1 NGCP Collaborative Web Pages The NGCP website includes complete descriptions and up-to-date information on national project information and each Collaborative. This essential resource for people involved in or curious about the project continues to be one of our most-used outreach tools within the project, with over 4 million visitors each year. The National Girls Collaborative Project provides web pages for each Collaborative to share relevant project information, activities, and links to local resources. Each Collaborative is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the content on their Collaborative web pages. This task may be designated to a member of the Leadership Team. Please refer to the NGCP Style Guide and Glossary for commonly used terms within the NGCP. What Makes Good Web Content? NGCP has provided you with the infrastructure to allow you to communicate valuable and useful information to your local stakeholders and administrative access to ensure timely updates. The Collaborative Leadership Team is responsible for providing content specific to your project and local area. Think of a few websites that you like to visit again and again. What makes you go back often? Most likely, it's compelling, relevant, and timely content. Quality articles and current information about events compel the reader to come back and maybe even some of their friends to visit a site as well. The sites that are consistently top-ranked in the search engine results have these things in common when it comes to content: Interesting, unique content that is well-written Links that point the viewer to other parts of the website Content that helps answer a problem the visitor may have or provides resources the visitor needs Pithy content that is easily scanned and read quickly Evergreen as well as current content. "Evergreen" means that the information will not be outdated a month from now. General Text & Collaborative Page Templates Your Collaborative web pages have been developed for you with template text used for all Collaboratives. You are welcome to customize this text to make it more relevant for your local stakeholders. Below are some tips for creating text on your Collaborative web pages. Keep paragraphs short, as Web-readers scan quickly and will skip bulky paragraphs. Write out each first reference to an acronym. Example, The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will sponsor the event on Saturday. SWE is a professional association with local chapters that provide resources, funding, and role models to inspire girls to pursue careers in engineering. Convert any documents you would like posted on your web page to PDF format prior to uploading. Logos and other pictures should utilize.eps or.tif files when posting a PDF. Photos/Logos Take photos at high resolution for use on NGCP print and web materials. Example: Width Height Mega pixels Web - 72 ppi Print ppi MP Make sure you have written publishing permission from anyone in the photos. Logos from partners should be posted in the appropriate format (for Web,.jpg or.gif files. For PDF and Word documents, use.eps or.tif files).
2 How To Add Content to Collaborative Pages: Go to Click Log in in the upper right corner of the NGCP website. Log in with your user name and password. You will see the screen below if you are set-up as a Collaborative Admin. If you do not see the screen below, please contact Amy Foster, afoster@edlabgroup.org, for appropriate permissions to be added to your account. Click on your Collaborative name (highlighted in red).
3 You will be land on the Overview page for your Collaborative. Scroll down until you see the Group Actions highlighted below. Information on adding a Forum or Conference event can be found in the NGCP How To Events Registration technical assistance document. All other Group actions can be found below. To Add a Newsletter Issue: Click on Create Newsletter issue seen above. You will see the screen below. Input the title in the following format: PA STEM GCP E-Newsletter July 2012 or ILGCP E-Newsletter Summer Do not include anything in the area labeled Body. Input the date of the newsletter in the Date field. This field organizes your newsletters on the Collaborative page-this field should not be left empty. In the Link field include the Archive URL provided in Constant Contact. If you are unsure how to obtain your newsletter link, please see the How To Constant Contact or contact Amy Foster, afoster@edlabgroup.org for technical assistance. Click Save. Your newsletter issue will now appear in date order on your Collaborative page.
4 To Create a Champions Board Member: Click on Create Champion. You will see the screen below. Enter the Champion name in the Name field. Do not enter an image. Enter their job title in the Title field. In the Short Description field enter their organization name, e.g. Girl Scouts of Southern California. You do not need to enter anything into the field or Body field. The Weight field allows you to organize Champions Board and Leadership Team members in alphabetical order. Light weights rise to the top and heave weights sink to the bottom. For example, I would assign a 1 to the Collaborative Lead so she is at the top of the Leadership Team list, regardless of alphabetical order. I would assign a 50 to someone whose last name starts with a Z. Click Save. Your Champions Board member should now appear on your Collaborative page. To Add a Leadership Team Member: Click on Create Leadership in your group actions. You will see the screen below. Enter Name, Title, and Organization Name. The Weight field allows you to organize Champions Board and Leadership Team members in alphabetical order. Light weights rise to the top and heave weights sink to the bottom. For example, I would assign a 1 to the Collaborative Lead so she is at the top of the Leadership Team list, regardless of alphabetical order. I would assign a 50 to someone whose last name starts with a Z.
5 Click Save. Your Leadership Team member should now appear on your Collaborative page. To Add a Partner: Click on Create Partner in your group actions. You will see the screen below. Enter the organization name in Title. Upload the organization logo under Image. It is very important to include the logo or you will have a blank white space on your partners page. In the Body field, add a short description about the partner. This may include their mission statement or other descriptive information. For an example, see the National Partners page under About>Partners. Include the partner s web address under Website. The Weight field allows you to organize Partners in alphabetical order. Light weights rise to the top and heave weights sink to the bottom. For example, I would assign a 1 to AAUW because the organization begins with an A. I would assign a higher number to NSF because the organization begins with a N. Click Save. Your partner should now appear on your Collaborative page. See the screenshots below for an example. When you click on the organization name the second screenshot will appear.
6 To Edit Content on Collaborative Pages: While logged into the NGCP website and on your Collaborative web page, click on Manage Other Content in the left hand navigation menu. See the red circle in the screenshot below.
7 You will see the screenshot below. From this menu, you can publish, unpublish, and edit E- newsletters, Leadership Team members, Champions Board members, and Partners. To find the content you would like to edit, you can search by title, type, or status (see red circle). Then click Apply. You can also see a list of your content below. To edit content, click the edit button on the right. To publish or unpublish content, select the items you would like to unpublish by checking the box next to the date (see yellow star). Under bulk operation, select your action (publish or unpublish) then click Execute (see red arrow). To edit the text found on any page in the left hand navigation menu (seen above): Begin by clicking on the name of your Collaborative or by navigating to the Overview Page. You will see this screen. Then click Edit (see red circle).
8 You will see the screen below. Please do not edit the Title or States area without previous approval from the NGCP Team. The field includes the of the Collaborative Lead. This is where the contact form will be sent if a visitor to your Collaborative pages submits a question or comment. The Newsletter Signup field allows you to add the URL from Constant Contact that allows people to register for your e-newsletter distribution. If you are unsure how to obtain this URL, please contact Amy Foster, afoster@edlabgroup.org. The Mission Statement field includes the introductory text about your Collaborative. It is the first thing someone sees when visiting your Collaborative web pages. Continue scrolling down. If your Collaborative has been given approval to open mini-grant applications, you can edit your dates under Mini-grant info as seen below. Dates entered here will automatically populate on your Overview page, Mini-grants page, and the National Minigrants opportunities calendar. This also allows those with a program registered in your Collaborative to access the application during the posted dates.
9 All other Collaborative pages can be edited by clicking Header text for your collab s content listings. To edit text, click into the appropriate wysiwyg. Wysiwygs are a term used to describe a system in which content (text and graphics) displayed onscreen during editing appears in a form closely corresponding to its appearance when printed or displayed as a finished product. This simply means you would edit the text that appears much like you would within a word document. Don t forget to click Save at the bottom of the page to save any changes you have made. To Manage Collaborative Members: While logged into the NGCP website and on your Collaborative web page, click on the Manage Members tab. See the red circle in the screenshot below.
10 You will see the screen below. If you know the username of another Collaborative Leadership Team member and would like to grant them access to list events and/or edit Collaborative webpages, you can type their user name under Add Existing Users and then click Add Users. They will then appear under Manage Members. Grant the role you would like them to have (Collab Managers can edit web pages and add events. Collab Reviewers can only review mini-grants.), then click Save. If you would like to grant permissions to a Collaborative Leadership Team member, but do not know their username, scroll down and invite them to join your Collaborative by sending them an message.
