Results from research conducted on how these tools were used at IBM: 88% of those who sent a broadcast said that they had first tried other methods before broadcasting including Asking colleagues (50%) Searching the web (44%) Using question search (26%) Regarding answers to their questions 64% reported receiving direct answers to their questions 25% reported being directed to a web page or document 10

11 Persistent Chat Room Features 11 Provide dedicated chat rooms that persist transcript text over long periods of time. Allow users to find and manage the chat rooms in which they participate. Help users easily identify when activity is taking place in important chat rooms user participation and unread content in the transcript. Alert users when keywords of interest are in discussion in the chat room. Create a FAQ list of important pieces of content related to the chat room, emerging from the transcript discussion. Optional anonymous usage. Access from a web page UI or the Sametime rich client chat room as a browser window or Sametime rich client window. Integrate chat rooms in the Sametime tabbed chat user interface.
