This product line includes Converged Network Analyzer (CNA), Adaptive Path Controller-Enterprise (APC-E), Adaptive Path Controller-Internet (APC-I), VoIP Monitoring Manager, Chatter, and the CNA Server. The CNA product line can be configured to do any or all of the following: improve the Internet experience of your customers, by speeding the return of packets being downloaded from your web servers improve the Internet experience of your local network users, by optimizing the routes used to deliver their requests to external web sites improve the speed and reliability of your Internet VPN connections optimize your cost of service, by distributing traffic load among your service providers according to individual ISPs billing rates (see polling usage interval in the CNA Command Reference Guide) and traffic thresholds selection of service provider (SP) for a given subnet on its analysis of measured traffic, not on statistical assumptions (load balancing) or the predefined rules of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). selected service provider link is observed to be experiencing significant delays that degrade its ability to deliver packets to a specific subnet, the product line can if you allow it update your network routing tables so that your routers will use a different service provider for traffic to that subnet. Issue 6 May

6 Introduction configure the system to favor the lowest-cost or the least utilized service provider. use the system in report only mode, in which traffic is measured and analyzed but routes are not actually asserted to your edge routers. Hardware requirements The Avaya Converged Network Analyser (CNA) products run on multiple servers. For a complete listing of certified hardware platforms, see the CNA Release Notes at support.avaya.com. System requirements The Web client in the CNA products require Sun s Java Plug-in 1.5 with update 11. For information about installing the plug-in, see Java Version in Web Interface chapter of the CNA Operator Guide. Other requirements will vary depending on whether you will be using the CNA products to optimize web or VPN traffic. 9 Typographic Conventions Typographic Conventions Table 2 shows the typographical conventions that are used in this book: Table 2: Typographic conventions Convention Courier type bold italics Meaning The Courier type face is used to denote one of the following: Text as displayed on a monitor Command syntax examples. Bold text denotes command keywords (words that must be entered exactly as shown). Italics can mean any of the following: filenames book titles command argument names and values new terms not commonly understood <> Words enclosed in angle brackets should be replaced by user-specific data. In the following example, the words userid and password should be replaced by actual user ID and password values: Login: <userid> Password: <password> [ ] Square brackets are used to denote command line arguments that are optional. 1 of 2 Issue 6 May

10 Introduction Table 2: Typographic conventions (continued) Convention Meaning {} Curly braces enclose a range of choices for a required argument. When used within square brackets, curly braces indicate that if you choose to set the optional argument indicated by the square brackets, then you must choose one of the choices enclosed in the curly brackets. In the example below, the curly brackets indicate that either in or out is always required for the ip access-group command: ip access-group <name> {in out} In the following example, the version argument is optional for the snmp-serverhost command, but if it is set it must be either 1 or 2c: snmp-serverhost <host-id> [traps inform] [version {1 2c}] A vertical bar separates multiple choices among arguments. In the following example, the vertical bar indicates that the first argument of the clear prefix command can be either a prefix in standard, dotted-decimal format ( /n) or the keyword all: clear prefix {<prefix> all} [routes-only] The second argument the keyword routes-only is enclosed in square brackets because it is optional. 2 of 2 10 CNA Installation Guide, Version 4.1

Ethernet connections are not yet required, (but see the note in Ethernet cables). The cables are not required because the device does not permit telnet access until you enter a minimum number of required commands on the command line. To boot the device: 1. Turn on the AC power switch on the front of the chassis. The system displays a series of start-up messages. 2. Verify that the boot sequence ends with the following message and prompt: Copyright (c) Avaya Technologies, Inc. All rights reserved. Unauthorized access not permitted Press Enter to Continue CNA> 3. No default user or login is required. When the system completes the boot sequence, you have access to the command line through the console port. 4. To verify that all CNA processes started properly run the following command: show medic all Medic is also a CNA process that starts and monitors other CNA processes on services in the system. The show command displays a summary of those processes. Use the optional keyword detail to obtain more detailed information. For more information about the show medic command syntax, see the CNA Command Reference Guide. For more information about the medic process and services, see the CNA Appendices. Minimum configuration for network connectivity Once the device is rack installed and booted, minimum device configuration is necessary for network connectivity. To enable telnet access after the device boots: 1. Create a local account, with the username command. Privileged-level access is required. 2. To create a local account, execute the enable command. There is no default enable password). Issue 6 May

22 Required Hardware Setup 3. To assign an IP address and a subnet mask to the management module, run the interface and ip address commands. 4. Create a default route with the ip route command. 5. Establish an enable password with the enable password command. The following example shows a local account with the following information: User name: avaya Password: avaya IP address: to the management module (the port labeled ethernet 0); assign an address as the default gateway Subnet mask: to the management module the port labeled ethernet 0); assign an address as the default gateway Enable password: privileged enable configure terminal username avaya password avaya interface ethernet 0 ip address end ip route enable password privileged 6. After you create the local account, you reboot with the valid addresses for the default gateway and the management module IP address and the subnet mask, run the copy run start command. The network connectivity configuration is not permanent until you run the copy run start command. If you reboot the CNA server before you run the copy run start command, all basic configuration is lost. 7. To confirm the configuration, disconnect the console terminal or the laptop. Then use the telnet protocol to connect to the IP address that you configured for the management module. Alternatively, you can disable telnet and enable the SSH protocol. For more information about access and security, see the CNA Command Reference Guide. 22 CNA Installation Guide, Version 4.1

28 Installation 5. At the CD-ROM Main Menu, use your arrow keys to select the Converged Network Analyzer Server Install option. 6. Use the arrow keys to highlight OK. 7. At the Reformat menu, use your arrow keys to select Yes.! WARNING: If entering yes at the Reformat menu results in the following message, your server may require the SATA drive BIOS change. For more information regarding the BIOS changes, see Modifying the hardware. 8. When the installation is complete, remove the CD-ROM and close the CD-ROM drive. Press Enter to reboot the server. 9. At the prompt, begin configuration of the server through the command line interface. A default user or login is not required. 10. Verify that all CNA processes have been properly started by executing the following command: WARNING: show medic all Medic is also a CNA process that starts and monitors other CNA processes on services in the system. The show command displays a summary of those processes. Use the optional keyword detail to obtain more detailed information. For more information about the show medic command syntax, see the CNA Command Reference Guide. For more information about the medic process and services, see the CNA Appendices Guide. For more information on how to configure the CNA server, see the CNA Fundamentals Guide. 28 CNA Installation Guide, Version 4.1

29 Booting the device Booting the device Before you boot the device, the device must be rack installed and the console management port must be properly connected to a terminal server or a laptop. Ethernet connections are not yet required, (but see the note in Ethernet cables). The cables are not required because the device does not permit SSH access until you enter a minimum number of required commands on the command line. For more information about the medic process and services, see the CNA Appendices.Minimum configuration for network connectivity Once the device is rack installed and booted, minimum device configuration is necessary for network connectivity. To enable SSH access after the device boots: 1. Create a local account, with the username command. Privileged-level access is required. 2. To create a local account, execute the enable command. There is no default enable password). 3. To assign an IP address and a subnet mask to the management module, run the interface and ip address commands. 4. Create a default route with the ip route command. 5. Establish an enable password with the enable password command. Issue 6 May

30 Installation The following example shows a local account with the following information: User name: avaya Password: avaya IP address: to the management module (the port labeled ethernet 0); assign an address as the default gateway Note: Note: In some instances, the physical port labeling does not match the port assignment from the software. To verify your ports, see Port Discovery on page 32. Subnet mask: to the management module the port labeled ethernet 0); assign an address as the default gateway Enable password: privileged enable configure terminal username avaya password avaya interface ethernet 0 ip address end ip route enable password privileged 6. Then use the SSH protocol to connect to the IP address that you configured for the management module. 30 CNA Installation Guide, Version 4.1

31 Ethernet cables Ethernet cables Use standard Ethernet cables to connect the management (Ethernet 0), the engine (Ethernet 1), and the USTAT (Ethernet 2) ports to your network. If you want to use the endpoint flow collection (EFC) module, you also need to connect Ethernet 3 to your network. Supported platforms port usage The CNA software supports five hardware configurations. These hardware configurations may not include an Ethernet 0 port. The software uses the lowest Ethernet port available for the required network access between the Ethernet port on the management module and your network. The lowest Ethernet port, either 0 or 1, is the management interface. The additional interfaces are configurable based on the specific network requirements. Following are examples of required or appropriate configuration of the remaining interfaces: The EFC monitoring mode requires a dedicated interface. This interface needs to be enabled, but does not require an IP address. In network environments where a private, dedicated management subnet, or where the measurements and management functions should map to separate networks. When directly attaching specific measurement USTATs to a physical router ports on a separate public IP network. Note: Note: This does not apply to BGP and SNMP functionality. Issue 6 May

32 Installation Port Discovery In some instances, the physical port labelling does not match the port assignment from the system. Use the CLI to discover the correct port usage. Use the following procedure to discover the ethernet ports: 1. Plug one ethernet cable into an ethernet port on the server. The most likely port for ethernet 0 will be one of the motherboard interfaces so choose the lowest numbered or labeled port. This could be labelled port 1 by the manufacturer. Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into an ethernet switch or hub port. 2. Using the serial console login, enter the enable mode. CNA# configure terminal CNA(config)# interface ethernet 0 CNA(config-if)# no shutdown CNA(config-if)# end CNA(config)# interface ethernet 1 CNA(config-if)# no shutdown CNA(config-if)# end CNA(config)# end 3. Enter the show interfaces command. 4. Disconnect Ethernet cable to confirm port assignment with show interfaces output. 5. Verify which Ethernet interface link is down. 6. Continue to verify each Ethernet interface by repeating Steps 1 through 4. Note: Note: In this example the auto speed and duplex are used by default. 32 CNA Installation Guide, Version 4.1

33 Port Discovery 7. Match the interface of the unplugged cable to the physical port on the server. It is recommend that you label or make note of each port on each CNA server. 8. Reconnect all ethernet cables into the appropriate ports. The following tables include the device configuration ports and how the system may use each port. Important:! Important: Use this information for the devices specified in each table. For all other platforms, use the procedure Port Discovery on page 32.
