3 SECTION I: UIW COMMUNITY IMPORTANT DATES Banner 9 Release to UIW Community: June 1, 2018 Banner 9 Showcase Sessions: June 2018 UIW Banner 8 Decommissioning Date: Sept. 30, 2018 SECTION II: RESOURCES Ellucian Banner 9 Navigation Video (14 minutes) Access the Banner 9 Navigation Video by logging in to the MyWord Portal. Click on Banner 9 Navigation Quick Tour under the Launchpad. Direct Link: B9-quick-tour.mp4 Ellucian On-Demand Subscription Library Ellucian On-Demand Subscription Library is a collection of Banner trainings and navigation tutorials for Banner 9. An Ellucian HUB Account is required to access the On-Demand Subscription Library (ODSL). Please follow the steps listed below. 2

4 If you have an Ellucian HUB account: 1. Access the HUB in one of 2 ways: a. Directly via this link: b. Through the myword portal under the Launchpad section 2. Once in the HUB, click on the Education Svcs New icon to access the ODSL 3. You may be prompted to verify your address if you are logging into the ODSL for the first time. 3

5 4. Click on Get Help to watch a short Site Overview video tutorial. 5. Click on the Site Overview video to begin the download process. 6. You will need to open the download located at the bottom of your screen. (Please note that clicking on the download will open the video in a new tab.) 4

6 If you do not have an Ellucian HUB account: 1. Go to the following link to request an Ellucian HUB account: 2. Follow the instructions and click the Submit button Note: Use your university address (for example, 5

7 3. Enter your demographic details prior to clicking on the Submit Registration. 6

9 5. You will receive a confirmation that your registration has been submitted. (Please allow up to 5 business days for processing. If you do not receive an account activation from Ellucian within 5 business days, please contact The UIW Help Desk at helpdesk@uiwtx.edu or ) 8

10 SECTION III: LOGIN STEPS 1. Open Browser: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari **Please note that if you are using Banner Document Management & AppXtender for scanning and indexing, Google Chrome is the recommended browser. 2. Access (MyWord Portal) 3. Sign in to the portal using your AD credentials (computer/ username and password). 9

11 4. Under the Launchpad, select the Banner 9 Admin Pages (INB) link. 10

12 SECTION IV: APPLICATION NAVIGATOR After you are logged into Banner 9, you are now able to search for Banner admin pages (formerly Banner INB forms) by their Banner 8 acronyms or using search terms such as registration, student bill, etc.) 11

17 SECTION VIII: FAQ s Why are we upgrading Banner? Upgrading moves us away from depending on the Java plug-in for using Banner 8. Banner 8 will no longer support regulatory upgrades starting December Banner 9 provides a modern user interface and useful features to Banner users with continued releases. Which web Browser should I use? Any browser can be used for Banner 9 (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari etc.) Users have expressed that Chrome is the most stable and effective browser for Banner 9. Will BDM/Xtender work with all the browsers? BDM/Xtender works best with Chrome. How do I access Banner 9? Users may access Banner 9 via the myword portal by clicking the Banner 9 Admin Pages link under the Launch Pad. Will I use the same credentials to log into Banner 9? If users log in via the myword portal, they will be logged into Banner 9 automatically via single sign-on by clicking the Banner 9 Admin Pages link Do I need a VPN connection for Banner 9? Only if you are accessing Banner 9 pages from off campus. Will Banner 9 work on mobile devices? Yes! Banner 9 works well on large screen mobile devices like tablets and ipads. Although you can use Banner 9 on your phone, the user experience not ideal. 16

18 Does Enterprise Applications have to migrate data between Banner 8 and Banner 9? No. There is no change to the Banner database. Both Banner 8 & 9 share the same access to the database. The Banner forms will now be called pages and they will contain the same data points, however, the fields layout may be different. What functionality will be lost I Banner 9? None. There will be cosmetic changes and some process changes but the functionality will be the same. What training or re-training of Banner users will be needed to use Banner 9? Very little training is needed for the users to use the new interface. The change from Banner 8 to Banner 9 is a one to one form replacement. All the fields and completion processes will be the same. We recommend utilizing Ellucian On-Demand Subscription Library (ODSL) for Banner 9 tutorials. What is the Application Navigator? The Application Navigator is a new feature within Banner 9. It provides a single web page to access both the pages (previously forms) and self-service menus. You can click the menu icon in the upper left corner or by pressing Ctrl +M (Windows) or Control +M (Macintosh) will bring up all the links for the Banner menus. Note: Currently Banner Self-service will not be impacted by our change to Banner 9. Banner Self-service pages will be updated at a later time. What is the MY BANNER link on the Application Navigator Menu? This is where you can quickly access the Banner pages you use most often. You can use GUAPMNU to create your favorites. Can I run multiple instances of the Application Navigator? Yes, although in separate web browsers for each instance. Can I run multiple instances of Banner Admin pages within Application Navigator? Yes, either in the same browser or a different browser. Why did some of the Banner shortcuts have to change? Some of the keys that were used for Banner 8 INB shortcuts are reserved for use by the browsers. That is the reason why they could not be used in Banner 9. 17

19 Where can I find a list of the available shortcut keys for Banner 9? There is a link at the bottom of the main Admin page Keyboard Shortcuts. You can also find a complete list on the MyWord Portal under Banner, Enterprise Applications Projects, Banner 9 Upgrade. Where can I find the list of related forms that was under Options on the menu bar in Banner 8? You can find these pages by clicking on Related in the upper left side of the Banner 9 pages. What wildcard can be used in a filter search? The % sign is used as the wildcard. Always us a wildcard You can use more than one wildcard in each field Wildcards may be placed anywhere in the field, without using a wildcard the system will look for an exact match to what you typed. How do I resize a page in Banner 9? You can use the Ctrl+ to increase the size or Ctrl to decrease the size. 18
