3 Preface The composer of this Partia, a Mr Grobe, is today totally unknown. Nothing is known about when he was born or when he died, or if he actually composed this piece. The only trace of him is his name on the cover of a manuscript written around 100, and preserved in the Düben collection at the University Library of Uppsala. The copies of the manuscript, numbered MHS 18:2, that have used where gratiously provided by the library. While making this edition have always tried to keep it as close to the original score as possible. All accidentals are there, but has been modernized, for example b sharp has been notated as b natural. n the original, accidentals are typically only valid for the current note. n cases where todays practice is different, have tried to clarify by putting accidentals above the staffs. Such accidentals should be valid for the rest of the bar. However, the manuscript were not complete in some places. Bar in the gamba part of the Allemande where unreadable and have therefore provided a suggestion. n the Basso Continuo part two bars where missing from the second part of the Courant. have provided a suggestion for bar 2 and 28. People involved in constructing these suggestions where, besides me: Elvira Nimhed, Monica Tobiasson and Martin Buhre. have provided two versions of both the score and the Viola D Amore part. One is notated as it should sound, and one uses the original scordatura notation. The original notation makes it very easy for violinists to play this piece on a Viola D Amore. The purpose of this edition, as well as all other music released by me, is a combination of me trying to learn more about 1:th and 18:th century music, and, at the same time, helping other people to get hold of interesting and rare music.
