1 Video Everywhere use Video Everywhere allows you to record videos from your webcam and post them to any area of the course that uses the text editor. This includes: Discussion Boards Items within your Course Materials Folder descriptions Comments within graded assignments or assessments. You can also reuse videos previously recorded with Video Everywhere or post videos you ve uploaded to your YouTube account. Use Video Everywhere to demonstrate instructor presence and promote student engagement. Put a face to the name in discussions, announcements, anywhere you can access the text editor. Video helps to engage students and establish your presence in the course. The tool is also available to students. 1. Click Recorder in the text editor and click Record from Webcam. 2. When prompted, click Sign in to YouTube. 3. Sign in to YouTube using your Google account. Click Grant Access to allow your Blackboard server to upload video on your behalf. Note: If your Google account is not enabled for YouTube access, you will receive a prompt to open a new browser tab and log in to YouTube. 4. After you log in to YouTube, create your YouTube channel to upload and store your videos. Navigate back to the Video Everywhere window and click Sign in to YouTube. Click Grant Access. 5. Click Record from webcam in the Blackboard text editor. 6. When you are prompted by Adobe Flash to enable the player settings, accept or agree. 7. Agree to allow the recorder to upload videos to YouTube. 8. Click Start Recording. When you are finished, click Stop Recording. 9. Click Upload to save your video on YouTube. 10. Click Insert to add the video to the content editor. You can choose between: - Play in place: Plays the video in the current location. Users can resize the video size to match the content. A placeholder appears in the content editor where your video will play for viewers. - Thumbnail: A small image of the video is displayed. Users click on the thumbnail to view the video in a new window. 11. Your video appears in your content item. It takes a few minutes to encode the video so it may not play immediately. You might even receive a "This video is unavailable" message. Wait a few minutes and try again.

2 Inline Grading Inline Grading allows you to place feedback and comments directly on a student paper in Blackboard. When you view a document submitted in an assignment, that document is converted to a format that is viewable inside the web browser. The converted document is displayed in a viewer on the Grade Assignment page. Formatting and embedded images of the original document are preserved. Supported document types that can be converted are: Word (DOC, DOCX) PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX) Excel (XLS, XLSX) PDF (PDF) use Inline grading streamlines the grading process; thus saving you time and effort. The tool allows you to "mark up" student submissions in Blackboard without having to download the submission, insert comments and upload to the Grade Center. Students see their graded paper in My Grades. There is no need to attach graded papers to a document grade. Access a student paper submission in an assignment in the Grade Center. 1. Review and comment directly in the document. 2. From the inline viewer toolbar you can zoom the contents of the document in or out, open the annotation tools menu to comment in the document, download the document and move from page to page. 3. Grade the submission from the inline grading sidebar. From here you can view the assignment details, the grading rubric and each attempt. You can type an overall grade and grades for each attempt as well as provide feedback to your students without leaving the page. 4. Click Comment in the inline viewer toolbar to expand the annotation tools. Select an annotation tool and comment, edit, highlight and draw in the document. Right- click on an annotation to remove it.

3 Post First Discussion Forum Option Post First is an option you can select in a discussion forum. With this option enabled, students will not be view all posts until they have made an initial post. use To promote student engagement and encourage students to post original ideas leading to a richer and deeper discussion. To enable the Post First discussion forum option, 1. Click on 'Discussions' in the left navigation panel. 2. Click on the drop down arrow to the right of a forum and choose Edit. 3. Enter the question in the description in Section 1: Forum Information. Note: When students encounter forums with the post first setting, a message tells them to create their own thread before they can view threads added by other users. Note: Students will be able to see the question in the description so that they can respond. Be aware that if your question is posted as a separate thread and you do not enter a question in the forum description, students will not be able to view the question. 4. In Section 3: Forum Settings, click the radio button next to Participants must create a thread in order to view other threads in this forum. 5. Click 'Submit'. 6. The forum now appears on the 'Discussions' page. Note the question in the forum description.

4 Blackboard Avatars Avatars are pictures uploaded by students or instructors that appear next to their activity in certain areas of the course. Once users upload their pictures, their avatars are automatically visible when they post information to the following areas: Discussion Board Course Roster Blogs, Wikis, and Journals use Use an avatar to put a face to the name to improve communication and collaboration. Avatars increase instructor presence and help students get to identify one another more quickly. Discussion threads, blogs and wikis are much easier to follow once Avatars are loaded, which improves student engagement. Avatars appear automatically once users set up their avatar. To set up an avatar, 1. In the Tools section within the NU Online Campus tab, click on "Personal Information." 2. Click Personalize My Settings. 3. Under "Avatar image" select "Use custom avatar image". 4. Click the "Browse My Computer" button to locate an image on your computer. 5. After you have selected a file, click "Submit. The image you have selected will be uploaded to Blackboard and used to represent you throughout the site.

5 Respondus LockDown Browser use Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that allows you to lock down the testing environment within Blackboard. To help ensure academic integrity. When students take a test using the LockDown Browser, they cannot print, copy, access other websites or applications, or close the test until it is submitted for grading. LockDown Browser Overview: 1. Modified toolbar: The toolbar contains only Back, Forward, Stop, and Refresh functions. 2. Test Mode: Tests are shown only in full screen view and cannot be minimized or exited until test is submitted for grading. 3. Disabled controls: All printing, function keys, and right- click menus have been disabled. 4. Links: Links will open in a new secure window and will not allow browsing beyond that page. 5. Blocked features/applications: The Start button (Windows), system tray, and menu bars have been removed. See detailed instructions at: lockdown- browser- 2/
