1 How Your Desktop Looks After Joining the Training After joining the training your desktop will look similar to the desktop shown below. When the training begins you will see live video of your instructor, as well as video and slides presented by your instructor, in the Viewer Window (shown below at the top left).you can change settings and interact with your instructor by using the Control Panel (shown below at the top right). For example, as you will soon see, you will be using the Control Panel to make the Viewer Window full screen so you can see your instructor even better. 2 Expanding the Control Panel You can expand the Control Panel by clicking on the orange arrow at the top of the Control Panel. When you do this the Control Panel will expand as shown below. This Control Panel has been expanded. Copyright 2014 Recovering Function. All rights reserved. Page 2 of 15

3 Collapsing the Control Panel To collapse the Control Panel back to its original size you just click on the orange arrow again. 4 Using Your Telephone for Audio You can speak to, and listen to, your instructor using your telephone. This is the recommended method for audio because it is the easiest, and because it will allow you to be mobile in the event you want to stand and demonstrate your questions for the instructor using your department s webcam. This is the default setting in the Control Panel for audio. You can verify this setting by expanding the Control Panel as shown below. The telephone number for the training is displayed in your Control Panel. After dialing the telephone number, always be sure to enter the Audio PIN when prompted. For audio, the telephone option is selected. The phone number for the training is displayed, as well as the Audio PIN to be entered when prompted after calling the number. 5 Using the Internet for Audio (VOIP) If you don t have a telephone available for the training, you can use either a computer microphone (to speak) and ear buds borrowed from your smart phone (to listen), or a USB headset with a built-in microphone (to both speak and listen). In this case you should select the Mic & Speakers option in the Control Panel and then click on the Settings link as shown below (you can not use an open pair of computer speakers to listen because this would cause an echo for everyone attending). For audio, the Mic & Speakers option is selected. The Settings link is being clicked to configure and test the audio hardware on the computer. You can mute yourself anytime by clicking the microphone icon in the Control Panel (under the orange arrow). Copyright 2014 Recovering Function. All rights reserved. Page 5 of 15

Using the Internet for Audio (VOIP) After clicking the Settings link the Preferences Window will appear. From the Microphone Setup drop down select your microphone device.

To test that you have selected the correct microphone device, talk into your microphone and verify that the green microphone meter is reacting to your voice. Next, from the Speakers Setup drop down select your speaker device. To test that you have selected the correct speaker device click on the Play Sound button as shown below and verify that you hear music. Select your microphone device and test by speaking into your microphone. The meter should turn green. Select your speaker device and test by clicking the Play Sound button. Any other windows on the desktop will be hidden. The larger Viewer Window will make it even easier to see the live video of your instructor. If you mistakenly exit Fullscreen mode (i.e. back to Window mode), just click on the Fullscreen icon again. When in Fullscreen mode, if you ever prefer to go back to Window mode, just click the Fullscreen icon again (it works as a toggle). Copyright 2014 Recovering Function. All rights reserved. 9 Asking a Question Verbally by Raising Your Hand If you have a question you can raise your hand. The instructor will see that you have raised your hand and will open your microphone so that you can ask your question. To raise your hand just click on the Raise Hand icon in the Control Panel as shown below. You can always put your hand back down by clicking again on the Raise Hand icon (it works as a toggle). 11 Customizing Your Viewer Window When Slides are Being Shown Your instructor will often show slides which also appear in the Viewer Window. You can customize the size of the instructor video vs. the slide image by moving the splitter bar in the Viewer Window as shown below.
