3 Introduction C These release notes provide information about the new 4.15 firmware version for all models of the Trimble GPS Pathfinder ProXRT receiver. Please read these release notes carefully. WARNING If you continue to upgrade to this version of firmware you will be required to use: - Trimble TerraSync software version 5.00 or later - Trimble GPScorrect extension for ESRI ArcPad software version 3.14 or later - Third-party software based on the Trimble GPS Pathfinder Tools SDK version Failing this, you will not be able to connect to this receiver. Once this firmware has been uploaded onto your device you will not be able to revert to a previous version. For more information contact your local Trimble representative. The new 4.15 firmware version is free of charge to all existing ProXRT receiver customers. Trimble recommends that all customers with entitlement to the field software versions listed above should upgrade their receivers to the new firmware. New Features and Changes The following changes are available for your GPS Pathfinder ProXRT receiver. New firmware version Firmware version 4.15, with the following improvements: H-Star positions initialize faster at greater ranges and in tougher conditions than with firmware A receiver running firmware version 4.15 from a single base station on the Internet provides more reliable accuracy with long baselines. Under tree canopy, GPS signals may be heavily attenuated. NMEA The following changes are available to customers who have also purchased the NMEA option: NMEA GGA output now uses a Beacon Reference Station ID. On some Beacon sites, two transmitters provide backup. The Reference Station ID is available in all the RTCM message headers. GPS Pathfinder ProXRT Receiver Firmware Release Notes 3

4 The ProXRT firmware used the Station ID in the NMEA GGA message, which referred to the Beacon site. It now uses the Reference Station ID, which refers to the GPS receiver generating the corrections. Reference Station ID has been added below the Station Name in the web interface. An issue which occasionally caused a NMEA GGA output to contain the wrong Quality Indicator when it was generating an OmniSTAR HP position solution has been fixed. Part of the fix was contained in the HP 5.14 firmware, which is included in this update. OmniSTAR This release includes the following OmniSTAR library versions: HP/XP Firmware Version is HP 5.14 VBS Firmware Version is VBS 2.09a A greater margin has been added to prevent the position solution switching between OmniSTAR HP and VBS and back again. Known issues When activating an OmniSTAR subscription on the GPS Pathfinder ProXRT receiver series using the Terrasync software (Setup / Real-time Settings / Integrated OmniSTAR), Trimble normally recommends that you set the Service to the service you are trying to activate, for example HP+G2. Currently, for the HP service only, Trimble recommends that you set this to Auto for OmniSTAR subscription activation. Upgrading to the 4.15 firmware version This section describes how to upgrade your GPS Pathfinder ProXRT receiver to the 4.15 firmware version. 1. Download the firmware upgrade file to an office computer: a. Go to the Support page of the Trimble website ( b. Click the link for GPS Pathfinder ProXRT Receiver. c. Click Downloads. d. Click v GPS Pathfinder ProXRT Series, GPS Firmware to download the upgrade file. e. The File Download dialog appears. 5 2. Connect the receiver to an office computer: a. Download the WinFlash utility to the office computer. b. Install the WinFlash utility on the office computer. c. Connect the receiver to the office computer. d. Connect the ProXRT receiver to the power supply provided with the receiver. e. Connect the power supply to a suitable AC power outlet. f. Using the yellow Lemo cable provided with the receiver, connect the DE-9 connector to the COM port on the office computer and the Lemo connector to the ProXRT receiver. 3. Upgrade the firmware: a. On the office computer, browse to the location where you saved the WinFlash file, and double-click to install the utility. b. Select Start / All Programs / WinFlash / WinFlash to start the utility. 6 The following dialog appears: d. Select Load GPS software and click Next. The following dialog appears: e. 7 The following dialog appears: f. Click Finish The upload and installation of the firmware starts. Once the utility has rebooted the receiver, you can exit the utility. The receiver is now upgraded. GPS Pathfinder ProXRT Receiver Firmware Release Notes 7
