1 Getting Started with E-Portfolio For Students Page 1 of 6 E-Portfolio Instructions For more information, please check out the Brightspace (D2L) resources for eportfolio here: Most of these directions have been taken from there for you. Please note the instructions on this page are Getting Started and do not contain every option in eporfolio. Step 1: Access eportfolio 1) Go to and login to VIULearn (Desire2Learn) 2) You can get to eportfolio two ways: a. On the top right hand corner of the My Home page, choose eportfolio OR b. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on eportfolio under My Settings Step 2: Create Artifacts (Upload a File) 1) Click on the My Items tab at the top of the page 2) On the My Items page, click the Add button and choose File Upload.
2 Getting Started with E-Portfolio For Students Page 2 of 6 3) Click Upload to browse for the file you want to add. 4) Click Add. 5) Confirm that you selected the correct file, then click Next. 6) Give the artifact a Name and Description. a. NOTE: For your own organization it is very important to clearly name your items 7) Add any tags you want the artifact to have. 8) Click Save. 9) Scroll to the bottom of the screen and choose Save and Close. 10) Use the breadcrumbs to go back to My Items. Step 3: Create a Presentation See image to the right 1) On the My Items page, click New Presentation. 2) Give the presentation a Name and Description. 3) Add any tags you want the presentation to have. 4) Click Save. Step 4: Add Pages and Artifacts to the Presentation 1) Click the Content/Layout tab on the Edit Presentation page. 2) Under Pages click on the New Page icon
3 Getting Started with E-Portfolio For Students Page 3 of 6 3) Name your page (for example: About Me ) 4) Click Save. 5) On the page you want to add an artifact (file) to, click Add Component in the content area. 6) Choose Artifact.
4 Getting Started with E-Portfolio For Students Page 4 of 6 7) Select the item you want to add. 8) Click Add. Step 5: Adding Text items to the Presentation 1) Click the Content/Layout tab on the Edit Presentation page. 2) On the page you want to add text to, click Add Component in the content area. 3) Choose Text area. 4) Give the area a name and type your text into content 5) You can add images if they have been uploaded to your eportfolio. You can also add links and videos. To add videos they need to be on YouTube, or you need to know the embed code for them. 6) Click Save or Save and Close. Step 6: Editing Pages and Artifacts 1) On the Content/Layout tab, use the arrow to the right of the page or artifact to open the context menu.
5 Getting Started with E-Portfolio For Students Page 5 of 6 2) Click Page Properties for pages and Edit Display Options for artifacts. 3) Change the Title or Description of the item, if desired. a. NOTE: This will only change the title or description within the presentation, not on the artifact in My Items. 4) For artifacts: a. Choose whether you want the artifact to display in-place or as a link (if applicable). i. NOTE: You can display the following file types in-place: HTML, BMP, GIF, JPG, and PNG. Flash and QuickTime file formats require corresponding browser plugins. b. Choose whether you want to auto-fit the artifact to the content area it displays in, or maintain its original size (if applicable). c. Select which reflections associated with the artifact to display in the presentation (if applicable). d. Select the appropriate options related to displaying comments and assessments. i. NOTE: The Comments enabled check box on the Edit Display options page corresponds to the Comments Enabled checkbox that appears on the Content/Layout tab. Selecting one enables the other and vice versa. 5) For text items: a. Use the arrow to the right of the item to choose Edit i. NOTE: it is suggested that you do not change the font, as it will automatically match the rest of the presentation. The font for the overall presentation cannot be changed. 6) Click Save.
6 Getting Started with E-Portfolio For Students Page 6 of 6 Step 7: Reordering and Deleting Pages, Artifacts and Text 1) On the Content/Layout tab, use the Reorder icon to change the order of pages, and click on the Up or Down arrows move the artifacts and text items on their page 2) Use the arrow to the right of the page you wish to delete to select Delete, and use the Delete icon to remove artifacts or text from your presentation Step 8: Customize your Banner 1) Click on the Banner tab on the Edit Presentation page. 2) The banner title will appear to the left of the screen and the banner description will appear to the right, depending on your theme 3) Click on Save when done. Step 9: Choose and Customize your Theme 1) Click on the Theme tab on the Edit Presentation page. 2) There are a variety of pre-loaded themes. To see a live preview, click on the Preview icon to the far right of the theme. 3) To select a theme, choose the Select button under the theme description 4) To customize a selected theme, use the Customize icon to the right of your current theme 5) Click Save when done. Step 10: View your Presentation 1) At the top of the page, under the title for your presentation, click on View Presentation. It will either open in a new tab or new window.
