4 When will the next generation website be available and how will I access it? The new website has been tested by a select group of customers during December 2016 and January These customers helped us to test and refine the final stages of development before we opened the site to more users. Customer migration will be phased through the first half of 2017 to ensure you have the support you need from your account manager and Client Support team to transition your workflows easily and effectively. Accessing the new site is simple: Current login details work on the new site, simply replace your Lloyd s List Intelligence bookmark with the url There is no need to re-register but we may require you to fill in your basic details the first time you log in You are able to update contact details on the My account page You can also reset your password on the login page: add your username (corporate ) then click Retrieve my password The new site is much simpler to use and has been designed in partnership with our customers so we anticipate you will be able to navigate the site with ease. However, the Client Support team are here to help you get started. Visit info.lloydslistintellignce.com/clientsupportnextgen to access online training materials, videos and a training schedule where you can register to join a live session. Client Support are based in Singapore, London and New York, which means queries can be answered and training can be delivered in local time. 4

5 Will the existing website continue to be available? Yes. You will have access to both the existing site and the next generation website for several months until all our customers have transitioned over. To the right is an illustration of how messaging on the next generation website will help you easily navigate back to the existing site should you wish to. Does the website work in all browsers? Please note that the next generation site is not optimised for Internet Explorer 10, or versions of IE older than 10. There are also specific bugs for older versions of Firefox. We recommend you use Google Chrome as we find this give the optimal performance. 5

6 How do I submit feedback about the next generation site? On the right of the screen there is a feedback button: we are very keen to hear from our customers while we continue to develop the service so please give us your feedback. 8 What are the benefits of the new website? The new site will bring time savings and more insight with the introduction of: Modern simplified navigation Google Maps (previously Bing Maps), to allow for advanced geospatial tools and to match user workflows Faster and predictive auto-suggest vessel searching The ability to jump to a vessel s Movements page or download a Vessel PDF Report directly from the search bar Simplified and comprehensive filtering in tabular or map view Enhanced Excel export functions available for Seasearcher Premium, Insurance and Law & Regulation subscriptions* Plot vessel tracks for up to 10 vessels at once for enhanced visual analysis In-pane AIS messages to help navigate vessel tracks through time Fully flexible alerts based on timings and frequencies that suit your operational requirements Geo-spatial tools with filtering and alerting for ships entering or leaving specific areas: Customers can draw their own custom areas on a map and save for later searches Pre-set Emission Control Areas and Lloyd s Risk Zones Pre-set ports globally, plus terminals and berths at over 80 of the world s largest ports *Please contact your account manager if you are interested in our Sesearcher Premium service. 8

9 Is there anything missing on the new site? The new site focuses on the core elements that our customers have told us are key. While we are continuing our development the new site is currently available without: Specific channel pages and related dashboards: these are still being developed and will be added to the next generation website over the next few months Hull Risk scores for the Insurance channel: these are still being developed and will be added to the next generation website as we transition customers Lloyd s List content and daily alerts: you will continue to receive daily alerts if you have set them up in the existing site but news will not be displayed within the new site on launch. Our sister service will be launching its own new and exciting website later in we will keep you updated on how this highly anticipated launch will interact with Lloyd s List Intelligence i-law.com content and documents: We are still reviewing the parameters and development needs for this Functionality like advanced searches, lists and alerts are widely covered on the new site and all existing, as well as new data has been included. Will I experience less downtime on the next generation site? We have rebuilt the technology environment when Lloyd s List Intelligence data is stored and where we host the new website, allowing us to reduce service outages to a minimum and offer our customers the most reliable service possible. 9

10 Will existing alerts and lists be migrated? Existing alerts and lists have not been migrated to the new site. Lists and alerts continue to work on the existing site and you will be able to recreate these and set up new ones on the next generation platform. Will I continue to receive my Lloyd s List news alerts? If you already receive alerts that you have set up, they will continue until the existing site is switched off. Why is a restriction error message appearing? You may experience the following user alert displayed at the bottom of the screen: Please note that if this happened on a page of the site that you can usually successfully access, it is likely that your session on Lloyd s List Intelligence has timed out. In this case a Log in option will be visible on the upper right hand corner of the screen: The message will display when you try to access the site after 30 minutes of inactivity as the site will have logged out automatically at this point. 10

11 Why can I not see the vessel or credit report I am trying to download? The next generation Lloyd s List Intelligence site uses pop-ups to display Vessel and Credit Reports. If you are unable to access the reports, please check your browser settings to ensure that pop-ups are not blocked. 11

13 Why does the map view still show all vessels in the fleet when I have only search results in the left hand tabular view? Only adding filters will reduce the size of the world fleet shown on the map. The search is independent of the map. Why doesn t the map show the vessel location? The map will adjust to the vessels location when you click on the vessel row, however it will remain at the fully zoomed out resolution. Simply zoom in on the map and your vessel will become visible. 14 Why do more results show when I add more search terms? Adding further detail to a search can increase the results provided. As an example, see below the search results for Musim (a unique term for a Company name in the database as of early 2017) and Musim Mas, where many company names contain Mas : The search on Lloyd s List Intelligence is set up to generate results of the closest fitting name overall. This style of search is particularly helpful when you have an incomplete name, or spelling error. 14

15 Why have you changed how vessels are displayed on the map and how does it work? What is clustering? Clusters are groups of vessels, showing the number of vessels in the area. The darker the shade of the cluster, the more vessels are in the area. Why clustering? Clustering is used to show the density of ships in certain areas as well as providing a visual count of the ships. How does the clustering work? Clustering is used to show vessel presence for very large number of ships and the density of ships in different areas. The first 3 levels of the map zoom always depict numbers rather than individual vessels. For example, zoom level 3 might sum up and therefore cluster ships in an area of 10 square nautical miles, zoom level 2 might cluster or sum up ships in an area of 50 nautical miles etc. After zoom level 4, individual ships are displayed as single green vector icons unless their proximity or number continues to necessitate clustering. This means that in areas with great vessel density, clusters will be present at higher levels of zoom. 15

16 What has changed in how vessel movements are displayed? On the new website the Movements page combines all data relating to a ship s position and port callings in one page to save you from having to load another web page. You no longer have to choose from the two options on the Vessel menu. What was previously called Movements, is now renamed Ports and Passings. This is accessed on a toggle on the Movements page along with AIS. 16

17 Why do some vessels on the vessel search page have no movements data? Before you enter any search criteria, the vessel search screen will display all vessels in the database, whether alive of out of commercial service. To avoid selecting vessels with no movements data, simply change the vessel status filter to Live In the future, we may add additional descriptions to reflect vessels where there is no movements data available. 17

18 Why is the vessel ETA no longer shown at the top of the movements screen? The next generation Lloyd s List Intelligence Movements page lists port callings and passings only and does not include the ETA in the tabular movements data 1. However, you can still see the destination and ETA at the top of the screen

19 What is the difference between Ports and Passings vs AIS Messages? Ports and Passings: Comprises port callings, passings through key waterways and vessels sailing past ports. Generated by movement reports from shipping agents in ports and by AIS vessel movements, as well as other unique sources. This includes port callings at over 1,000 locations globally that are verified by Lloyd s Agents on the ground, who we have access to exclusively through our historic relationship with the Corporation of Lloyd s. This is particularly important for you as there are hundreds of locations around the world where AIS receivers cannot be used but we have port movements covered via our agents. These agents are also a key contributor to our unique casualties and incidents data. AIS Messages: Automatic Identification System is navigational data sent over radio waves that merchant ships are required to transmit under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. Lloyd s List Intelligence uses a global network of AIS receivers in strategic countries and ports around the world, as well as satellite AIS, to pick up this data that allows you to track vessel voyages globally. We have been upgrading our proprietary terrestrial AIS network and are already seeing up to 20% more AIS sightings processed and available online on both the existing and the new site. In 2017 we will be expanding our global network to ensure we have receivers in all the world s largest commodity ports, providing you with the most comprehensive view of global trade available. 19

20 How do I drill down into the data on the new Movements page? On the Movements tab of a vessel, switch from the Ports and Passings page to AIS Messages : AIS positions are reported in summarised intervals of 2 minutes, where available. This is a significant improvement on the existing site and offers you a level of detail for the track of a vessel that helps you understand small changes in a vessel s movements. 20

21 How do I search for vessels by their former name? As shown below, after entering the former name in the search box, click on the Formerly Named toggle to see a listing of all vessels that have been named as such in the past. Note: entering the name and pressing return will directly redirect to the vessel page if there is only one vessel currently named in the same way. 21

22 Does the new site allow me to monitor sanctions more effectively? There are some key areas where we have enhanced our sanctions capability: Custom drawn polygons can be used to monitor ship movements via AIS flexibly. There are also pre-drawn geospatial areas available around the wider coastal areas of sanctioned countries such as Syria. This is a powerful operational tool to help you monitor fleets of vessels. For those subscribers with access to sanctions features, data is shown in an improved visual format, emphasising the many aliases sanctioned entities, individuals and vessels are using. As before, sanctioned vessels are linked by IMO number, enabling users to trace ships changing names. This function is continuously updated with OFAC, HM Treasury and EU sanctions. We have also added the OFAC Non-SDN sanctions records to the existing and next generation sites in the last month. What is the maximum number of recipients for vessel alerts? The number of recipients to receive vessel alerts continues to be limited to 3 addresses. As before, several alerts can be set up to have additional people receive the messages. 22

23 Why can I sometimes not delete a geospatial area? If a user has set up an alert against an area, the system will not allow for the area to be deleted. This is to avoid a user losing an alert inadvertently. To delete the area, please delete the area alert first. Why is a LLI defined port in my list of personal geospatial areas? If a user sets up an area alert against a LLI defined geospatial port area from the system, the system will replicate this area as a personal geospatial area. Why can I not find a personal geospatial area with a specific name? If a personal geospatial area is used in an area alert, the area is automatically renamed with the alert name by the system. 23

24 Why are my alerts not appearing in my inbox? Please make sure that alerts are not being sent to filtering applications like Microsoft Clutter. Also note that other filters should be adjusted to make sure that the s and are allowed to be received by your profile. What does the vessel status denote? The lifecycle of a vessel is reflected the following way on our database: On Order An agreement has been signed between the ship yard and buyer that the vessel is to be built Under Construction The keel has been laid and construction of the vessel superstructure has begun In Build The construction of the vessel superstructure has been completed. The vessel has been launched but may still be undergoing further fitting / sea trials Live The vessel has completed sea trials and has entered commercial service Dead The vessel has left service and has either been broken, or was lost due to an incident e.g. casualty In addition, the database covers Reported Order and Cancelled Order which is more difficult to obtain and so is provided on a best effort basis. 24

25 Geospatial Port, Terminal and Berth Mapping We have included LLI defined geospatial areas for all ports globally on the new site. These port areas existed on the previous site and were used to generate port calling information from AIS vessel movements. On the next generation site, we are also including geospatial areas with terminal and berth information at over 80 of the world s largest ports. The number of ports with this information will continue to rise as our dedicated Port Research team adds new areas to our database. The first ports to have terminals and berths information added were chosen based on the world s largest crude oil import and export ports, the most traded commodity in the world. Geospatial areas for both crude and noncrude terminals and berths at these ports are available on the new site. Can t I get this information from somewhere else? The level of background analysis and detailed methodology used are unique to Lloyd s List Intelligence. Our Port Research team have been in touch with the world s largest port authorities as part of the process, and many have confirmed that no other organisation is researching and mapping ports, terminals and berths with such rigour. The advanced GIS skills of our team, together with a decade of historical AIS data for propriety research is a combination that is very difficult for similar products to replicate. 25

26 What methodology is used to carry out the terminal and berth research? By making direct contact with ports, we have been able to integrate official diagrams into Lloyd s List Intelligence s proprietary geospatial drawing system to ensure accurate plotting to the exact specifications stated by the port. Utilising Lloyd s List Intelligence s exclusive relationship with the Lloyd s Agency Network in ports around the world and exploiting our wealth of historical AIS and port calling data has also allowed the team to pinpoint berth and mooring information even when it has been challenging to obtain the information directly. 26
