1 NISSAN CONSULT and Windows 7 OS Microsoft ends XP support April 8, 2014 Reference: NPSB/14-018a Date: April 1, 2014 Attention: Service, Parts and IT Manager If the CONSULT laptops in your service department are running OS (operating system), you need to determine if it can be upgraded to Windows 7 or you need to replace the laptop sometime within the next twelve to eighteen months (s should be replaced as soon as possible due to the lack of service parts and lack of hard drive space). Microsoft is discontinuing OS support on April 8, We have outlined below how this affects your service department s CONSULT laptop computers. CONSULT laptops 1. You may be able to update your CONSULT laptop computers to Windows 7: a. The following chart will help you determine if your CONSULT laptop will need to be replaced or can be upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. b. All ASIST TM, and CONSULT-III plus software will continue working on an XP OS and updates will still be provided and supported until further notice. c. CONSULT III software will not operate on a Windows 7 OS. Only C-III plus will be installed. d. CONSULT laptops using will no longer receive Microsoft security patches, updates or hot fixes after April 8, Unsupported and unpatched workstations will be vulnerable to security risks. Many independent software and hardware vendors are unlikely to support newer versions of applications for and this will inhibit your ability to continue working on new or current software and hardware. 2. How to identify if your CONSULT laptop is upgradable or not? Locate the bar-code label (Serial Number) on the bottom of your and match your CF Number to the following chart. Then check the column Can Migrate to Windows 7 to determine if your CONSULT is upgradeable. Sample label, your number may be different. Compare this number on your laptop with the serial numbers in the table. 1 NPSB/14-018a

Contact Bosch at , and order laptop part number To manage the distribution of CONSULT laptops for the Replacement Program, Tech-Mate will accept orders and provide an estimated delivery date based on current inventory status. Contact Tech-Mate at to place orders for replacement units. Please state that you are ordering a replacement for your current CONSULT laptop. Fulfillment will be determined by the availability of inventory. If you replace your CONSULT laptop, you may also need to purchase new Immobilizer security card. Windows 7 CONSULT laptops require the IC type card and adapter. The uses an SD card and adapter. See FAQs below to identify these cards. The new IC card and adapter is Bosch part number If your current CONSULT laptop requires repair, Tech-Mate will work with you on a repair cost, or attempt to expedite the delivery date for a new laptop to ensure dealers have a working unit. The repair loaner program will continue to operate throughout the Replacement Program. service part availability has become an issue and the Bosch Repair Center cannot guarantee parts will be available going forward. During the repair process, Bosch will notify Dealers if their unit cannot be repaired due to parts availability. 2. After receipt of your CONSULT laptop, go to then complete and submit the online request form. An ASIST TM installation package will be sent to the requester s attention. The package will consist of an ASIST TM USB and installation instructions for installation of ASIST TM and all applicable CONSULT software. Fulfillment timing will be determined by the availability of inventory. Orders must be placed using the online request form. ASIST TM telephone support will not accept orders. There is no charge for a software reinstallation request when replacing a CONSULT laptop. 2 NPSB/14-018a

3 3. To avoid a $100 USB return late fee charge, the ASIST TM USB must be returned within 10 days. A prepaid, FedEx return envelope is included with the reinstallation package. How to migrate your CONSULT MK4, MK5 laptop to Windows 7 1. You will need to purchase our upgrade kit that Microsoft specially prepared for this project. To order an upgrade kit, go to then complete and submit the online request form. An ASIST TM installation package will be sent to the requester s attention. The package will consist of an ASIST TM USB and installation instructions for installation of ASIST TM and all applicable CONSULT software. Fulfillment timing will be determined by the availability of inventory. 2. Orders must be placed using the online request form. ASIST TM telephone support cannot accept orders. The Windows 7 upgrade kit contains: A DVD set containing special Windows 7 upgrade software. (This is the only Windows 7 upgrade that will configure your CONSULT laptop to support CONSULT III plus diagnostic software). An ASIST TM USB and installation instructions for of ASIST TM and all CONSULT software. To avoid a $100 USB return late fee charge, the ASIST TM USB must be returned within 10 days. A prepaid, FedEx return envelope is included with the reinstallation package. The cost of the upgrade kit is $200, which will be billed on your NVA. This is a non-refundable purchase. The MK4 and MK5 upgrade kits are not interchangeable. The request form will allow you to order the correct kit or kits for your combination of laptops. You can use one kit for multiple installations on each specific model. If you have both MK4s and MK5s, you will need to order one kit for each model. We will begin shipping orders on May 1. You can submit your order before May 1 and they will be filled on a first-in, first-out basis. How to return your CONSULT Toshiba laptop back to Windows 7 64-bit OS: 1. Toshiba has a built-in product recovery that will return it to a Windows 7 64-bit OS system. Instructions can be found at a. Be sure to record your ASIST Sec Key. before running the recovery. 2. After return of your Toshiba to Windows 7 64-bit OS of your CONSULT laptop, go to then complete and submit the online request form. An ASIST TM installation package will be sent to the requester s attention. The package will consist of an ASIST TM USB and installation instructions for installation of ASIST TM and all applicable CONSULT software. Fulfillment timing will be determined by the availability of inventory. 3. Orders must be placed using the online request form. ASIST TM telephone support cannot accept orders. 4. 4 FAQ: CONSULT laptop transition to Windows 7 Q: What version of Windows is CONSULT III plus diagnostic software compatible with? A: CONSULT III plus software is compatible with and Windows 7, 64 bit. Q: What version of Windows is CONSULT III diagnostic software compatible with? A: CONSULT III software is only supported on a OS. Q: Can my CONSULT be upgraded from to Windows 7? A: The MK4 and MK5 models can be upgraded. Please see the table below to determine which model you have. If you attempt to upgrade a laptop listed as 'not upgradable', the CONSULT III plus software and some other applications will not function properly. Q: Can a CONSULT be upgraded from to Windows 8? A: it cannot. The CONSULT III plus diagnostic software is not yet compatible with Windows 8. Q: How do I recover my MK4 or MK5 after upgrading to Windows 7? A: The Windows 7 upgrade DVD is your new recovery disc set and should be stored in the event you need to perform a system recovery sometime in the future. Q: If my must be replaced, can I purchase a new laptop from a local vendor? A: All new laptops must be purchased directly from Tech-Mate. Q: If my must be replaced, can I purchase just a new laptop from Tech-Mate or do I have to purchase a full CONSULT diagnostic kit? A: You can purchase just a replacement from Tech-Mate. Q: If I replace only the CONSULT laptop, do I need to replace the security card? A: The CF-19 requires the IC type (looks like a credit card) security card. 5 Q: If my can be upgraded, what is needed to complete this upgrade? A: You will need to purchase our upgrade package. Go to then complete and submit the online request form. The upgrade package contains a DVD set with the Windows 7 upgrade and will configure it to support CONSULT III plus diagnostic software. The package will also contain an ASIST TM USB for installation of ASIST TM. The upgrade DVD is your new recovery disc and should be stored in the event you need to perform a system recovery sometime in the future. The ASIST TM USB will need to be returned to avoid an additional charge. Q: Where can I find detailed upgrade procedures for MK4, MK5 and Toshiba CONSULT laptops? A: These can be found at Q: If I choose not to upgrade my or CF-19, MK 2 and 3, and it fails, can it be repaired and ASIST TM reinstalled? A:. has discontinued repair parts and Nissan will no longer process ASIST TM reinstallation requests on these models. Q: I have a Toshiba R840 CONSULT laptop. Can I upgrade it to Windows 7? A: Toshiba has a built-in product recovery that will return it to a Windows 7 64-bit OS system. Please refer to the Toshiba Windows 7 upgrade instructions at for details. Q: I have a Toshiba R840 CONSULT laptop and will be returning it to its original Windows 7 configuration. How do I reinstall ASIST? A: After return of your Toshiba to Windows 7 64-bit OS of your CONSULT laptop, go to then complete and submit the online request form. An ASIST TM installation package will be sent to the requester s attention. The package will consist of an ASIST TM USB and installation instructions for installation of ASIST TM and all applicable CONSULT software. Fulfillment timing will be determined by the availability of inventory. Q: I have a docking station and/or CONSULT cart. Will the new MK6 operate on my old docking station? A: If you purchased your docking station and/or cart prior to December, 2009, the docking station is not compatible with models MK4, MK5 and MK6. (See table below to determine the model of your ).
