1 AFFILIATE FAQ: CNN NEWSOURCE UPGRADED VIDEO INTERFACE Updated July 7, 2015 The Big Picture Q: What is this about? *Updated* On July 11 th 2015, CNN Newsource will debut a new video experience. Clients who visit our website, newsource.cnn.com, to access video content will see a new user interface that is more intuitive to use. Users will begin to see the new interface estimated at around 5:00 am EST on Sat July 11 th, Q: Is this a new, different service than what I normally get? What do I have to do? Does this cost me anything? This is the same website you visit daily to access your CNN Newsource content. Same URL, same username and login, same link to access (i.e. the See All Videos link). More importantly, same great video and story content you have come to expect from CNN. You don t have to do anything to enjoy the upgraded interface. And best of all, this upgrade will not cost you anything. This is part of our continual effort to better serve you. That s why we say: Same great video. Better experience. Why is CNN Newsource updating the video interface of its website? We ve heard from our clients that they d like an upgraded video experience, and we ve listened. Our hope is that our new interface provides a more intuitive and time- saving way to get the videos you need. We know it takes a little time to get used to a new look on a website you use daily. However, we re confident that this new video experience will improve your workflow. Will this new video interface apply for server- based clients? This upgrade will only impact the web interface. Server- based clients will not experience any changes at this point. Affiliate servers will be updated in the future by Bitcentral on a station- by- station basis, with ample advance notification. The Enhancements Q: What exactly is being enhanced? Upon logging into newsource.cnn.com, and clicking See All Videos, the old display of our video elements will now be replaced with a clean, intuitive interface. This interface is more flexible and puts you in control of your experience. BEFORE AFTER

2 But wait, it s not just a prettier look there are lots of feature improvements too. Here are just some of the highlights: 1. No more Silverlight = No more broken video links! 2. Quick to navigate: Popular shortcuts and inline video previews are now at your fingertips. 3. More view layouts: You can choose between List, Thumbnail and Gallery views. 4. Flexible: Works on desktop and now, on ipad. 5. Better search: Categories now part of Advanced Search, alongside all the search functions like keyword, date range, You re finally getting rid of Silverlight?? Yes! We are moving away from Microsoft Silverlight to H264 for video playback. This will be a popular feature enhancement for a vast number of our web users. Previously, many users, especially for those who use Google Chrome to access Newsource, had a buggy video experience due to Chrome disallowing certain plug- ins, such as Silverlight. With H264, users will have a seamless video viewing experience, meaning no more blank video screens, no more frustrating technical interruptions, no more slowing down to download temporary patches just elegant, seamless instantaneous viewing so you can quickly scan the videos and get on with your workflow. But please note: you may still encounter Javascript issues if you visit our website using Google Chrome, which we are working to fix. You are strongly encouraged to use the following browsers for optimal experience. Windows OS IE version 10 and 11 Firefox Mac ios Safari version 8 Firefox Note: this only applies to desktop use, not ipad. *New* What happened to the Search and Categories sections that used to be on the left side of the page? Story Categories used to be on the left side of the screen in the old video interface. After reviewing user feedback and site analytics, we ve observed that Categories was more frequently used in conjunction with the Search function. So, the Categories is now part of the Advanced Search function, within the same view as other popular search functions like keyword, date range etc. This change created room to make the popular video Preview (also known as Mini Viewer ) a permanent feature in the List and Thumbnail views.

3 What else has moved around on the updated site? 1) On the Main Page, in the Thumbnail and List views, you ll now see a Preview pane to the right of the page. When a story is selected (the story box will appear in slightly darker blue), the story s video and metadata will appear in the Preview pane. This allows you to watch the video and scan the metadata without having to leave your search results. Just as important, you can quickly scan the script of the story, even copy and paste into your newsroom system. 2) On the Story Details popup, the function buttons at the top of the page are now part of the Action dropdown menu, which streamlines the tasks and provides a clean, uncluttered workspace. What is a sprite ; do you have little magical elves working inside the portal?? Well, sprite describes a fabulous new feature that allows you to scan a video very quickly so you can see the frames and jump straight to the section you want. How fast, you ask? Faster than real- time! This is not the same as scrubbing, which moves the video s actual timeline forward without you being able to see the frames. Content Has the content itself changed? Not at all. The same videos are available, in all the same formats you have come to rely on. Is this video section still powered by Bitcentral? Yes, CNN still partners with Bitcentral to provide the video portion of our website. You can still contact Bitcentral for technical support (contact info at the end of this FAQ) Search What are my search options? There are two search options: Basic and Advanced. In the Basic function, all you need to do is type in a keyword into the search box and click on the magnifying glass icon. To create more targeted search criteria, use the Advanced Search function. You can select multiple categories, search within a specific date range and more.

4 *New* Why am I not seeing as many search results as I expected? If you are expecting a lot more stories to be present in Oasis, most likely, your previous Advanced Search parameters are still filtering your results. Make sure to click the X in the Advanced Search box to clear out previous criteria; otherwise your selected options will continue to filter subsequent searches and skew your results. *New* When I close my browser, or log out and log back in, my Advanced Search selections are no longer in effect. What is happening? In the previous version of Oasis, we used a cookie to remember the last search you performed. This has been removed because our research shows that many users share logins within a newsroom, and when different users log in under the same credentials, they are not able to find a story, not realizing the previous user had selected a category or searched for a particular term. Views What s the big deal about the views? One of the biggest improvements with this upgrade is the three view options: List, Thumbnail and Gallery views. Aside from a more modern, clean and elegant interface, the view options are also more intuitive and faster to use. How? For one, you can preview the video and script right on the Main Page. Within the List and Thumbnail views, a Preview Pane is now prominently featured on the right side of the page, allowing you to quickly scan the video, script and metadata all at one glance. The Gallery View also features inline video previews so you can watch your video or move on with one click. Secondly, you now have options: pick which of the three views that suits your workflow and preference. You can even organize the columns within the views. In the List view, just grab your selected column header and move it into the spot where you want it. Voila! You can further sort within a column to organize the videos you want to see. Lastly, all the above applies to search results too. TIP: If you like the previous view before the upgrade, just select List view: this is the closest format to the previous layout. *New* Why can t I move columns in Thumbnail View? Although you can move columns around in the List View, it has been disabled in the Thumbnail View because Oasis is now responsive. This means if you change the size of your browser window, Oasis adapts to it. This allows us to now offer browsing functionality on the ipad. The only way to maintain the tight structure of

5 the Thumbnail View in all browser sizes was to remove the ability to move columns when using this View. *New* Can I make List or Gallery View my default View? At this time, Oasis is designed to default to the Thumbnail View. Allowing users to set their default view is a feature that is under consideration for future releases. Getting Video Can I still proxy edit on the site? Yes, and it s even easier than before! Now when you click on the story slug and the Story Details window appears, the Proxy Edit function is prominently displayed for ease of use. You can make one or several proxy edits to the same video, and download just the portions you need. Has the download feature changed? The Download Manager still works the same. To streamline your workflow, we have added the Actions link to the top right of the Story Details window. Click on Actions to see the options: Add to Request List or Request. The first time you request a video, you will be prompted to allow a Java applet to run in your browser. After you choose the download location, you will also be asked if it is OK to let Signiant run. You should check the Always trust content from this publisher box and then allow these two things to run. *New* Where is the Add to Request List button? Previously in Oasis, if you wanted to add multiple stories to your request list, you would find the Add to Request List at the bottom of the window. This has been moved under the Actions button. By default, the Actions button is greyed out as soon as you select a story with the checkboxes on the right, it will activate and you can choose Add to Request List or just Request if you want an individual story. What s the difference between Request and Add to Request List? Request will immediately download the chosen story to the selected destination. A new window will open and allow you to select the desired video formats and the download destination. You can request more than one format if desired. Add to Request List creates a list of stories to be downloaded. The download process will not begin until you execute it through the Download Manager. *New* In Request Manager, what is the difference between the checkboxes and the arrows to the right of my stories? The checkboxes are used to select which stories you want to download. The arrows on the right are used to highlight a story. Then highlighted story can be moved up and down the queue using the arrows to prioritize it in the download list or they can be deleted by clicking the x icon.

6 Does all this work on mobile now? Yes! At this time, the experience is best only on ipads. Note that you cannot proxy edit or download on mobile yet. 7 Does the interface remember my favorite settings? When you customize the columns that are displayed or the order that they are displayed in, these settings are retained. The last selection you made when you downloaded a file is also retained. The retention of these settings is based on several factors. This includes: The computer in use. Your account logon.
