6 Layer List - Default More Button Note: If you have viewed the layer list in a previous session, you will find it as one of the tools in the upper right. If not, click the More button. Layers turned on with verbiage transparent are scale dependent will turn on when zoomed to the scale assigned. Note: When viewing city parcels, turning off the city layer will remove the transparent film over the city. To zoom in and out of the map, use the Zoom in and Zoom out tools on the upper left side of the map or use your mouse wheel. 6

7 Identify When you have zoomed to the parcel layer a single click will provide information about a parcel. The options shown above link back to useful pages on the Otter Tail County Webpage. The HUB page content includes assessment details (CAMA Computer Aided Mass Appraisal), Sales Date, a link to the Property Tax Application and an advanced property search. Remember the ellipsis will always contain options such as viewing the data in the attribute table. 7

8 Search Method 1. Targeted Search All If you know exactly how data is stored, this can be a fast way to find your information. There was only one instance of the number so the quick search was suitable. You can see the address point was found, displaying the information attached to that point. 8

9 Address numbers less than five numbers are more difficult to find. If you were to put in the number 100 with no space after the number, it would not be a suitable search. The search would display a few results with the number 100 somewhere in the data. Entering 100 followed by a space and a directional letter (such as N) would quantify the result further, but there still will only be a few results shown. Entering W Main Ave would give you results but there are actually 35 addresses that exist for that road name in two different cities. 9

10 Only six of the thirty-five will be displayed and you will not be able to tell the city related to them. The attribute table filtering would probably be a better choice for city addresses see section on attribute table. Address Remember only a sample will be brought forward if there are multiple records. Parcel Number Otter Tail County Parcel Number contains 14 digits (some with leading zero). If you were to enter a selection would be returned (only a few parcels in Section 20 of Aurdal Township and platted properties would not be shown). 10

12 A. Select Parcel by entering Parcel Number Ellipsis Note: You can turn the Address Layer off by using the Layer Tool. Use the ellipsis to view attributes, further define and export. 12

13 Using the Ellipsis to View the Attribute Table: The Attribute Table holds all of the date attached to the feature being selected (in this case, the parcel). It can be very helpful in choosing the correct item in the data returned from the query. Make sure the Parcel tab is the one selected and you have zoomed to the map extent that you wish to use. Each column in the table is sortable. Click on the row that you wish to view and use the Zoom to option. You can use the Clear Selection and choose a different record if you wish. When you have found the data that you need, use the ellipsis to Remove this Result. To return to the full extent of the map, use the Home button. Use the Filter to Map Extent tab -- If you are looking at parcels, you should see over 65,000 records appear at the lower left in the attribute table. 13

14 B. Select Parcel by Drawing a Shape on the Map Zoom to the area of interest. Choose the drawing tool that will do the best job of designating the area. In the example below, the polygon tool was chosen. Note: It is best to draw the line inside of the area you wish to avoid choosing parcels you do not need. Results: 14

16 C. Select Parcel by Name The Ellipsis to the right of the query name contains options. Zoom, Export to CSV file, View Attribute Table and Removing the Result are tools most often used. 16

17 D. Buffer your Selection By using Selection and the Back Arrow you could choose to buffer the chosen parcels in Selection method A, B or C for a larger selection. Use the ellipsis to view attributes, further define and export 1. While on the Results page for your Parcel selection, click on the word Selection to go back to choices for selection. Use the Left Arrow Choose the Query entitled Buffer your Selection. There will be two choices as shown above. Choose Only return features that have a spatial relationship with features in another layer. Select Parcel by Entering Parcel Number contains the results of you parcel number query. Apply Add footage needed for buffer. 17

18 Use the Ellipsis to make choices Export to CSV File View in Attribute Table (See Attribute Table Page) To clear use the Ellipsis Remove this Result. E. Select Address The ellipsis can be used to zoom to, pan to, export, view in attribute table or to remove the result. NOTE: This query uses the address layer. Depending upon your zoom level, the addresses may not be needed and can be turned off using the Layer Tool. 18

19 F. Select by Lake Name: Selecting a name that has multiple results can be problematic. You could use the attribute table to find the correct record. Click on the Ellipsis at the right of the dialog box to see the results. Choose the lake you wish to view and use the zoom to to navigate to that location. 1. Make sure that you at the full map extent by clicking the Home icon at the left side of the map. The attributes are accessed by the toggle at the bottom of the map display. Find the tab entitled Lakes. The data for all of the lakes pertaining to the map is displayed. Using the Filter: If two or more attributes are needed, use the expression set at the bottom of the filtering screen. 19

20 Result: Double click the record to zoom to the desired location or use the Zoom to option. To remove the record selection, use the remove selected record button. To delete the filter, use the method described previously. To return to the full county parcel set: Switch to the Parcel Tab. Use the Home icon to return to the full extent of the map. Filter by Map Extent will bring all of the parcel records to the attribute table. This select cannot be used for buffering only for presentation of lake data. Use the Select by shape tool to navigate to the lake, followed by select by parcel and then buffering. Note: Once the lake is selected, it is possible to create a buffer around the lake to select the parcels. 20

21 G. Select Road Segments by Name Choose the segment of the road (low and high refer to the range of house numbers available). 21

22 You can use the buffer tool to select the parcels a distance from the chosen road segment. If your target is a portion of the road segment it might be best to use the Select Parcel by Drawing a Shape on the Map (2b). Once your parcels have been selected you can use the Attribute table at the bottom of the display to view and/or export the data. 22

23 3. Select by Shape Click the layer you wish to use (such as Parcels). Before you use the spatial search to find a dataset, turn off addresses and driveways in the Address group in the layer list. Also turn off Reference group. 23

24 4. Attribute Table Creating a Custom Query The toggle is in the middle of the lower part of the screen. Choose the tab pertaining to your select (such as Parcels shown below). Use the Home icon on the left side to zoom to the extent of the map. There should be over parcel records. In the Attributes, select by map extent. Under Options, choose Filter. Create an expression using the filter expression option. Results: 24

25 To remove the filter: Delete the filter here. EXPRESSION SET (Using more than one criteria): RESULTS: Use the delete filter option as shown above to clear selection. 25

26 Basemap Gallery Map Terminology: Basemap - A map depicting background reference information such as landforms, roads, landmarks, and political boundaries, onto which other thematic information is placed. A basemap is used for locational reference and often includes a geodetic control network as part of its structure. Select by Shape Note: Check the layer that you wish to select. If the Section Layer is turned on, you may see that selected as well. You could turn off that layer before using this option. Selecting using this option will not allow you to use the buffer tool. 26

27 Measure The measure tool has three components: Area Draw a line around your target and double click to complete the area measurement. The measurement will be shown on the right panel. If you wish to see the measurement with the target, you will need to use the Draw Tool. Distance Distance is a linear measurement. Like the Area tool, the measurement will be shown at the right. 27
