BOM Management Preparing to Manage your EBOM 7
Prepare to Manage Your EBOM Just Post Award and prior to Development Start, the PLC will have likely created and released an Award BOM. The first task will be to take out a working revision of each End Item to enable our attachment of Design Items which we will use to store and manage our CAD Data.
Create Working Folders and Copy Program Notification We recommend that you create a set of Folders where you will have quick access to: Your Program Master Your Product Work Package (PWP) Your End Items 1. In My Teamcenter, click your Home Folder to highlight it > Click File > New > Folder > Create your Program Master Folder. 2. Open your Mailbox and copy the Program Master from your Program Notification Envelope and Paste to your New Program Master Folder. 9
Create Part Folders The next preparation task will be to create a Sub-Folder under your Program where you can manage each for your End Items. 3. Select your Program Master Folder to highlight it. Create new Sub-Folder for each End Item. 4. Expand your Program Master Object to expose the Program Item Revision > Drag Program Item Revision to Structure Manager to find all of your End Items. 10
Copy Parts to Folders 5. From Structure Manager, Copy each End Item Revision > Navigate back to your Home Page > Paste the End Item Revision to your Folder 6. Double click the End Item Revision > Teamcenter will Open the Item and all of its Revisions in another Window 7. Copy the Item - ctrl C > Click back to your Home Tab > 11
Copy Parts to Folders (cont d.) 8. Stand on your End Item Folder > Click ctrl V to past the Item to your Folder 9. Finally, stand on the End Item Revision and click ctrl X to cut it from your Folder You now have the End Item in you Folder and can expand it to expose all Item Revision going forward 12
Make a Working Revision of Items The next step will be to take a Working Revision out of every Assembly and Component which will require a Design Item 1. Click your first Item Revision to highlight it > On the Man Toolbar select File > Revise 2. Teamcenter will present the Part Revise Dialogue > Select Major Revision Click Finish 3. Teamcenter will generate a New Working Revision and attach it to your Part Item 13
BOM Management Structuring an EBOM 14
EBOM Creation Approaches Note: The PLC team will almost always be given a Quote BoM from which they will create an Award BoM. Before creating an EBoM from scratch, check with you assigned PLC to determine if EBoM Exists 15
Modify the Award BOM If you have Components you can Copy & Paste them to your Assembly 1. Navigate to your part Item Revision in your Organization Pane > copy (ctrl C) the Component Item Revision > Click open Structure Manager > Stand on the Assembly Item you wish to paste them to > Click ctrl V to Paste 2. If you wish to Remove Items from a Structure, do not use the Delete Key. You must use the Remove a Line Tool 3. Stand on the Item you wish to remove > on the Main Toolbar click the Remove a Line Button Don t forget to Save your Changes 16
BOM Management Creating a Precise EBOM 17
Precise EBOM Overview Teamcenter is currently configured to Display Part BoM s in a Precise Mode - specifically selected revisions of each component which match the latest or preferred revision of the Design Item (CSAD Data). Upon release of the Award BoM, Teamcenter Froze Revision /000 and gave it an Award Status Note: you can view this by dragging any End Item in the Award BoM to Structure Manager and looking at its Item Revision Status column. To initiate the Design Process, the Product Engineers took out a new Working Revision of each Part Item and attached an ERP Design Item to it (the Design Item is where we manage the CAD Data). In the Precise Mode, starting at the Award BoM, the EBoM for each End Item will only Display Revision /000 for all newly created items. However, the CAD Designers have already created revision /001 of each Part Item to initiate the Design Process. Through the Design Process, your CAD Design Team will be releasing multiple revisions of each Design and will do so independently from the Part Revision Process we call this Part/Design Separation. At some point in time, you will need to create a specific instance of each End Item. At this point, you must work with your CAD Designer to assure the correct Revision of the Design Item is pasted in to the Represented By Folder of the Part Item Revision you are going to release and include in your Precise EBoM.
