1 How to Make Your RooFolio Table of Contents Contents Bar.1 Pages..3 Text Box 4 Slides. 4 Uploads... 5 Backgrounds...7 Publish & Share.8 Group Work.8 Publish 9 Contents bar The contents bar allows you to personalize the pages within your RooFolio. It can be found at the top of the page. When the mouse is scrolled over the contents bar, a menu will appear. The icon on the left will allow you to edit the bar. When clicked on, this menu will appear. Here, you have the opportunity to edit the names of the page, add or delete pages, rearrange the order, and create sub-pages. 1

2 To edit the name, simply scroll over the title, select it, and type the desirable name. To add pages by selecting the add new page button located on the top right of the screen. To delete pages, select the trash can by the undesirable page. To rearrange pages, scroll over the three lines that appear to the left of the page s caption, and move the page to the desired location. To create sub- pages, scroll over the three lines that appear to the left of the page s caption, and rather than moving it up or down, move it underneath the main caption, and then move it inwards Your contents bar can look completely different from the template one, don t feel like you have to follow it. Once you edit the pages, you can change the font, font size, color, etc when selecting the middle menu icon. A settings menu will appear to the left, and once selecting the paint brush, you will be able to personalize it. To move the contents bar, select the icon to the right and while holding it down, drag the bar to the desired location 2

3 The settings icon will pop up a menu to the left that allows you to change the font, the lettering size, and the background of the bar. There is also the options to personalize the color of the page names and the color they are when the mouse is hovered over them. The page names are referred to as link color, and hover color is the color it is when about to be selected. Now that you have personalized the contents bar, you can start working on the pages! Pages The Library When you start your RooFolio, there will be template pages provides, but there may be times where you want to personalize it further. The blue plus button in the bottom right hand corner allows for you to easily add new features to your pages. 3

4 The Library will popup when the plus is selected. The menu that appears will look like this: Text Boxes After selecting rich text in the pop up menu, a text box will appear at the bottom of the page, you may have to scroll down to locate it. Once it is found, you can place it where you want by dragging it, using the arrow icon on the right. To edit the shape of the text box, drag the bottom right hand corner to form the desired shape and size. Something to keep in mind when dealing with text boxes, is that there are two different text modes, heading and paragraph. When typing titles, you ll want to select heading because it will make the text larger and bolder, while paragraph will shrink the text. Slides Adding slides allow you to have multiple images, text boxes, and videos all on one page. 4

5 Page without Slide Page with Slide The white at the bottom of the second image is the slide. Now, you can move the slide, but adding text boxes and images will make the slide bigger or smaller. You can also edit the slide s color and other properties by scrolling your mouse over the new slide and selecting the icon to left, gear. You also must be careful because you cannot move additions from one slide to another. Remember that you selected the correct slide to upload all your images and documents on. Uploads Images A great way to personalize your pages are by adding your own photos as backgrounds and reference images. Depending what you want with the photo, you do this different ways. Let s say you want to add the photo as a background. You would first choose the settings icon that appears on the top right hand side of the slide and then go to content background in the setting menu. Now select Select Image. 5

6 The Library then pops up and you choose Upload File. You can either drop the photo here, or select the file. The photo is then automatically placed as your background for that slide. If you have a page with multiple slides, you can have multiple backgrounds. Once you have uploaded an image, you have easy access to it. You can find all the images you ve uploaded in Previous Uploads To add a photo to a page, it is simple. Upload the image through Upload Image, and then it will appear on the slide, and you can crop it and place it where you would like. When you click on the photo, the settings icon will appear and it will give you the option to have the full image or the image that best fits. Full Image Best Fit Image Essays and Presentations: You ll want to have examples of your work on some of the pages. If you use Google Drive to store your essays and presentations, this is very easy. The Library has a link that allows for you to connect your Google Drive to the program and then you can select what documents you would like to upload. 6

7 Austin College supplies all students with a Microsoft account so most students use Word to write essays rather than Google Docs. In this scenario, you can download the document and upload it as you would an image, select Upload File and then it will appear on the slide. When you upload a presentation, the presentation will appear in an essay form, where rather than the slides moving right to left, you will scroll down through the slides, as one would an essay This guide only goes over Rich Text, Upload File, Google Drive because all the other options in The Library work very similarly to these. Like Rich Text, Table will in insert a table at the bottom of the slide. Github, Box.com, and Google Photos work in the same manner as Google Drive, RooFolio will ask you to connect your personal account and then you will have access to all your material on that site. Backgrounds When you select the settings icon that appears in the top right hand corner, and this menu will appear on the left side There are two different options for uploading a background: Content Background and Slide Background. 7

8 Content Background Slide Background You also have can change the opacity of the content background on the sliding bar. I like to upload a photo as the slide background and then chose a solid color for the content background and would make it about 35% opaque. It makes it easier to see the text on the page, but does not disrupt from the background photo. You could also choose a solid color for the slide background and make the content background an image and have a boarder. There is the option to have the background fixed or repeat. Fixed only shows the image once and it only moves slightly when you scroll, while repeat, shows the photo repeated all the way down the page. Publish & Share Group Work Let s say you were assigned to make a RooFolio in class to document your group project. The whole group can edit the portfolio without having to work on it together, similar to the share function on Google Docs. To share your RooFolio with your group members, you select the menu in the top right hand corner. From here, you select settings. 8

9 Settings will pull up the admin control page. You can change the title, the portfolio thumbnail, the privacy settings, and share it with people here. To share, enter the person s name in the search box and select their status. Viewer: Can view your RooFolio Editor: Can edit your RooFolio, but not publish Publisher: Can edit and publish your RooFolio Admin: Can edit your RooFolio settings, including adding and removing users who can edit and publish your RooFolio Publish Once your RooFolio is finished, you ll want to publish it so you can share it with others and have them see a clean revision. In the same menu with settings (top right hand corner) there are two options, Publish This Page and Publish Pages. Publish This Page will only publish the page you were on when you selected the menu, to publish your whole RooFolio, select Publish Pages and select the check mark next to the page title, so it s green, then select publish at the bottom of the page. 9
