TECHNOLOGY EDITION Network Edition Fast Facts
QUICKREADS TECHNOLOGY What is the Network Edition? Designed to work over a school s Local Area Network (LAN) or a district s Wide Area Network (WAN), QuickReads Technology Network Edition will run on workstations in one or several school buildings that are connected to a centralized, dedicated server. The program supports districts and schools with one or more computers in a classroom as well as those with groups of computers in a single area, such as a computer lab, library, or technology center, in any combination. QuickReads Technology Stand-Alone Edition is currently a workstation-based software program that needs to be both installed on and operated from every individual computer using the Library Disc (or Content CD ) in the CD-ROM drive. The Network Edition consists of the QuickReads Technology software on your local dedicated server and client workstations, as shown in Figure 1, or on a central dedicated server and on client workstations in multiple schools, as shown in Figure 2. LAN Figure 1 WAN Figure 2 How is the Network Edition different from QuickReads Technology Stand-Alone Edition? The Network Edition adds an extensive management component where teachers and other administrative users can set up and manage classes and reading groups, make assignments, and create performance reports. The Network Edition is designed to support the use of the QuickReads Technology Edition across multiple computers and classrooms throughout the district or school, and includes features such as: Content management tools, providing the ability to distribute multiple levels of QuickReads across the school network User account and class management tools for collecting, measuring, and managing performance data via the web-based network manager accessible from any school- or district-networked computer Tools to instantly create classroom-, school-, and district-level reports from the web-based Network Manager The ability for teachers and administrators to listen to every student recording The ability for students to return to the QuickReads lessons from any client workstation Licensing that allows for concurrent use rather than limiting QuickReads Technology to a specific number of client computers or restricting the number of enrolled students
NETWORK EDITION What are the district-level benefits of having the Network Edition? Student Benefits Students will be able to access the program from any computer that is designated a client workstation for QuickReads Technology Edition, ensuring a greater degree of flexibility across the school. Benefits include the following: Students will no longer need to return to the same computer to use the QuickReads Technology Edition. Students may be assigned and may read any level of content (A through F). Student progress, including critical fluency measures like rate and accuracy, is stored for access across the network in real time, enabling teachers and reading specialists to quickly tap into this information in order to better support individual student needs and inform instruction. Student audio files of every recording not just the last recording of each passage are stored on the server. Audio files can be saved in student portfolios or exported. Administrator Benefits The Network Edition of the QuickReads Technology Edition provides teachers, reading specialists, and building and district administrators more manageability of administrative functions as well as access to student data through specialized reports. Benefits include the following: Client software can be downloaded from the server for installation, which saves time and eliminates the need to have the installation CD on hand. Library Content is pulled from the server, thus eliminating the need for Library CDs to be stored on the CD-ROM of each client workstation. Teachers may assign students any QuickReads level and are not limited by the number of Library Content CDs they own. Teachers and reading specialists can set up classes and reading groups and can make assignments from a list of available content titles and levels. The new network manager provides teachers, reading specialists, reading assistants, building supervisors, and building and district administrators access to student data through specialized reports via an easy-to-use web browser interface from any school- or district-networked computer. No additional work is required of teachers or reading specialists to provide class- or schoollevel reports that can be viewed by an administrator. District administrators may be provided an account to access the Network Manager and view data of a district, school, class, or student.
REPORTING OPTIONS Reporting options available at the student, classroom, and school levels The QuickReads Technology Network Edition reports offer a wealth of information on fluency, comprehension, accuracy, and time spent on task. Most reports can be used to track performance over time. Report results can be filtered by the following demographics: Free/Reduced Lunch, Gender, IEP, LEP, Migrant Status, or Race/Ethnicity. Use the at-a-glance matrix below for an overview of the available report types and levels (student, class, and school). For examples of specific reports, see the selected sample reports that follow. REPORTS MATRIX Student Class School Fluency Words Correct per Minute Report X X Problem Words Report X X X Progress Report for a Single Passage X X Time on Task Report X X X Trend Line and Goal Report X X X Usage Report X X X Usage Report Review your school s usage (time spent using the software) by grade, class, or student Drill down for detailed information on individual student usage Break down total usage into time spent reading, listening, and answering questions Student Total Usage Report Problem Words Report Identify the most frequently mispronounced words for one or more students, or for a class or grade Use report results to customize vocabulary lessons for the day or week Problem Words Report

FAST FACTS How do I upgrade from the current Workstation (Stand-Alone) Edition of QuickReads Technology Edition to the Network Edition? We honor a generous trade-up program for Version 2 and Version 3 Stand-Alone Edition customers of QuickReads Technology who want to upgrade. Please contact your sales representative for more information. Please note: Only student performance data that have been stored on workstation computers using QuickReads Technology Stand-Alone Edition Version 3 can be transferred to the server-based Network Edition. Directions for this can be found in the Network Manual Program Administrator s Guide. How do I help my teachers get started using the QuickReads Technology Edition? We have a variety of options for teacher and administrator training. On-site, hands-on training led by an instructor for your teachers or key personnel using a train-the-trainer model is most effective to achieve a successful implementation of QuickReads Technology Edition. There are additional trainings for administrators as well as WebEx -delivered sessions. Contact your local sales representative to discuss the various training options and prices. Can I receive technical support from your highly trained and qualified technicians once my first year of technical support expires? Technical support service is available for an annual fee based on the number of licensed users. Support is provided for any user, including teachers, literacy coaches, instructional technology coaches, and network technicians. Our technical support is provided by our highly trained technicians via phone or . We guarantee resolution of all issues to your complete satisfaction. This annual fee also covers phone support and training for your designated QuickReads Technology Program Administrator by our account management team. They can assist with tasks such as user importing or exporting and new school-year procedures. Additionally, your annual fee qualifies your school to receive free product updates (which include point releases and patches but not new version releases). Can a field engineer come back to my school after the initial installation? Absolutely. You may purchase daily field-engineering services to provide on-site technical support for your QuickReads Technology server and client workstations. To assist you, our engineer must be provided access to the server and client workstations in addition to login and password information for each computer and for the server. Your sales or customer service representative can put you in touch with our account management team for more information.
