2 Before we begin Close all Parked Applications: If you are using ios 5 or above, other applications may be open in the background and some may be using memory or processor resources. To close them, double tap the Home button on your ipad. This brings up a list of all open applications. Swipe up to close them. If you find that the procreate is laggy close all apps and re start your ipad. Make sure you have downloaded and have signed in to dropbox.

3 If you have not already imported the landscape into your photo album download the photo from airdrop now. Note: Login or Sign into Unsplash the best royalty free photo sight. Note: The photo from Unsplash - Note: Make Sure Missy Calligraphy set is in your dropbox

6 Add Dropbox to your ipad icon dock and make sure Files icon is there too

7 Installing all of Calligraphy Brushes and Inserting Photo

8 1) Tap the plus icon (new canvas) in the gallery

9 2) Select screen size or Create Custom Size and then set to 2048 x ) Tap the plus icon in the gallery Note: If you were to set up your file to be print ready, select Create Custom Size and put in your canvas size in cm or mm. You will need to allow a bit more to your canvas size to allow for it to wrap around. Set your DPI to no more than 100. Large canvases will not need a high DPI. If your canvas is large you will notice you will have the ability to create less layers. The more memory you use for your canvas the less layers you will be able to create.

10 3) Tap the brush icon

11 4) Tap New Set 5) Type in Name for Set Calligraphy.

12 6) Slide up from bottom of ipad

13 7) Your ipad docker will come up 8) Long press the files dock and slide it up. it will become floating.

14 9) Release your finger

15 9) It will look like this. 10) Tap and hold the little grey line above location and select and slide it to the left.

16 11) It will look like this. 12) Tap Locations

17 13) Tap on Dropbox

18 14) Tap on Brushes

19 15) Tap on Missy Calligraphy Brushes

20 15) Tap on Select

21 16) Tap on Select All and deselect Chalkboard

22 17) Long press on one and all the selected will be shadowed

23 18) Without lifting a finger drag all the selected to the empty calligraphy folder. 19) They will all be transferred over.

24 1st Slide UP 2nd Slide Across 20) Once all the brushes have been transferred 21) Slide grey arrow to the top of the ipad. 22) The screen will now be split 23) Slide to the left the grey tab so the left window disappears. 24) Your Brushes have now been loaded

25 Importing Photo and Text

26 25) Tap on settings icon 26) Tap on insert a photo ( Photo Library) Note: Zoom out before you import your photo to make sure you can see all of your page. 27) Choose the landscape photo from (Unsplash)

27 28) Tap Magnetic. This keeps your image s aspect ratio the same and is easier to centre. Resize your image till it fills the whole screen. 29) Tap on fit to screen icon to centre and adjust your photo. Finish by tapping blue arrow

28 30) Repeat insert process to place the image (Adventure text.) 31) Tap layers icon and reduce opacity of the new layer by 50% 32) Tap arrow icon and adjust to fit.

29 33) Tap on the brush icon. 34) Tap on the Calligraphy folder we just created. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select Thick and Thin. 35) Tap on the Settings icon.

30 36) Tap preferences icon. 37) Tap on Edit pressure curve. 38) Tap on centre of the line to create a dot and drag that dot down a little, as you see here. NOTE: This allows your pens pressure to be exaggerated to help in the creation of this thick and thin text. 39) Tap the brush icon to exit.

31 40) Resize your brush to about 40%.

32 41) Insert new layer. NOTE: This will be your hand drawn calligraphy layer

33 Thick Stroke ( Heavy Pressure) Thin Stroke ( Light Pressure) Part Letter 2 Letters together NOTE: Draw with a bright colour to see where you are going. We can change the colour later with a colour fill.

34 Importing text from Inkpad

35 42) Open Inkpad 43) Tap on Import

36 44) Tap on Dropbox 45) Tap on folder Fonts 46) Select the fonts by tapping them. NOTE: They will have a check mark on them when they are selected. 47) Tap Import

37 48) Tap font to see your fonts you have downloaded 49) Tap + to create a new image

38 50) Tap A4 51) Tap Create

39 NOTE: This next step is not necessary but it will allow me to create a longer text. 52) Tap Document Setting Cog 53) Tap Drawing Tab 54) Tap Size and Units 55) Tap Width and change it to 29.7 and then Tap Height and change it to ) Tap Settings Cog to return to our document.

40 57) Tap the T on the toolbar for the text tool 58) Tap and drag out a large rectangle on the page

41 59) Type in the word Adventure NOTE: Don t worry about the font now we will change that later. 60) Tap on the page to exit typing

42 61) Tap A on the bottom toolbar to change font properties.

43 62) Scroll to find a nice drawn cursive font (My favourite is Heartbeat) 63) Increase the font size to 200 pt or the max width without going to a seperate line. Tap the page to exit font properties.

44 NOTE: Make sure you have selected the text. The text box will have a line around it 64) Tap Edit in lower left corner.

45 65) Tap Copy

46 66) Return to Procreate (Press Home button on ipad, or double press Home button and find Procreate on your open apps 67) 3 Finger swipe down from middle of page to bring up copy paste options. 68) Tap Paste

47 69) Tap Magnetic on the arrow tool bar 70) Long press move the small dots to resize the pasted text to the full size of our image NOTE: You can also move around the pasted text to suite you. 71) When you are done tap the blue arrow to exit.

48 72) Tap Layers icon on tool bar. You will now see a new layer created from your imported text. NOTE: This text is not editable if you need to edit it you will have to return to Inkpad and retype out your text and copy and paste it again. 73) Tap the check mark or any other layers you do not need, like your last drawn calligraphy text or imported images of our text. NOTE: To continue you can choose the imported text or your drawn text. Hide the layers you do not want to use by tapping the check boxes.

49 NOTE: I am using my own drawn text NOTE: Make sure you have selected the layer with your text on it 74) Drag white to the colour of your text and long hold. Slide to the right till all the colour has changed to white. (100%)

50 75) In your layers, 2 finger tap the layer to change the opacity. 76) Slide to the left till the opacity is at 50%.

51 77) Zoom into the figure and look at where the text overlaps the girl. 78) Erase the text where it overlaps the girl. You may need to change the opacity and size of they eraser to make a clean edit.

52 You should have something like this NOTE: A quick zoom out resets your image to 100% NOTE: A 4 finger tap hides all menus

53 79) Tap the layers icon. 80) swipe your active layer to the right and duplicate this layer 3 times.

54 81) Tap the top layer to select it. 82) Drag the colour and hold and drag to fill in black. (Colour drop Threshold 100%)

55 83) Tap adjustments icon 84) Tap Gaussian Blur

56 85) Slide to the left to about 16%

57 86) Tap the arrow (Transform icon) 87) Tap the Freeform option so that we can move the layer freely. Move the blurry black letters slightly to the right and down.

58 88) Move the blurry black text down one layer and reduce its opacity to 50% 89) Select the top layer. 90) Tap its thumbnail and tap the select option

59 91) Tap the layer with the background photo. ( We are going to copy and paste this selection onto a new layer) 92) Tap the image 93) 3 finger swipe down from the middle to choose copy and paste.

60 94) Move the new inserted image to the top of all layers. 95) Uncheck the bottom most white text.

61 96) Select the active white layer under your copy and pasted inserted image. 97) Tap the arrow (transform) tool. 98) Move the white layer up and to the left a little bit. 99) Reduce the opacity of that layer to 30%

65 Things to Remember Keep in mind setting up layers for your drawings and paintings. If you plan your work to be printed in high resolution. make sure you select, record script ON. If ArtRage is really laggy shut down parked apps and re-boot. Take your iphone or ipad with ArtRage everywhere. Homework: Recreate a similar image from Unsplash and text. Download app ASKetch.
