5 1 Overview This document provides information regarding the functionality and contents of the Awaiba USB3 Evaluation Board. It includes instructions for operating the board and description of the hardware features. A list of the board features are presented next: FPGA Memory 256 MB DDR3 SDRAM 128 MB NOR Flash ROM Communication Xilinx Spartan-6 XC6SLX150-FG900 FPGA USB 3.0 I/O Connectors Two 120 pins Hirose board-to-board connector for sensor interface Four 20 pins Hirose Pin Header for general-purpose I/O Others On-board LED driver capable of controlling 16 external LED's DAC converter with eight independently programmable outputs Through an Interface board user can connect up to: 4 Cameras NanEye 2 Cameras NanEye GS 5/12
6 2 General-purpose Description 2.1 Sensor Interfaces This USB3 board can be used with either the NanEye or the NanEye GS sensors. Figure 1 shows the adapter board. Figure 1: Sensor Interface Board In (1) there is the connectors to plug either one or two NanEye GS, in connector J8 and J9. In (2) there is the connectors to plug up to 4 Nan Eye sensors, from J5 to J8. 6/12
7 2.1.1 NanEye The NanEye sensor has to be connected in any of the J5 to J8 connectors, and with the orientation as in figure 2: Figure 2: NanEye Connector 7/12
8 2.1.2 NanEye GS The NanEye GS sensor needs to be plug in both J8 and J9 (in the stereo case), or in either of them, in case of just using one sensor. Figure 3 shows how to plug the connectors: Figure 3: NanEye GS Plug 8/12

10 4 Evaluation Software The evaluation system comes with the USB evaluation unit that receives data from the FPGAModule with one or more sensors and the windows software to run the camera on a PC in real-time. Image display and storage is provided. It has the following features: Possibility to adjust white balance automatically Possibility to save directly to compressed.avi streams of either the processed or the raw data Possibility to save snapshots in PNG and in PGM (saving the 10 bit raw data) Possibility to acquire black and white gain masks Dynamic Gain and Offset switching Load in runtime a new configuration and change the sensor/board to receive images This software also contains some Image processing algorithms: Colour Reconstruction Gamma Correction (only for colour version) Pixel linear correction Adjust colour saturation Adjust brightness An API interface to the data stream is available for easy integration in existing display systems and evaluation of image processing algorithms.
