5 Product Safety Product Safety Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Computer boards and components contain electrostatic sensitive devices. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage components. To protect the PCB and other components against damage from static electricity, you should follow some precautions whenever you work on your computer. Power down and unplug your computer system when working on the inside. Hold components by the edges and try not to touch the IC chips, leads, or circuitry. Use a grounded wrist strap before handling computer components. Place components on a grounded antistatic pad or on the bag that came with the component whenever the components are separated from the system. Only store the product in its original ESD-protected packaging. Retain the original packaging in case you need to return the product to MEN for repair. 20PX07-00 E Page 5

7 Legal Information Conformity MEN products are no ready-made products for end users. They are tested according to the standards given in the Technical Data and thus enable you to achieve certification of the product according to the standards applicable in your field of application. RoHS Since July 1, 2006 all MEN standard products comply with RoHS legislation. Since January 2005 the SMD and manual soldering processes at MEN have already been completely lead-free. Between June 2004 and June 30, 2006 MEN s selected component suppliers have changed delivery to RoHS-compliant parts. During this period any change and status was traceable through the MEN ERP system and the boards gradually became RoHS-compliant. WEEE Application The WEEE directive does not apply to fixed industrial plants and tools. The compliance is the responsibility of the company which puts the product on the market, as defined in the directive; components and subassemblies are not subject to product compliance. In other words: Since MEN does not deliver ready-made products to end users, the WEEE directive is not applicable for MEN. Users are nevertheless recommended to properly recycle all electronic boards which have passed their life cycle. Nevertheless, MEN is registered as a manufacturer in Germany. 8 Product Overview 1 Product Overview 1.1 Product Description PCI Express Mini Card to M.2 Adapter The PX7 is a PCI Express Mini Card designed for converting form factor PCI Express Mini to M.2. In addition, it converts PCIe x1 on the PCI Express Mini side into USB 3.0 featured on the M.2 side. USB 3.0 Extension for Box PCs Typically, box PCs from MEN are equipped with PCI Express Mini Card slots which support PCIe x1 and USB 2.0 but not USB 3.0. The PX7 extends the capability of the box PC families by enabling the use of USB 3.0 devices (i.e. LTE-Advanced Modem) in M.2 form factor. The PX7 also supports one SIM card integrated in the box PCs. Fit for the Future The PX7 is the ideal solution for LTE Advanced, as it supports transmission rates of up to 500 Mbit/s (Cat 11/Cat 12). Optionally, the PX7 is also available as a USB 2.0 solution for slower LTE modems (Cat 6). Conduction Cooling Option MEN also offers a conduction cooled version of the PX7 including an LTE modem for the use within box PCs. 20PX07-00 E Page 8

You can find the article number, design revision and serial number affixed to the PX7. Article number: Indicates the product family and model. This is also MEN s main ordering number. To be complete it must have 9 characters. Revision number: Indicates the design revision of the product. Serial number: Unique identification assigned during production. 12 Getting Started 2 Getting Started 2.1 Configuring the Hardware Check your hardware requirements before mounting the PX7. Modifications are difficult or impossible to do when the PX7 is mounted Installing an M.2 Card To install an M.2 card, the following steps are necessary.» Power down your system and remove the PX7 from the system.» Put the board on a flat surface.» Align the M.2 card properly at a 30 angle to the M.2 connector on the PX7. M.2 card Card connector 30» Firmly push the M.2 card down while plugging it in the M.2 connector on the PX7.» Fasten the card to the board from the top side using a M3x4 screw. 20PX07-00 E Page 12
13 Getting Started 2.2 Connecting and Starting You can use the following check list when installing the card in a system for the first time and with minimum configuration. The installation of the PX7 depends on the carrier board. Please refer to your carrier board s user manual before installing the PX7.» Power down the system and remove the PCI Express Mini Card carrier board.» Install the PX7 on the PCI Express Mini Card slot of the carrier board as described in the carrier board s user manual.» Insert the carrier board into the system again.» Power up the system.
