1 1993 Specifications CSJ s & SPECIAL SPECIFICATION 1432 Computer Equipment 1. Description. This Item shall govern providing, for the Department s use, desktop microcomputers, laptop microcomputers, printers, and an internet service provider (ISP) at the location designated by the Engineer in accordance with this Item and the details shown on the plans. All materials furnished, assembled, fabricated or installed under this item shall be new and in strict accordance with the details shown on the plans and in the specifications. The complete system including all system cards and peripherals shall be FCC Class B device certified. System components shall be of the latest design meeting or exceeding the minimum requirements listed in this specification. The system shall include all hardware, software, documentation, and any other materials necessary to fully utilize components, even if not specifically noted in this specification. Any and all device conflicts shall be resolved to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Peripheral components shall be of the latest design meeting or exceeding the minimum requirements listed in this specification. Peripherals shall include all hardware, software, documentation, and any other materials necessary to fully utilize the peripheral component, even if not specifically noted in this specification. 2. Equipment. The equipment will include, at a minimum, the following features: (1) Desktop Microcomputer. (a) Tower type case, including At least 2 spare full height drive bays after all the components required by this specification have been installed. A reset switch and a disk activity indicator are preferred but not required. (b) Intel Pentium 4 processor or better (1.5 GHz minimum) (c) 1 GB minimum of DDR RAM (d) Two Spare PCI expansion slots. At least 2 spare PCI expansion slots shall be available on the motherboard after all the components required by this specification are installed. (e) 40 GB Hard Drive and controller (ATA-100 or better)

2 (f) CD-RW drive, with minimum speeds of 16x10x40 (write x rewrite x read), installed in the case (g) 3.5 in. floppy disk drive (h) Keyboard with the following features: 104 standard keys (includes MS Windows defined keys) Either PS-2 or USB interface. Integrated touchpad pointing device Ergonomic design is preferred (i) 17 in. color SVGA monitor (0.26 mm dot pitch) or, if specified in the plans, a 19 in. flat panel color SVGA display (1280x1000 lines) (j) Display Adapter (video card) including the following features: 32 MB of RAM minimum. MPEG capability or other common video format. Hardware assisted video acceleration technology utilized by the display shall not hinder the optimal performance of the display adapter. (k) Sound Card with the following features: 16 bit wavetable samples at a minimum sampling rate of 44 Hz. Two speakers included (provide 2-piece speakers if specified on the plans.) (l) Built-in I/O ports At least 2 USB interfaces 10/100 Ethernet Network Interface integrated onto motherboard. At least 1 RS-232 serial port, capable of 19,500 baud rate. At least 1 parallel port 56 kbps fax/data modem (compatible with Hayes AT command set) integrated onto motherboard or provided as a PCI card (2) Laptop Microcomputer. (a) Color display including the following features: Display area measuring at least 14 in. diagonally Screen intensity control Active Matrix (TFT) technology (b) Intel Pentium III processor (833 MHz min.) or faster (c) 256 MB minimum of DDR RAM (d) Internal Hard Drive, 30 GB minimum, and controller (ATA-100 or better) (e) Integrated CD-RW drive, with minimum speeds of 16x10x24 (write x rewrite x read), installed in the case

3 (f) Integrated 3.5 in. floppy disk drive. The floppy drive may be swappable with the CD-RW drive. Alternatively, the floppy drive may be supplied on an integrated docking station. (g) At least 2 Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMIA) slots (PC card slots) (h) Integrated Keyboard with the following features: 81 standard keys, minimum Integrated touchpad pointing device Sound Capability with two speakers integrated into the case (i) Rear or side mounted I/O ports as follows: VGA video port At least 2 USB ports At least 1 integrated RS-232 serial port or a PCMIA port replicator One parallel printer port 56 kbps fax/data modem compatible with Hayes AT command set and meeting the requirements of Special Specification, Dial-up Modem 10/100 Ethernet Network Interface (j) The computer shall operate in ambient temperatures from 50ºF to 95ºF. (k) The computer shall be capable of operating from the following power sources: 120V, 60Hz AC. An AC line cord shall be included. An internal battery The battery shall be capable of operating the computer for a minimum of 3 hours under normal use. The battery shall be recharged while the computer is operating from the AC power source. The battery shall be removable. A spare battery and an external battery charger shall be included. (3) Printer. (a) Laser technology printing (b) Minimum print speed: 15ppm, black, on 8.5 x11 paper (c) Print resolution: 1200x1200 DPI (d) The printer shall accommodate the following paper sizes: 8.5 x11, 8.5 x14, 11 x17 (letter, legal, & ledger). The printer shall accommodate the following envelope sizes: from 3.5 x 3.5 to 8.5 x14. (e) Compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System

4 (f) The printer shall automatically detect and process the latest Hewlett-Packard (HP) printer control language (PCL) and Adobe PostScript (PS) commands. Hewlett- Packard Graphic Language (HPGL) shall be provided. (g) At least 4 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) shall be provided in the printer. The RAM may be reduced to 2 MB if the printer uses host based processing or graphic device interface (GDI) technology. Use of host based processing or GDI technology shall not prevent processing print commands from DOS based applications. (h) At least 30 fonts shall be resident in the printer. At least 25 fonts shall be scaleable. (i) The printer shall be provided with at least sheet minimum paper tray. One paper tray shall accommodate letter size paper. Manual feed capability shall be provided. (j) The printer shall include at least 1 USB port and at least 1 bi-directional parallel port. Capability for installing an Ethernet or token ring network adapter shall be provided on the printer. The general notes will describe the type of adapter card, if any, that shall be provided. One parallel printer cable shall be provided with this item. (4) Internet Service Provider. Must be capable of accessing the Department s Citrix Metaframe Server at Austin Headquarters utilizing Department furnished Citrix client software. Broadband internet connection is required, either by wireless or DSL. Dial-up access is acceptable only if broadband connection is not available. If so, dial-up service must consistently provide no less than 48 kbps connection speed. Connection may be provided by dial-up lines, DSL, or ISDN in the quantity needed to provide simultaneous connection of the Contractor and the Inspector. 3. Scope of Work. The Contractor will furnish the following software: MicroSoft Windows XP or greater MicroSoft Office XP Professional or greater Winfax Pro, version 9.0 or greater Winzip 8.0 or greater Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or greater Netscape Navigator 4.78 or greater MicroSoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater McAfee Virus Scan or greater The Contractor shall deliver the specified hardware, with specified software installed, configured, tested and operational, prior to the commencement of any work on the project. All software shall be of the latest edition available unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. In the case of needed repairs for the hardware, the Contractor shall repair or replace the hardware within a reasonable time frame. The Contractor is responsible for maintaining the

5 equipment for the duration of the project. Reimbursement will not be made for maintenance costs for the first three years after work begins. Reimbursement will be made on a force account basis after the three-year period. The Department may install state-owned applications on the microcomputer. If so, the Contractor will be required to sign an agreement authorizing the use of state-owned software on contractor-owned equipment. The Department will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the state-owned applications. The Department will remove all state-owned applications before the microcomputer may be removed from the project. Unless otherwise shown on the plans, a dedicated dial-up modem line, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), or cable connection will be provided for the Desktop Microcomputer, Laptop Microcomputer, or ISP furnished. If a DSL or cable connection is chosen the Contractor will be required to provide PC to DSL/Cable modem connectivity. Material to be provided in good working order upon complete installation of Item 504, Facilities for Field Office and Laboratory. Unless otherwise shown on the plans, the Contractor will provide an ISP throughout the duration of the project. The ISP should have a local access number and must be able to access the Citrix Metaframe server at Austin Headquarters. The Contractor must validate with the Department that a connection can be established by their chosen ISP. ISPs that utilize TCP/IP protocol should be capable of accessing the Citrix server. Contractor will furnish TxDOT with the local workstation administration password in order for TxDOT to perform any related support or maintenance on the workstation. 4. Measurement. This Item will be measured by each desktop microcomputer, laptop microcomputer, printer, and Internet Service Provider provided. 5. Payment. The work performed and materials furnished in accordance with this Item and measured as provided under Measurement will be paid for at the unit price bid for each major component of equipment or Internet Service Provider, and the complete complement of supporting equipment as shown on the plans and provided for in this Special Specification or as directed by the Engineer. The hardware, software, peripherals, and equipment shall be fully operational and tested. The price shall be full compensation for all equipment described under this Item with all cables and connectors, all documentation and testing and for furnishing all labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary for the equipment to remain operational. When a desktop microcomputer, laptop microcomputer, printer, or Internet Service Provider is provided, the phone, cable, or DSL service will not be paid for directly, but shall be subsidiary to pertinent bid items in the contract. In the event an ISP capable of access to the Citrix Server is not available via a local access number, the Department will establish a Force Account Item to reimburse the Contractor for long distance charges the Department incurs. The Contractor will be required to provide only 1 ISP for a contract

6 Payment will be made on the first payable monthly construction estimate after the computer equipment and the complete complement of supporting equipment is delivered, set up and deemed to be fully operational. At the conclusion of the contract, all equipment, excluding state-owned applications, shall remain the property of the Contractor
