1 Connecting Your Computer to a TV or Audio Device NOTE: Video and audio cables for connecting your computer to a TV or other audio device are not included with your computer. Cables may be purchased at most consumer electronics stores. The composite TV-out adapter cable is available for purchase from Dell. Your TV has either an S-video input or a composite video-input. Depending on what type of is available on your TV, you can use a commercially available S-video cable or composite video cable to connect your computer to your TV. For a TV with only a composite video-input, you must also use a composite TV-out adapter cable, which is available from Dell. The audio on the side of the computer enables you to connect the computer to your TV or audio device, using a commercially available audio cable. NOTE: See the diagrams at the beginning of each subsection to help you determine which method of connection you should use. When you finish connecting the video and audio cables between your computer and your TV, you must enable your computer to work with the TV. See "Enabling the Display Settings for a TV" on page 37 to ensure that the computer recognizes and works properly with the TV. 2 4 Plug the single- end of the audio cable in to the headphone on your computer. 5 Plug the two RCA s on the other end of the audio cable in to the audio input s on your TV or other audio device. 6 Turn on the TV, turn on any audio device that you connected (if applicable), and then turn on the computer. 7 See "Enabling the Display Settings for a TV" on page 37 to ensure that the computer recognizes and works properly with the TV. Enabling the Display Settings for a TV Your computer may have either a video-controller card or a video controller on the system board (known as an integrated video controller). See the following subsection that corresponds to the video controller installed in your computer. Video-Controller Card NOTE: Ensure that you properly connect the TV before you enable the display settings. 1 Click the Start button and click Control Panel. 2 Click Appearances and Themes. 3 Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Display. 4 Click the Settings tab and click Advanced. 5 Click the Displays tab. 6 Click the upper-left corner of the TV button to enable the TV. 7 Click OK. 5 Integrated Video Controller NOTE: Ensure that you properly connect the TV before you enable the display settings. 1 Click the Start button and click Control Panel. 2 Double-click the Intel (R) GMA Driver for Mobile icon. 3 If you want to use only a TV without using the computer display or any other display options: a b In the Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator window, click TV. Click Display Settings and ensure that the settings are correct. If you want to use a TV and the computer display at the same time: a In the Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator window, click Intel (R) Dual Display Clone and ensure that one of the devices listed is a TV. b Click Display Settings and ensure that the settings are correct. 4 Click Apply to view the new settings. 5 Click OK to confirm the settings change. 6 Click OK to close the Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator window.
