LIS 467 Web Development & Information Architecture Assignment 1: Project Plan & Needs Assessment 1. Team Name: Griffiths Web Design Logo: 2. Team members and roles: <Miranda Griffiths> - web designer, researcher, data collector, coder Contact Information: griffims@simmons.edu Reasons for assigning the roles this way: I will be the sole creator of this website, so I will perform all the duties necessary to build it. 3. Project schedule / timeline 4. Skills needed and plans to acquire them Team skills- coding, organization, fact checking and research. Missing- web design: will be gained from this class. 5. Site chosen reasons for choice, and if you ll get in touch Cause- Women s Rights
Why- In the current political climate this is a necessary resource. The website will provide ways to fight for women s rights, relative information, resources and inspiration for women and social justice activists. 6. Audience / stakeholders General public, women, users who are passionate about women s rights, activists 7. Plan to gather requirements Liason- Miranda Griffiths 8. Mission/purpose This website s purpose is to provide a resource for women s rights activists. We seek to empower women and inspire them to continue to fight for equal rights. 9. Sample persona Rachel, a 32 year old woman works for a male dominated company and is feeling discriminated against because she is female. She can come to this website to find resources to help her deal with this discrimination and empower her to have the courage to speak up for herself. Assignment 2: Information Architecture, Wireframe & Mood Board 1. Site Description This website will be dedicated to helping protect women s rights in a political climate where they are being threatened. The site will serve as a resource for women who need information about their rights and how to fight for equality, it will be a place for activists looking for ways to stand up for injustices, and it will provide a light for those who need it in a time when they feel as though their voices are being silenced. 2. Reference Websites American Civil Liberties Union- The ACLU s women s rights page presents a lot of information, but in a digestible way. Everything is highlighted in an interesting and eye-catching way making it easy for users to find what they are looking for or to browse the site s content. I would like to incorporate a similar navigation bar and large image at the top of my webpage. Global Fund for Women- This webpage has a simpler design, but I like it s color scheme using neutral colors and one bright color as an accent. It also prominently displays a definition of women s rights, which I think is important to include in a website dedicated to raising funds for women.
Human Rights Watch- On the Human Right s Watch page that is dedicated to women s rights, the page is long with too much white space, which is something I will work to avoid. However, the layout is sleek and includes a black bar that highlights women s rights in foreign countries which is an important inclusion Use Cases 1. A high school student is writing a report on the women s suffragette movement and wants to include information on this year s women s march and compare them. 2. A woman is dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace and wants to find information on steps she can take to deal with the situation and how to report it. 3. Someone who feels strongly about fighting for equal rights is looking for a way to help by donating to a credible charity that devotes itself to fighting for women s rights. 4. Metadata <head> <meta charset= utf-8 /> <meta name= description content= women s rights, social justice, resources > <meta name= keywords content= women s march, social movement, suffrage, equality, gender wage gap, gender, feminist, feminism > </head> 5. Information Architecture Images- Women s March signs, quotes by women, images to correspond with new articles, Web Design Company Logo Links- News articles, Resources for women Javascript- I Pledge to button Header, Footer, Navigation Bar 6. Wireframe (image and/or link)
7. Mood board: description of images and image of mood board
Mood: bold, striking, sleek, professional The color palette of the website is representative of the pink hats worn by the participants in the Women s March, but still simple and professional. The bold pop of color is indicative of the striking impact that women have had on society and will continue to fight for. The text is a sans serif font, Candara, that is easier on the eyes on a screen and is readable, but gives the webpage a purposeful design.
