1 Paint/Draw Tools There are two types of draw programs. Bitmap (Paint) Uses pixels mapped to a grid More suitable for photo-realistic images Not easily scalable loses sharpness if resized File sizes are large as information on each pixel is saved Common file formats include:.bmp.jpg.gif.tif.psd (Adobe Photoshop) Vector (Illustrator, AutoCad, Draw, Word drawing tools) Uses well-defined elements such as lines, curves, shapes and colors Elements are defined mathematically Example: If a vector-based image contains a red dot, the information such as the location of the circle s center point, the length of its radius, and the color would be the information used for this image File sizes are generally smaller containing only the mathematical formulas for each element within the image More suitable for illustrations which require precise measurements such as logos, maps Scalable resizing does not cause loss of quality (no pixalization) Common file formats include:.ai (Adobe Illustrator).cdr (Corel Draw).eps (encapsulated postscript Adobe Illustrator).dwg (AutoCad) Toolbox tools: Color Box: Free-form select Eraser/Color Eraser Color Picker Pencil Air Brush Line Rectangle Ellipse Select Fill Color Magnify Brush Text Curve Polygon Rounded Rectangle Selection Options (Options vary, depending on tool selected) Foreground color Background color To select a foreground color, left click on any of the color choices. To select a background color, right click on any color. For more color choices, double click on any color in the color box.

2 Paint/Draw Tools Paint Tips When you drag the pointer, the foreground color is used. If you right click while dragging, the background color is used. In shapes, when you drag the pointer, the foreground color is used to draw the line surrounding the shape, and the background color is used to fill the shape. To use the background color to draw the line surrounding the shape and the foreground color to fill the shape, hold down the right mouse button and drag the pointer. To undo up to three changes, on the Edit menu, click Undo for each change. The border width of the circle or ellipse is the same as the thickness selected for the line tools. To change the border thickness, click the line or curve tool in the toolbox, and then click the thickness you want in the box below the toolbox. Straight line 1. In the toolbox, click Line. 2. Below the toolbox, click a line width. 3. Drag the pointer to draw the line. Line Tips You can draw a perfectly horizontal, vertical, or 45-degree diagonal line by holding down SHIFT while dragging. Freeform Line - pencil tool 1. In the toolbox, click Pencil 2. Drag the pointer to draw the line. Curved line 1. In the toolbox, click Curve. 2. Below the toolbox, click a line width. 3. Draw a straight line by dragging the pointer. 4. Click where you want one arc of the curve to be, and then drag the pointer to adjust the curve. Repeat this step for a second arc. You can only create two curves for each line. Ellipse or circle 1. In the toolbox, click Ellipse. 2. Below the toolbox, click a fill style. 3. Drag the pointer to draw the ellipse or circle. Rectangle or square 1. In the toolbox, click Rectangle to create a square-cornered shape, or click Rounded Rectangle to create a round-cornered shape. 2. Below the toolbox, click a fill style. 3. To draw a rectangle, drag the pointer diagonally in the direction you want. Shape tips: To draw a square, hold down SHIFT while dragging the pointer. You can draw a circle by holding down SHIFT while you drag the pointer. To create a colored fill, click a fill style below the toolbox.

3 Polygon 1. In the toolbox, click Polygon. 2. Below the toolbox, click a fill style. 3. Drag the pointer to draw a straight line. 4. Click once at each position where you want a new line segment to appear. 5. Double-click when done. Polygon tips: To use only 45-degree and 90-degree angles, hold down the SHIFT key while dragging the pointer. Typing text 1. In the toolbox, click Text. 2. To create a text frame, drag the pointer diagonally to the size you want. 3. On the text toolbar, click the font, size, and style you want for the text. If the text toolbar is not displayed, on the View menu, click Text Toolbar. You can drag the toolbar to any location in the window. 4. Type your text. You can also paste text into a text box, but not graphics. 5. The color of the text is defined by the foreground color. To make the background of the text transparent, click 6. To make the background opaque and defined by the background color, click Type tips: You can enter text in a text box only once. When you click outside the box, the text is converted to a graphic image and you cannot make it active again. To change the color of the text, click a color in the color box. To undo up to three changes, on the Edit menu, click Undo for each change. You can only enter text into an image when you are in normal view. To display the normal view, on the View menu, point to Zoom, and then click Normal size. Erase (small area) 1. In the toolbox, click Eraser. 2. Below the toolbox, click an eraser size. 3. Right-click a color in the color box if the color you want to erase with is different from the current background color. 4. Drag the pointer over the area you want to erase. Eraser tips: The current background color is the eraser color. You can change the background color by rightclicking another color in the color box. Erase (large area) 1. In the toolbox, click Select to select a rectangular area, or click Free-Form Select to select a freeform area. 2. Select the area you want to erase. 3. The eraser color is the same as the background color shown in the color box below the toolbar. Rightclick a color in the color box to change the background color. 4. On the Edit menu, click Clear Selection. Erase entire image 1. If any part of the image is selected, click outside of the selected area. 2. On the Image menu, click Clear Image. 3. The current background color will be used to fill the cleared area.

4 Strech/skew image 1. In the toolbox, click Select to select a rectangular area or click Free-Form Select to select a freeform area. 2. Drag a box around the item you want to change. 3. Below the toolbox, click one of the following: 4. Click to apply an opaque background. 5. Click to apply a transparent background. 6. On the Image menu, click Stretch/Skew. 7. Under Stretch, type the percent to stretch your picture horizontally or vertically. 8. Under Skew, type the number of degrees to skew your picture horizontally or vertically. Resize picture 1. On the Image menu, click Attributes. 2. Under Units, click the unit of measurement you want to use for the width and height. 3. Type the measurements in Width and Height. Resize tips: You can also resize your picture by dragging the image resize handles, located at the lower-right corner and along the bottom and right sides of your picture. (You might need to maximize the window to see the square resize handles.) If your current picture is bigger than the new size, the picture is cut from the right side and bottom to fit within the smaller area. If your current picture is smaller than the new size, the extra area is filled with the selected background color. Fill with color 1. In the toolbox, click Fill With Color. 2. Click a color in the color box if the color you want is different from the current foreground color. Rightclick a color in the color box if the color you want is different from the current background color. 3. Click or right-click the area or object you want to fill. Fill color tips: If the shape you want to fill has any breaks in its border, the fill color spreads to the rest of the drawing area. To find and close any openings, click the View menu, pointing to Zoom, and then click Large Size or Custom. Brush painting 1. In the toolbox, click Brush. 2. Below the toolbox, click a brush shape. 3. To paint, drag the pointer over the image. Airbrush 1. In the toolbox, click Airbrush. 2. Below the toolbox, click a spray size. 3. To spray, drag the mouse pointer over the image.

5 Custom Colors 1. In the color box, click the color you want to change. 2. On the Colors menu, click Edit Colors. 3. Click Define Custom Colors. 4. Click the color swatch to change the Hue and saturation (Sat), and then move the slider in the color gradient to change the luminescence (Lum). 5. Click Add to Custom Colors. Using black and white 1. On the Image menu, click Attributes. 2. Under Colors, click Black and white. Color tip: If you change back to color, only new work will be in color. Change color of existing line 1. In the toolbox, click Fill With Color. 2. In the color box, click a different color. 3. Click the line you want to change. Tips: If the line is part of a shape, any connecting vertical and horizontal lines will also change to the new color. To make sure you change only the line color and not the surrounding area, you can zoom the picture to a larger size by clicking the View menu, pointing to Zoom, and then clicking Large Size or Custom. Color Picker 1. In the toolbox, click Pick Color. 2. Click the area containing the color you want to copy. 3. In the toolbox, click Fill With Color. 4. Click the object or area where you want the new color. Color picker tips: Copying a color using the eyedropper tool will change your foreground color. If you copy a color with the eyedropper tool by right-clicking, you will change your background color. To select part of a picture 1. In the toolbox, click Select to select a rectangular area, or click Free-Form Select to select a freeform area. 2. Drag the pointer to define the area you want to select. 3. You can now move, copy or delete the selected area. Tips: The rectangular tool allows you to define straight-edged areas you want to move or change in your picture. The freeform tool allows you to define exact areas of picture you want to change. You can trace a shape, drag it to another area of the picture, rotate it individually, or remove it. You can select opaque or transparent background. To turn off the selection box, click outside it.

6 Lines and Shapes Lines and shapes can add interest to a document, break up large text blocks or make an area stand out. To insert shapes, you must have the Drawing toolbar visible (View > Toolbars > Drawing). Some examples are: Lines: Arrows: Shapes: NOTE: Callouts include a textbox for typing, but you can add a text box to any shape to place text inside. To make different line types: Click on the line tool Move to the location where you want to draw your line. Click and drag to create the line. To rotate the line, click on one of the end dots and move your mouse until your line is rotated to desired direction. To move the line, place your mouse over the line until you have a four headed arrow, click and drag to the new location. To change the line style, create the line, then click on the Line/Border Style button or the Dash Style button Choose one of the listed items, or choose More Lines (at the bottom) for more choices. To change the line color, create the line, then (with the line selected) click on the Line Color drop down list box, select a color. Lines can also be used to put a border on a picture. Click on the picture Click on Line Color drop down list box and choose a color Click on Line/Border Style button, choose a line style Arrows Arrows are similar to lines, except you use the arrow tool. Use the Arrow Style button to change the arrow ends. Use the same method as lines to change the arrow color.

7 Shapes Oval/circle (Rectangle/square) To create these shapes, choose the oval (rectangle) tool Click and drag in the location you would like to place the shape To change the line color, select the shape, then click on the line color drop down list box To change the fill color, select the shape, then click on fill color drop down list box Tip: to draw a perfect circle/ square, hold down the shift key while dragging to create the shape. Using the Fill Color Tool With the fill tool you have several options. Solid Fill To fill a shape with a solid color, select the shape Click on the drop down list for the Color Fill tool Select a color from the list Or choose More Fill Colors and select a color You can add a different line color Select shape Click on Line Color drop down list box and choose a color Fill effects To add dimension to a shape, use fill effects. This allows you to use more than one color to fill a shape Select shape Click on the drop down list for the Color Fill tool Select Fill Effects Four choices Gradient Texture Pattern Picture The shape above was created using gradient, two colors (black and gray), shading style was from center. The one below was using Picture. Note that the picture does become distorted somewhat.

8 AutoShapes AutoShapes tool creates many common shapes for you hearts, callouts, banners, etc. Select the shape Click and drag to make the shape Use the same steps above to change the fill and line colors Text Boxes Use a text box to place text exactly where you want it You can place a text box inside any shape to help make text stand out Create the shape, then choose the text box tool and create a text box within If your text box has a line that you don t want: Right click on the text box and click on Format Text Box On the Colors and Line tab, under Line Color, choose No Line If your text box has a fill (white by default) you can choose No Fill to make it transparent Change the font, size, color of text in a text box the same way you would regular text Shadow and 3-D styles Use these buttons to add shadows or three dimension to shapes Shadows can be added to a photo, but 3-D can only be used on shapes Use of shadows: Use of 3-D: Rotating objects Many objects can be rotated. Drawing objects All objects have the free rotate option, except for the text box. The line/arrow objects rotate by clicking on one end point and moving your mouse (shown in line section). On other objects, the free rotate appears as a green dot. Click on the green dot and move your mouse to Object with free rotate button rotate Rotated object the object. Pictures Once a picture is rotated using the Rotate button on the picture toolbar, it will then have the free rotate handle. Text boxes In Word text boxes do not have the Rotate option. You can, however, use the Change text direction button on the Text Box toolbar. In Publisher text boxes do have the free rotate option.
