1 To create a works cited document, you can use an internet site to format the information you need: 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. In the address bar, type in: 3. You will need to login use the following information: Username: olwschool Password: wildcat Click Sign In 4. This website allows you to keep track of your current works cited list. You will need to create a new list. On the top right of the page, click on Create a New List. 5. Enter a description. Then click Create List 1

2 6. In the Cite A box you will need to choose the type of source you are going to cite. Click on the drop-down arrow to select your source type the then Click Create Citation 7. If you are holding (or held) the book, journal or magazine article in your hand, it is a print source. Click on the little circle in front of the word: Print 8. If you found your information on the computer (Internet, online journal or newspaper), it is an online source. Click on the little circle in front of the word: Online 9. Click Next to continue. 2

3 10. Type the information from your source into the boxes. BE SURE TO SPELL CORRECTLY. CAPITALIZE NAMES AND TITLES AND ENTER THE DATES AS THEY ASK. 11. When you have typed all the information, you have the option to Check For Errors (great for review) or Update Citation (to complete). 12. You can continue to add other citations until you have a completed Works cited. 13. You can Edit your information if you made a mistake. 3

4 The easiest way to get your information into a print format is to save it as a Word document that you will then print. 1. Once you have completed all your citation, click Save as Word Doc. 2. Verify all the information on the screen click Export and Print. 3. You may have to open a popup blocker to export the file. 4. You will need to save the information once it is imported into Word. 4

5 5. If the formatting of your text does not work properly when exporting the information from the website into Word, you will need to fix the formatting in Word. 6. Highlight the text and from the menu bar, select Format, Paragraph. 7. Under the indentation section, click be sure to set the Special option to Hanging and set the spacing. 8. Be sure that the cited paragraph is Single spaced. Click option for Line spacing and select Single. 5
