3 Introduction Thank you for choosing a Nexus retail demonstration system. You can be assured that every Nexus sales aid is built to the highest standards, as we engineer our equipment to have a close to 0% failure rate. Over the years it has become apparent to us here at Nexus that no matter how well we engineer our equipment, it is the total system including installation thats determines how reliable any one installation will be. poor installation 99 times out of 100 can be blamed for a system failure. So to ensure your system performs reliably for years to come, please take some time to read through this installation manual. 8PL pplications s with all of our equipment your 8PL /V source demonstrator is designed to be very flexible. It can be used as a stand alone source demonstrator, or integrated in to a full Home Theatre demonstration system. Control Options The simplest way to control the 8PL is with Push Button selectors mounted in close proximity to the stock being demonstrated. We have two types of Push Buttons, the first is a large Illuminated gaming machine type designed to be mounted on a vertical fascia. These require a 25mm diameter hole to be drilled. The second type is mounted on a black anodised aluminium angle bracket, designed to mount under a shelf. Both these switches are connected to the 8PL via 4 core telco cable and RJ11 connectors. The 8PL can also be controlled via our proprietry data stream There are a number of control options that can be used here, ranging from our single product group selector to our fully optioned NEXtouch LCD touchscreen panel. Please contact us for more information on these options. pplications s a stand alone unit the 8PL can switch up to 8 /V sources through to one Video Monitor and/or Home Theatre system. Up to 10 8PL s could be linked to give switching of up to 80 /V sources. The 8PL s output can also be connected to one of our /V distribution amplifiers, allowing demonstration of the selected source on a number of different Televisions, or connected to another 8PL running in reverse to allow selection of indivdual televisions. The 8PL is ideal as the source switching arm of a full Home Theatre demonstration system. This system would comprise switching for mplifiers, Main speakers, Rear speakers, Sub-woofers and Centre speakers - the options are limitless. 3

4 Installation Mounting the 8PL ll our switching equipment is designed to be mounted as close as possible to the equipment to be demonstrated. This minimises the amount of cable used, lowering the total cost of installation. So it is our suggestion that this is taken into consideration when designing cabinetry for display purposes. Mount the 8PL in a position close to the display product but out of view of the public if possible. Ensure that if mounting to a plaster wall, cavity plugs of some description are used, this will ensure the 8PL stays put. Making Connections When choosing /V cables to be used for the installation, be sure to select a cable of reasonable quality construction. This will ensure long term reliability, as some sales staff have been known to be quite relentless when changing product in a system. When connecting any Video or Digital signals, 75 Ohm cable must be used. Be sure to provide strain relief to all cables connected to the Nexus equipment, cable ties and cable tie fixings of some description are a must. Make the bus connections first. These are the connections to the TV monitor or any other Nexus equipment in the system. When connecting Nexus Data, only use the supplied data coax. This cable has special characteristics, a normal audio lead will not be reliable (refer pge 5). Note: if you are installing a single 8PL with Push Button selectors, no data connection is required. Next proceed to mount the Push buttons if being used, and connect these to the 8PL (refer pge 7). Finally make the connections between the product being displayed and the 8PL, ensuring that the cables are clipped to the product shelving so they are not lost behind the cabinetry (refer pge 6). For the finer details of system connection, refer to the diagrams on the following pages. Please ensure that all cables are run in a neat orderly fashion. This will ensure easier servicing in the event of a cable being damaged. It also will ensure your customers do not get the impression that Home Entertainment equipment is complicated to connect. The amount of cables required in a demonstration system is much greater than in a singular system. 4
