1 Release Notes Fiery S450 65C-KM Color Server, version 1.0 for 65C-KM copier This document contains information about Fiery S450 65C-KM Color Server software version 1.0. NOTE: This document uses the term Fiery S450 to refer to the Fiery S450 65C-KM Color Server. The term copier is used to refer to the 65C-KM copier. Installation and Setup Remote Desktop If your Fiery S450 does not include a Fiery Advanced Controller Interface (FACI), use Remote Desktop Connection to remotely manage your Fiery S450. Use the following instructions to enable or disable the remote desktop access on the Fiery S450. NOTE: Windows XP includes Remote Desktop Connection by default. TO INSTALL REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION SOFTWARE ON A WINDOWS 2000/SERVER 2003 COMPUTER 1 Download the user software utility from Microsoft at: The Welcome page appears. 2 Click Perform additional tasks and then click Set up Remote Desktop Connection. 3 When the Installation Wizard starts, follow the on-screen instructions. 2 Page 2 Creating a new Remote Desktop Connection Once you enable the Windows XPe-based Fiery S450 to allow remote connections and install the Remote Desktop Connection software on a Windows user computer, you can use your remote user computer to connect to the Fiery S450. To create a new Remote Desktop Connection, see Configuration and Setup. Printer drivers installed with SMB To transfer installed options to the printer driver when the user installs the printer driver with SMB, the administrator must click OK/Apply on the Printer Properties Installable Options tab in the printer driver on the server. AppleTalk is not available If you change Network ports, you must reboot the Fiery S450 to make AppleTalk available. User Authentication When User Authentication is enabled, a public account must be created on the Fiery S450 in order for a public user to copy and scan. The user name is public and the password is public. For more information about creating user accounts, see Configure Help. Printing Banner and poster printing The printer driver custom size range is 100x148mm to 330x1200mm. However, the actual maximum paper size the Fiery S450 can print is 330x487mm. Consult your service representative about printing banners and posters. Composite Overprint and Two-Color Print Mapping If you select the Composite Overprint and Two-Color Print Mapping print options for a job, the Fiery S450 must reprocess the job every time you print the job. Printing variable data jobs When you select Create FreeForm1 and Use FreeForm1 from the printer driver, click OK instead of Apply from the VDP tab. Duplicate Auto Select settings The Paper Feed option in the Mac OS X printer driver has duplicate Auto Select settings. These settings are identical. You can choose either one.

3 Page 3 Paper sizes Some paper sizes may display differently in the Mac OS and Windows printer drivers. For example, if you print a job from a Mac OS X computer, the ISO B4 paper size is displayed as B4, and ISO B5S is displayed as B5S in the printer driver. See the following table: Windows ISOB4 ISOB5S B5 B5S 8 1/2x11 Tab Mac OS B4 B5 JB5/B5(JIS) JB5 9x11 Envelope Mac OS X custom paper sizes The Mac OS X printer driver does not prevent you from entering incorrect values for custom paper sizes. The range for custom page sizes is mm and mm. Create FreeForm1 and Use FreeForm1 If Two-Way Communication is enabled in the printer driver, 100 options are available for Create FreeForm1 and Use FreeForm1 print options. Booklet printing If you print a saddle booklet job with finishing options, you must set Page Order to Reverse for the job to print correctly. Orientation override Some applications, such as Adobe PageMaker on Mac OS, may not apply Orientation Override correctly to landscape jobs or apply Finishing options correctly. In these instances, the Fiery S450 does not recognize that a document is actually landscape. This causes jobs specified as duplex Top-Top to print as Top-Bottom, and jobs specified as Top-Bottom to print Top-Top. Also, stapling and punching options specified for your job may not be correct. Avoid using Orientation Override from applications in which this occurs. Interrupt Copy while Printing Two interrupt settings are available for the Fiery S450 from the copier: Stop Immediately WhenCurrentComp If you select Stop Immediately, the interrupted copy cannot use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Some finishing options, such as stapling, will not work, because it is possible that pages of the current job might be stacked in the middle stacker. Only simple platen copies are available in this interrupt mode.

4 Page 4 If WhenCurrentComp is selected, the interrupted copy can use the ADF. This mode also allows finishing options like stapling, because the current job stops printing in between copies. NOTE: The Fiery S450 sends print jobs as Page Mode, whereas breaks in between copies cannot be recognized from the copier. The copier stops the current job immediately in spite of the two Interrupt Copy while Printing settings. Specifying tabs per set from the copier touch panel You cannot specify tabs per set from the copier touch panel. Without this information, tabs cannot be inserted correctly from Mixed Media or Compose when you use the Paper Catalog. Booklet Back Cover and P1 Tray 1 Specifying Front or Back for Booklet Back Cover and P1 Tray 1 for Booklet Cover Source prints the job with some blank pages. Mixed Media Cover Page Mode If you select Printer s Default for Back Cover Page Mode for your job, the job will not print with the specified Back Cover settings. As a workaround, select a setting for Cover Page Mode instead of Printer s Default. Minimum and maximum Custom page sizes If you specify minimum Custom Page size values (100x148mm), your job prints 1mm smaller than the size that you specify. If you specify maximum Custom Page size values (330x487mm), your job prints 7 9mm smaller than the size that you specify. As a workaround, use the Scale option to fit your image to the maximum printable width. The maximum printable width for the Fiery S450 is 318mm, regardless of length. Canceling Hole Punch settings at the copier touch panel You cannot cancel some Hole Punch settings at the copier touch panel if your job also uses Staple settings. Duplex FreeForm jobs with Text Graphic Smoothing If you specific a duplex FreeForm job with Text Graphic Smoothing set to On, the job prints, but not in duplex mode. Printing SRA4 jobs If you send an SRA4-size job from Microsoft Word, Excel, or Adobe Acrobat Reader, and SRA4 paper is not loaded in the copier, a message appears on the Activity Monitor requiring you to load SRA4S paper. Load SRA4 paper in the copier and continue to print the job.

5 Page 5 Printing custom page-size jobs If you print a custom page size wider than 324mm to the Stapler Finisher, you must choose the Sub Tray as the Output Tray. Otherwise, the job stops at the copier and will not print. Mac OS folding option Folding options are not supported with A4 and Letter-size paper, even though these settings are available from Mac OS computers. If you select A4 or Letter for jobs with Folding options from a Mac OS computer and print your job, a paper jam occurs. WebTools Accessing WebTools with Safari from Mac OS X To access WebTools with Safari from a Mac OS X computer, you must enter the Fiery S450 internet address as Rebooting If you make changes from the Configure WebTool, sometimes rebooting is not necessary. Date and Time setting in the Configure WebTool When you change the Time Zone for the Date and Time settings from the Configure WebTool, the changes may not reflect correctly after rebooting. As a workaround, reset the Date and Time settings without setting the Time Zone, and then reboot. Conflicting settings for Paper Color and Paper Weight Do not select Non white for the Paper Color and g/m2 for the Paper Weight from the Configure WebTool. Setting Controller User Authentication from the Configure WebTool The Configure WebTool does not allow you to enable Fiery S450 User Authentication. As a workaround, clear Allow user to print without authentication and do not add printing privileges to the guest group. Doing this will not allow the public user to print. If you clear Allow user to print without authentication and add printing privileges to the guest group, the public user can print. Viewing the Docs Webtool after reboot If you cannot view the Docs WebTool after you reboot the Fiery S450, close your browser and reopen WebTools to view Docs. Paper Weight option If you select Printer s Default setting for the Paper Weight option from Configure/PDL/PS settings, you may receive error messages when you print your job. As a workaround, avoid using the Printer s Default setting for the Paper Weight option from the Configure WebTool.

6 Page 6 Backup and Restore does not return certain Setup options to default settings If you select Backup Fiery Settings from the Configure WebTool, the following Setup options do not return to the default settings: Network Setup Ethernet Speed IPX/SPX WINS Server Certificates Scan Printer Setup General PDL VPS Cancel Processing Upon Mismatch If you select the Configure option Cancel Processing Upon Mismatch, the job is not cancelled as specified. As a workaround, from Mismatch, select Cancel and not Suspend. Virtual Printers Virtual Printers with Mac OS X If you print a job with a virtual printer from a Mac OS X computer, the job may not print with specified printing options. However, if you print the job with a virtual printer from a Windows computer, the job prints as specified. Help Help files The Help files for the Fiery utilities are developed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.5 and later. If you use browsers such as Safari or previous versions of Internet Explorer, the Help files may not display properly. With Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer, the Help files might not display or display properly in the following situations: If your browser uses a pop-up blocker, it might block the Help files. If this happens, temporarily disable your pop-up blocker to display the Help file.

7 Page 7 If your browser has the advanced Internet option enabled to display notifications about script errors, it might display a warning window before displaying a Help file page. To avoid the warning window, clear the Display a notification about every script error option on the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box. A warning message might also appear in the Status bar, but the content of the Help file is not affected by this error. Mac OS X Saving PDF or PS files When you set Image Shift with duplex settings, save the file as a PDF or PS file, and then print the file, the job prints single-sided without the Image Shift settings. If you print with the settings from the driver without saving the file as a PDF or PS file, your job prints with the correct settings. Resolving print option conflicts in the Mac OS X v10.4 printer driver When you change print options in the Mac OS X v10.4 printer driver, specifically in the Printer Features pane, the print option conflicts are not resolved appropriately. For example, to select a setting for the Booklet Maker print option, the Duplex (2-sided Printing) print option must be set to On before the Booklet Maker print options are available for selection. The Booklet Maker print options are dependent on the Duplex (2-sided Printing) print option. To resolve the print option conflicts in the Printer Features pane, use the following procedure: TO RESOLVE PRINT OPTION CONFLICTS IN THE PRINTER FEATURES PANE 1 Select a pane other than the Printer Features pane. For example, if you were in the Printer Features pane, select the Summary pane. After you refresh the Printer Features pane, there is a mismatch between the selected Feature Set group and the print options that are displayed. For example, if the last Feature Set that you changed was Image Quality 1, it is now displayed with the print options for the first Feature Set, such as Finishing 1. 2 Reselect the Feature Set group (for example, Image Quality 1) to refresh the print options displayed. 3 Select the appropriate print options and print the job.

8 Page 8 Hot Folders v2.x on Mac OS 10.4.x Files submitted to Hot Folders v2.x on a Mac OS 10.4.x may not be recognized as a proper file format, even though the file is correct and valid. This commonly occurs if the files are in a network folder that is accessed via the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). This does not occur if the files are in a network folder that is accessed via SMB. As a workaround, set all submitted Hot Folders files with permissions to Read and Write or Read. If your files are on the network, move them to your local computer, change the file permissions, and then resubmit the files to Hot Folders. If you are working from a Mac OS computer, you must first unlock and change the file permissions. Save the new file attributes as unlocked, or change the file back to locked, and then save the attributes. If the files are on your local computer, review and modify file permissions as necessary, and then submit the files to Hot Folders. Mac OS X Hot Folders file filters If file filters do not display in your Mac OS X Hot Folder, install Adobe Acrobat Distiller and open it at least once to activate the preference file. Remote Scan version 5.3 and 5.4 on Mac OS X To quit Remote Scan version 5.3 and 5.4 on a Mac OS X computer, use your mouse to close the Remote Scan application window. You cannot quit the application by exiting the main menu or by pressing Command+Q. Scanning Scan to SMB To Scan to SMB, you must type your log-on name as domain_name\user_name or workgroup\user_name. When you enter the file path for Scan to SMB, type only your shared folder name when you specify the file path. You do not need to type / or \ at the beginning or the end of the file path. Command WorkStation Access levels In Command WorkStation, Windows Edition v.4.4 Help and Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition v1.2 Help, access privileges for the operator are described incorrectly. In Command WorkStation, Windows Edition v4.4, the operator has access to all Command WorkStation functions except Server Setup, deleting the Job Log, and changing password setup. The functions with operator access include aligning trays, rebooting and restarting the server, clearing the server (except for the Job Log), printing information pages, and font management.

9 Page 9 In Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition v1.2, the operator has access to all Command WorkStation functions except clearing the server and clearing the Job Log. The functions with operator access include rebooting and restarting the server, printing information pages, and font management. Printing Groups The Printing Groups feature is not supported, although it is described in Command WorkStation, Windows Edition Help. Printing Groups has been replaced by User Authentication. For information about User Authentication, see Configuration and Setup and Print Options. Rush Printing or Print Next jobs are output after Suspend Printing jobs Rush Printing or Print Next options do not affect printing order while a job is in Print Suspended status. The job selected for Rush Printing or Print Next are output after Print Suspended jobs. Waiting to Print jobs with Rush Printing and Print Next Rush Printing and Print Next options are not applied to Waiting to Print jobs. Print Summary If you select a job from the Command WorkStation Hold queue from a Mac OS X computer, select Print Summary, and then print, the Print Summary document does not print. Cannot specify trays for Paper Catalog Paper Catalog from Command WorkStation does not display Trays. You can only assign trays from Tray Association, not the Paper Catalog. Merging a single-sided job with a duplex job The Fiery S450 does not support merging a single-sided job into a duplex job. The following combinations for merging are supported: Duplex job and a duplex job A single-sided job and a single-sided job Changing Right-Left Binding If you change Duplex settings to Right-Left Binding from the Summary tab from Job Properties in Command WorkStation, Duplex settings are cleared and the job prints on one side. As a workaround, send your job with the specified Duplex settings to Command WorkStation and avoid overriding the Duplex settings from Command WorkStation.

10 Scale value If you log on to Command WorkStation with Administrator privileges, select a job and open Job Properties, and then click the Summary tab and click Layout/Scale or Scale to Fit, a conflict message appears. If you click OK, another conflict message appears. If you click OK again, the scale value is changed to 25% and you cannot change this value. Paper sizes in Paper Catalog are different than paper size in the printer driver Some paper sizes display differently between Command WorkStation Paper Catalog and the printer driver. For equivalency information, see the following table. 11 Page 11 Applications Microsoft Word Printing a booklet job from Word If you cannot print a standard booklet Letter job (11x17 print size) from Microsoft Word, use the following workaround: NOTE: The following example uses a Letter booklet job with an 11x17 print size. However, this workaround can also be used on a 5.5x8.5 booklet job printed on 8.5x11 (Letter), an A4 booklet job printed on A3, and an A5 booklet job printed on A4. 1 Create an original 8.5x11S document. The document must be short edge feed (SEF). 2 From your application, choose Print from the File menu. 3 In the Zoom area, choose 11x17 from the Scale to paper size menu. 4 Click Properties and specify the following: Paper size: 11x17 Duplex: Right&Left Binding BookletMaker: Saddle-Left Binding Page Order: Reverse Fold: Multi Half Fold Stapling: Center 5 Click OK. 6 Click OK again to print the document.

12 Page 12 Importing a Booklet Word.prn file into Command WorkStation Another workaround for printing a booklet job from Word is to save the Word document as a.prn file and import the file into Command WorkStation. 1 Create an original 8.5x11S document. 2 Choose Print from the File menu and select Print to File. Leave all printer properties as the default. 3 Save the file to your desktop. 4 From Command WorkStation, import the.prn file to the Hold queue. 5 Right-click the file, select Properties, and then specify the following options: Paper size: 11x17 Duplex: Right&Left Binding BookletMaker: Saddle-Left Binding Page Order: Reverse Fold: Multi Half Fold Stapling: Center 6 Print the file. Scale to Fit Selecting Scale to Fit for you job from Microsoft Word may not print your job in the specified size. As a workaround, make sure that the printer driver Scale to Fit option and the Microsoft Word Scale to Paper Size option both use the same settings when you print your job. Tray and Paper Association Tray and Paper Association is a feature available from Command WorkStation that allows you to assign a copier tray with a paper catalog entry. Assigning media to a tray When you load media on the copier, use Tray and Paper Association to define the media assigned to your print engine trays. Paper Catalog filters the entries shown for each tray by the paper attributes reported from the Fiery S450.

13 Page 13 TO ASSIGN MEDIA TO A TRAY 1 In the main Command WorkStation window, choose Server > Paper/Tray Association. If you are logged on with Administrator privileges, you can also go to Server > Paper Catalog> Tools > Paper/Tray Association. All installed trays are displayed in the main Tray and Paper Association window. 2 Place your cursor over a tray to display the tray association details. An unassigned tray displays unassigned. A tray that is assigned displays a summary of the paper catalog entry. 3 Click a tray from the list on the left. All available entries are listed for that tray. If the tray does not recognize any paper catalog information, the entire paper catalog list is displayed. 4 Select one paper catalog entry. 5 Click OK. Monitoring media status in a tray If your copier supports reporting media levels in each tray, you can check the status from the Tray and Paper Association window. TO MONITOR MEDIA STATUS IN A TRAY 1 In the main Command WorkStation window, choose Server > Paper/Tray Association. Each tray displays a percentage amount of the media loaded. 2 Click Cancel to close the window and not apply any Tray and Paper Association changes. Troubleshooting: Job prints with wrong media Check to make sure that the correct Paper Catalog entry is associated with the correct print engine tray. If a Paper Catalog entry associated with a tray is not updated when the media in the tray is changed, the job prints with the loaded media. Check to make sure that the desired paper catalog entry assigned to your job has not been deleted.
