1 NOTE: You will be switching back and forth between two sites. 1. Education.Weebly.com where you edit and create 2. Your site which is what the public will see (i.e., eesl521.weebly.com) Study before beginning these instructions. Create an Account 1. Go to 2. Under Get Started Now a. Type a Username, Password, and an address b. Click to accept terms of service c. Type the two words d. Click Sign Up 3. Fill out the Welcome to Weebly for education form. Click Submit. 4. Click Create a website 5. Click on the Site button. 6. Click on the theme you would like. You can change this later. Click the Choose button. 7. Click next to Use Subdomain of Weebly.com (this is free you do not need to purchase a domain) a. Type the name of your WQ site in the box. (You may use the username from Step 2.a) i. 2 to b. Click Continue 8. Watch the Weebly tutorial video entitled Surprisingly easy. 9. Click Build my site. 10. Click in the top right corner on the horizontal lines. Then click on Exit Editor. 11. Click Logout in the top right hand corner because I want you to practice logging in again. 12. Go back to a. Up in the very top right corner, put your username and password. >>log in 13. Close any windows that pop-up. Do NOT click Create a Website again. Just click the X to close that window. How to Edit a Site 14. After you log in to Weebly, you will see the websites you have set up. You can have two free sites (for example, one for teaching and a personal one). You also can have a blog in Weebly. 15. Next to the site you just created, click Edit. Start Building Your Website 16. Use the Design tab on the top to turn off the Social Icons (unless you want to connect this WQ to your Facebook and other sites), turn on or off the Search Box and Phone Number. 3 Add Pages 17. Click the Pages tab on top. a. Click on Home on the left and then on the right, under Page Name type Introduction. b. Then click on About on the left and type Task under Page Name. Then, I suggest clicking on Short Header for the Page Layout, but you may want to experiment with those. c. Click on Contact on the left and name it Process with the Short Header for Page Layout. d. Click Add Page on top left. Click Standard Page. i. Type Evaluation as the page name. 1. Use Short Header as the Page Layout (you can change these later). ii. Add another page. Title it Conclusion. Choose Page Layout. iii. Type another page. Title it Credits. Choose Page Layout. 18. Click Save & Edit How to Add Content to Pages 19. Click Build from the top tabs. 20. Click Introduction from your page menu. Mine is on the left, but depending upon which design you chose, it may be on the side. 21. The menu of items you can use is on the far left. If your screen is too small to see it, put your cursor over to the far left and it will become visible. 22. Click on Title and drag it over to the page. Then click on Image + Text and drag it below the Title. a. Click the big font Click here to edit. Type a title for this page which will be Introduction, so that students easily know what page they are on. b. Click the small font Click here to edit. Type your introduction or other information. c. 4 d. Option -- Click one time on the image. i. Click the Caption icon on the picture toolbar. ii. Type a caption. How to See Your Public Website 23. Click Publish in the top right. a. Do NOT click Continue on a window saying that your site name is available as.com b. Click on the URL to your site. click the X on that box and type your web address in a new tab. or you can 24. Return by clicking on the tab that says Weebly on your browser to return to editing your site. How to Upload a File (to Download) 25. Click on a page tab like Evaluation or Process. Add the Title and Image + Text as described above. Edit that Title, text and image as described above. a. Drag the File element and put it below the text. It says doc on the icon, but this works for PDF, PPT, small MP3 files as well as document files. NOTE: You may also choose the Document icon and drag that to the page. 5 26. Click where it says Click here to upload. a. Click Upload new File. Then click Upload a file from your computer. 1. Browse where your file is and then double click that file (image, PowerPoint, PDF, audio, video, or DOC) [NOTE: Free version will not allow uploads larger than 5 MB]. 2. After it is uploaded, change the file name. Click one time on the file on the page, then move up to the editor and type a new name under File Name. ii. Repeat this process for another file type on any page. iii. Click Publish and go to your site (refresh the page ) 27. Return to the Weebly editing site. How to Embed a YouTube Video 28. On any page, drag over the YouTube element. a. Then open a new tab in the browser. i. Go to YouTube and search for a video you like. ii. Copy the URL of the video. b. Go back to Weebly. i. 6 ii. Then paste the YouTube address in the box below YouTube Video URL. 29. Click Publish and refresh your site to see changes. 30. Go back to Weebly. How to Change Your Site Title 31. Click the Settings tab on the top. a. You can change the name of your site here or change your site address. b. Click on SEO on the left side. i. Type a description of your site and some keywords that will help a search engine find your site. c. Click Save. Next to each box. 32. Click Publish a. 7 33. Click in the top right corner on the horizontal lines. Then click on Exit Editor. a. NOTE: This closes the site, but it does not log you out of Weebly. 34. The Help page is excellent.
