Students will learn how to digitally create multimedia and prepare it for various end products including print, web, and laser engraving. Topics will include digital camera function, image capturing techniques, digital image editing, 2D computer animation, flash video creation, XHTML, Web 2.0 tools, and webpage design. Students will have the opportunity to apply and demonstrate proficiency in concepts learned in class by engaging in projects and activities to give them experience in designing and utilizing various forms of media to solve real world problems. Each student exits the course with an interactive digital portfolio of his or her work. Lab Fee: $10.00 Digital Multimedia Design 1
2 I. Overall Course/Grade Level Standards Students will KNOW and be able TO DO the following as a result of taking this course. A) Describe the parts and function of traditional and digital cameras through the understanding of the chemical and electronic processes involved. B) Explain and illustrate how cameras, multimedia, and the Internet have developed overtime as a result of several factors including the strength of the economy, the goals of the corporate sector, and the latest fads. C) Utilize digital cameras, removable memory, and computer technology to capture, import, and edit digital images for a variety of end purposes including digital presentations, traditional and upcoming physical products, and website design. D) Compare and contrast different file types and quality settings when using digital images for digital presentations and physical products. E) Evaluate image editing software as a means of manipulating and preparing digital images for a variety of end products. F) Utilize HTML and CSS code to create websites that have multiple pages linked together by following the W3C Standards for valid webpage design. G) Troubleshoot errors in HTML and CSS code by testing local files in multiple web browsers and using a page validation service. H) Create and optimize images and graphics for use in websites while considering the appropriate file type for use on the Internet. I) Organize and maintain an appropriate file structure and naming system for folders and files that would be uploaded to a web server for display of a website on the Internet. J) Compare and contrast the design and layout of modern websites in order to gain an understanding of current trends in website design. K) Utilize 2D animation software to create an animated video that consists of multiple scenes in a sequential order. Digital Multimedia Design 2
3 L) Compare and contrast the use of keyframes and tweening to create animated content. M) Describe the concept of interpolation and how it makes modern animation possible. N) Demonstrate how to export and convert video files for a variety of end purposes including on-screen display, removable media (i.e. DVD / Blu-ray), and website design. O) Utilize WYSIWYG website design software to create websites that have multiple pages linked together by following the W3C Standards for valid webpage design. P) Compare and contrast WYSIWYG website design and writing HTML code as a means of creating and developing websites. Explain the term resolution and why it is an important factor in preparing images for various end products. 7. Compare and contrast images that are set to a variety of different resolution settings. 8. Explain the positives and negatives of image editing software that is used for manipulating images prior to final output as a physical product. 9. Explain how computers and image editing software resample images when size and resolution adjustments are made. 10. Analyze how digital imaging technology has evolved in order to produce a wide array of different physical products that currently exist in society. 11.
