Virtuoso software Information Technology FAQ Purpose This document answers frequently asked questions about the VENTANA Virtuoso image and workflow management software and optional image storage

2 Virtuoso software Information Technology FAQ Purpose This document answers frequently asked questions about the VENTANA Virtuoso image and workflow management software and optional image storage server, including information on installation, implementation and on-going support. The content of the FAQ provides a starting point for in-depth technical discussions between our company, your personnel and your IT staff. Introduction Use this FAQ, in conjunction with the materials provided by our Digital Pathology Product Specialists and IT Solutions Architects, to understand how the Virtuoso software or image server will integrate into your environment. Direct any questions, comments or concerns to your IT Solutions Architects or IT Application Engineers. 2

4 Section I PREREQUISITES Section I - Prerequisites The Virtuoso software is a web-based image management application that delivers complete digital pathology solutions from image viewing to customized reporting to expand pathologists workflow capabilities. The Virtuoso software is transformative pathology software that orchestrates the workflow around the digital slide, from the moment the slide is scanned until the slide image is viewed, the results are reported and the final image stored. We recommend that your local IT team manage the Virtuoso software operating environment, and that the Roche Digital Pathology Support team be responsible for regular maintenance of hardware, operating systems, patching and health monitoring per your support contract agreements. What are the installation requirements for the Virtuoso software and/or image server? The Virtuoso software and/or image server requires the following for normal AP laboratory use: The VENTANA iscan HT* or the VENTANA iscan Coreo scanner, to generate scanned glass slide images for use with the Virtuoso software or for image archiving. Please see your digital pathology specialist or iscan IT FAQ brochure for more information on this requirement. 5 Section I PREREQUISITES Section I - Prerequisites The Virtuoso software requires a LIS (Laboratory Information System) for generating physician, patient, client site, user and case information (either integrated LIS or supplied SLIS (Simple Laboratory Information System) What is the Virtuoso software and how does it work together with the optional image server? The Virtuoso software is a web-based application housed on a server in your IT data center. The Virtuoso software is used in conjunction with the VENTANA iscan HT or iscan Coreo scanner. An optional external image server may be used for data expansion and/or image archiving purposes, and can stand alone without the use of the Virtuoso software. The server(s) connect to your over TCP/IP connections. The Virtuoso software is accessed via a web browser such as Internet Explorer. What are typical deployment architectures of the Virtuoso software and/or the image server? The Virtuoso software is scalable to fit your lab s requirements. See the previous page for an example of a simple single-site deployment. Examples of multiple-site architectures are shown below. 6 Section II HARDWARE Section II - Hardware What are the Virtuoso software and image server hardware specifications? The Virtuoso software and image server share the same specifications, with the option of either a rack or tower form factor depending on your IT environment needs. Does the Virtuoso server include a warranty? Yes, the Virtuoso server and image servers come with a three year warranty, with next business day support, parts and on-site labor. Is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) recommended for the system? Yes, HP recommends only UPS units based on Sine Wave output for APFC (Active Power Factor Correction) PSUs. For example, an APC Smart-UPS X 750VA would provide adequate protection for the HP server. Can we use our own site s standard hardware provider? May we use our own server? You may use your own hardware and server, provided it conforms to the minimum specifications required by Roche. While Roche can guarantee functionality of the Virtuoso software on this server, Roche cannot make any claims about performance. For optimal performance, Roche recommends using our validated servers. At this time Roche does not recommend the use of virtual machines. 8 Section III OPERATING ENVIRONMENT Section III - Operating Environment What system maintenance is required for the server(s)? System maintenance is performed by your IT personnel. What components are required for remotely accessing the Virtuoso software or the image server? CareGiver remote support software is used to access and provide support through HTTPS (port 443). Additionally, your IT department may provide a remote desktop connection to the Virtuoso software/image server through port 3389 via VPN. The remote desktop connection software is native to Windows operating systems (XP and above). Are any special Windows components required to use the Virtuoso software? No. What is the best way to view images? The best way to view images is to connect to the Virtuoso software through a web-based browser on a high-speed. What is your policy on Windows updates? Automatic Windows updates will be turned off by default and should remain off. If there is a Windows critical update that is required by your IT department, your IT personnel may perform this patch. Who owns the operating system licenses (or others)? For capital purchases, all operating system licenses are owned by your lab. Under the rental option, Roche owns the license until the end of the term. Licenses for the Virtuoso software are on an annual per-site basis. WebEx licenses for real-time collaboration require an additional purchase. When permanent image storage is near maximum capacity, what are our options to add more hard drive space? When the time comes for expanding storage, you may contact your account executive to explore your storage requirements and Roche storage product offerings. Currently, we offer a 3 Tb hard drive that can expand the primary Virtuoso server. We also offer 7 Tb, 21 Tb and 43 Tb NAS ( attached storage) options for secondary storage through EMC as an OEM partner. What are the Windows account requirements for installing the Virtuoso software platform onto the Virtuoso server? The Windows account requirements for the Virtuoso software include: It may be a local or domain account The account requires local administrative rights for installation and upgrade For support reasons, we recommend a non-expiring account with a non-expiring password (optional) There must be a remote access method to the server for future support Once the Virtuoso software is installed and the service is started, an administrator does not have to be logged in for end users to have access. 8

9 Section IV BACKUPS AND MAINTENANCE Section IV - Backups and Maintenance Where are the images stored? Images will be initially stored on the Roche scanner workstation (temporary) and then copied to an image server or the Virtuoso software (long term storage). The Virtuoso software may be configured to permanently delete images after a report is generated (to help maintain free space). Please check with Roche support if you have any questions about the long term storage of your images. How many images can I store on 1 Tb? Image size is based on both the chosen scanning magnification of the slide and the tissue area scanned. Based on a 20X scan of a 15x15 mm tissue area, the general approximation is 2500 scanned images per 1 Tb. Are the images encrypted on the workstation or image server? No, your IT department is responsible to ensure your is not compromised. At a minimum, the scanner and image server come with pre-installed anti-virus software. What is the recommended backup schedule for the image server? We do not offer a backup solution. Vendors like HP, EMC or Dell have various backup solutions which work with file-based backup procedures. Once a full backup of the image server is performed, it is recommended that incremental backups be performed during non-peak hours (either daily or weekly). In what data format are images stored? The VENTANA iscan HT slide scanner may be configured to create TIFF or BIF file types. The iscan Coreo workstation may be configured to create files in one of three available file types: TIFF, JPEG2000 or BIF. The BIF format is optimized for scanning and viewing speed. 9

10 Section V SOFTWARE Section VI Section V - Software What programming language is the Virtuoso software written in? Java Developer Toolkit 7. What database system is used in the Virtuoso software? Oracle 11G. What third-party software is required with the Virtuoso software or image server? Your server will be fully configured after installation. If your local IT department requires additional third-party software to comply with local policies and procedures, please let your account executive know for further discussion. May we use anti-virus software other than the preinstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 solution? The following anti-virus software has been certified for use with our systems: Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 Microsoft Security Essentials 2010: Avast Endpoint Protection Suite Plus: 7.0 McAfee VirusScan Enterprise: 8.8 Requests for supporting other anti-virus software can be submitted to your account manager for future consideration. Why not use a virtual machine in place of physical servers? The supplied physical server has been validated to meet performance specifications and provides a more robust environment (stability, security and scalability) for the demands and needs of the Virtuoso software. If you choose to provide your own server, and it meets or exceeds minimum specifications required by Roche, it should also support a stable environment. Section VI - Network What speeds are recommended for the Virtuoso software and/or image server? Internally, within your, we recommend Gigabit internet connectivity (minimum of 100 Mbps). Externally, outside of your, we recommend a dedicated T1 line [1.54 Mbps]. What speed do I need for the connection between the slide scanner workstation and the server? We recommend Gigabit interconnectivity between the scanner workstation and the server. Can a wireless be used? Currently, the Virtuoso software and image server may only be used on a wired. However, for accessing the Virtuoso software via a web client, a wireless may be used as long as you are on the domain. Can the Virtuoso software and/or image server be placed onto a domain? Yes. Do the servers need to be placed on the domain? No, the servers can operate in a workgroup as long as the servers are able to resolve the host names via DNS. 10

11 Section V NETWORK Section VI - Network Do you recommend the use of static or DHCP IP addressing? One static IP address per server is highly recommended. The servers can utilize static or DHCP IP addressing schemas as long as the servers are able to resolve host names via DNS. How many IP addresses and data ports are required for each Virtuoso software or image server? Each server requires at least one IP address and at least one data port. Does the Virtuoso server or the image server work over the WAN? Yes, you may connect to the Virtuoso software or image server where there is an Internet connection (and access is granted, such as through a VPN or through the firewall via a URL subdomain address). Can the image server be placed outside of the Virtuoso software? Yes. If the image server is placed outside of the Virtuoso server LAN, Roche will work with the local IT department to ensure functionality and communication between the systems. How does the Virtuoso software authenticate users on the domain? The Virtuoso software authenticates users within the application and does not require, nor have the capability to use, Microsoft Active Directory or other single-sign-on solutions for user authentication. Virtuoso software has its own single sign-in solution, Apache 2DS, that can be implemented to meet specific security requirements, such as: Password strength - Password should be more than seven characters - Password should not contain a username - Password should be a combination of at least two of the following types: (uppercase, lowercase, number) Expiration - 90 day expiration - New password must be created If a user has three unsuccessful login attempts, they will be locked out of the system. Can the Virtuoso server be made publicly accessible outside of the lab or hospital? Yes, Roche will work with your IT department to configure the server for HTTPS access. Your IT department may be required to purchase a SSL certificate or other option. 11
