see IBM SmartCloud Entry Admin Guide or User Guide: Page 3

4 Chapter 2: Getting Started Request for IBM SmartCloud Entry Hosted Trial Environment: Go to following site and request access to the hosted trial. Page 4

5 Before Using IBM SmartCloud Entry Hosted Trial Environment License Agreement You should have now received the with access information and links to the IBM SmartCloud Entry Trial Web UI. Make sure to read the license agreement before clicking on Accept Change Default Password Login using the default username: admin and password: passw0rd. To change the password, click on SmartCloud Entry Administrator Select Show user preferences Then click on Change Password to change the password. Page 5

6 Chapter 3: Common Operations Providing access to multiple clouds from a single portal 1) To add demo cloud configurations click on the Configuration tab and click on the add cloud icon shown below: 2) Fill the required information to add the demo cloud. Make sure select the Create a demo cloud option. Supported demo cloud environment include: VMControl, OpenStack, and VMware. Note that though multiple demo cloud environments for VMControl and Vmware are supported, IBM SmartCloud Entry 3.2 currently supports only one OpenStack cloud environment. The sample configuration for a demo OpenStack cloud environment configuration is shown on the right: 3) Once the cloud configuration is filled, complete the form by clicking on Add. Page 6

7 You should now see the change in Cloud Status on the right side of the Web UI. Navigate to the Instances and Images tabs to see the newly added Instances and Images. Note that the process of adding demo instances and images will take a few minutes to complete. Monitoring resource allocations and billing for services Before basic operations can be performed make sure that an account is setup. Click on the Access tab and then navigate to Accounts. Click on the new account icon to setup a new account. Fill out the New Account form and click on Save. Page 7

8 Make sure to add user(s) to the account. Fill out the New Account form and click on Save. The new account is now configured. Page 8

9 Provisioning and de-provisioning servers Once the demo clouds are added, images associated with the demo cloud will be available to be used for provision. Click on the Images tab, the figure below shows a comprehensive set of demo images for VMware, VMControl, and OpenStack demo clouds. Note: if billing is enabled, make sure that the current user has an account with sufficient balance. The provisioning of the server will fail if this is not properly set up. See Monitoring resource allocations and billing for services to setup the account. To provision a demo server Click on the desired demo image and click on Deploy by default the name field is already filled out once the desired provisioning settings are set and confirmed click on Deploy again. Navigate to the Instances tab to see the provisioned server. After a few minutes click on the refresh icon The Status of the server should now change from Deploying to OK. Page 9

10 To de-provision a demo server Navigate to the Instances tab and click on the server to be de-provisioned. Click on the Delete icon to de-provision the server. The de-provision action can also be done by selecting the server(s) from the main Instances list and then click on the Delete icon. Capturing instances To capture an instance (server), navigate to the Instances tab and click on the instance to be captured. Click on More and select Capture. Navigate to the Images tab to see the captured instance. Starting and stopping an instance To start or stop an instance, navigate to the Instance tab and click on the instance to be stopped or started. If an instance is currently stopped click on the Start icon to start the instance. If an instance is currently running click on the Stop icon to stop the instance. Resizing existing virtual machines To resize an existing virtual machine navigate to the Instance tab and click on the instance to be resized. Click on More and select Resize. Page 10

11 Creating projects to give team-specific access to instances You can create, manage, and request access to projects on the Projects page. Projects are used to define the users that have access to a set of images and instances. Only members of a project can view images and instance within a project. In many cases, projects correspond to a department or other human organization. To manage projects, go to the Access tab and click Projects to view the list of available projects. IBM SmartCloud Entry comes with a default project called the Public project, to which all users belong. All virtual images and instances created outside of the IBM SmartCloud Entry are, by default, assigned to the Public project. Create projects Before creating a project make sure that the authority is given by the administrator. Click on New Project and then enter the name of the project. To create the project click on Save. Move an instance to a project Navigate to the Instances tab and click on the instance to be moved. Click on Move to Project... and then select the project from the list. This will move the instance to that project. The same action can be performed to move an Image to a project from the Images tab. Page 11
