1 UAccess Analytics has been updated to a new version of software! Naturally, a software update means there are some new features and functions available to UAccess Analytics users. An Updated Look One thing that everyone will notice is that analyses and dashboards have acquired a new look. When you navigate to any dashboard, you will see every section of that dashboard displayed in bubbles or distinct sections. This is the new default look provided by Oracle. Of course, there are other useful changes you might wish to know about. If you re mostly a dashboard user, check out the New Features for All Users list below. If you also create analyses and dashboards, peruse the New Features for Power Users section starting on page 3. Users of mobile devices should pay attention to the New Features for Mobile Users section on the last page. New Features for All Users 1. Updated Pivot Tables Pivot tables are everywhere in Analytics. A good example is the Current Account Balances analysis on the Financial > General Financial Management dashboard. The old pivot tables had a header row that looked like this. That empty gray box told you this was a pivot table. The same pivot tables live on the same dashboard pages, but the header row has been simplified. It will now look like this. No more empty gray boxes, leaving more room for data. 2 2. Fixed Headers with Scrolling Content If this feature has been enabled by the report builder, you will have the ability to scroll within specific analyses or reports on a dashboard. The page navigation buttons at the bottom of the analysis will not be available. Instead, you ll see a vertical scroll bar along the right side of the analysis. As you scroll within the analysis, the column headers will be locked in place, allowing you to scroll through all of the rows of data while still seeing those column headers. 3. Resize Rows and Columns If the Fixed Headers with Scrolling Content feature has been enabled for a specific analysis, you will also have the ability to resize columns and rows within that table or pivot table. As you move your mouse over the line that divides columns, your mouse pointer will change to a resize cursor similar to what you d see when adjusting column widths or row heights in Microsoft Excel or within a table in Microsoft Word. 4. Exporting Dashboard Analyses to Excel Improved This function will now work on Macs, and will work better on PCs. From a dashboard, click Export > Excel for a dashboard analysis, then select your version of Excel. To export Data only, select Export > Data > CSV Format or Tab-delimited Format. 5. Exporting Dashboards to Excel From the Page Options button, you can now export a single dashboard page or an entire dashboard set. Analytics will send the page(s) to Excel, formatted to resemble Analytics. You could instead consider exporting a specific dashboard analysis to Excel, or exporting the data from that specific analysis to CSV or Tab-delimited format, as above. This may be more useful. 6. Return to Dashboard A new "Return to <Dashboard>" option was added to the upper-right corner of the Analysis editor. This option appears when you are viewing a dashboard for which you have editing rights and click an embedded analysis' Analyze or Edit link. You can click this option to easily move from the analysis editor back to the dashboard. 2

3 7. Breadcrumbs Breadcrumbs have been added to help you understand your current location within Analytics and the path you followed to navigate to get to that content. Breadcrumbs are available when you are viewing any dashboard and click the Analyze or Edit link. Breadcrumbs display at the bottom of the page. You can click a breadcrumb or the breadcrumb overflow button to navigate to a specific location on the breadcrumb trail. New Features for Power Users In addition to those features mentioned above, Analytics users who also create analyses and dashboards for themselves, their departments, or their colleges will find additional features available. 1. Replace Analysis in Dashboards A new Replace Analysis in <Dashboard> option has been added to the Save As dialog box. This option displays when you are viewing a dashboard for which you have editing rights, you click an embedded analysis' Analyze or Edit link, edit the analysis, and select Save As to rename and save the analysis. Checking the option box allows you to include the modified analysis on the dashboard. When you use this option, the new version of the analysis will replace the old version on the dashboard. The old version of the analysis will remain in your Catalog (or the department or college catalog) until it is deleted. 2. Content Paging or Fixed Headers with Scrolling Content You now have the ability to specify the method by which users can browse data within a specific table or pivot table view either fixed headers with scrolling content or content paging. The option can be changed when you are editing that specific table or pivot table view, and you select the View Properties button in the Edit View screen. Fixed Headers is selected by default for new analyses. 3. Row Counts If your table or pivot table view contains a grand total or subtotal rows, those grand total and subtotals rows are now included in the Rows per Page count for content. See image above. Previously, if you had the Rows per Page count set to 10, for example, the table or pivot table would display 10 data rows plus the subtotal and totals rows. Now, subtotals and totals count as rows. This means you have better control over how your analyses are displayed on dashboards. 3

4 4. Recommended Visualizations for Creating Graph Views When you wish to create a graph view, you can choose a recommended view type based on the data in your analysis and, optionally, what you want to use it for (for example, to analyze trends). You can choose a suggested "Best Visualization" as well as a "Recommended Subtype". Or you can instead choose the "Recommended Visualization" option, for which you specify your intent for the new view. If you choose to allow Analytics to help you create your new graph view, you will have to make some extensive edits to that graph. It s still a useful function, but you ll want to be prepared to make those edits. 5. New Data Views Performance Tiles Performance Tiles display a single aggregate measure value in a visually simple and prominent manner. This view might be useful for upper management, giving them access to summary data without detail. Access to detail data can be provided through an action link. Waterfall Graphs Waterfall Graphs display how an initial value changes over time, either positively or negatively, and can incorporate the total value, focusing your attention on how each measure contributes to the whole. 100% Stacked Bar Graphs The 100% Stacked Bar Graph allows you to compare proportional distributions within categories, as well as displaying the value differences between categories. The Y-axis scale is always zero to 100 percent. 4

5 Trellis Chart Grids A Trellis Chart Grid is a data-dense view type that displays large amounts of data in a relatively small area for comparative analysis. 6. Enhancements to Dashboards Freezing Columns When creating a dashboard page, you now have the option to freeze a column at the top or left edge of a dashboard page. For example, you could add a dashboard prompt to your department or college dashboard, and elect to freeze that dashboard prompt. Doing so is similar to freezing column headers. Users would be able to scroll the bottom of the dashboard page, and the dashboard prompt would stay in place. Page Size A new Page Size option is available, with the default for new dashboard pages set to Fit Content. This setting will result in your dashboard columns being sized to fit the specific column content, aligning everything to the left. The other option is Fill Browser Window. This option expands the content to fill the width of the browser window, and aligns dashboard content to the center of the dashboard page. This appears to be a better option. Column Size Column can also be sized differently on dashboard pages. Use this option to specify how a column or section in a dashboard page is to be sized: Best Fit Sets the dashboard column to whatever size best fits the content, small or large. This is the default option. Specific Size Sets the container to the size specified in the Width and Height fields. If the container is smaller than needed to fit the content, a scroll bar is displayed. Note that this option is set automatically if you enter a value in the Width or Height field. Minimum Size Sets the container to at least the size specified in the Width and Height fields but increases the size if necessary to accommodate the content. A scroll bar is never displayed with this option. When you print a dashboard page that includes a container in which a scroll bar is displayed, the entire container is printed, including the scroll bar. 5

6 New Features for Mobile Users If you access Analytics via a mobile device an ipad, an iphone, or an Android device you ll be happy to know that the features listed above have translated to the new version of Analytics, along with a couple of features specific to mobile devices. 1. Maximize views with a Double-Tap With this new feature, you can access more data on your mobile device even within dense dashboards without the restrictions of the smaller form factor. You expand an individual view by double-tapping on it. The individual view then displays within the full screen of the device. This maximizing of views can be done on views accessed within a dashboard, and also when viewing an analysis independent of a dashboard. 2. New Views and Graphs All of the new views and graph types are available on mobile devices. 3. Fixed Headers with Scrolling Content In analyses with fixed headers, you can use a single-finger drag gesture to scroll through data in all directions. 4. Changing Orientation It is now possible to change between landscape and portrait orientation while viewing Oracle BI content. 5. Breadcrumbs You can see the navigation path you have taken while moving through the catalog as a trail of breadcrumbs (near the top of the screen by the Back arrow). In this way, you can see your current location and how you got there, then decide whether to use the Back arrow to navigate in reverse, or to use the Home icon to quickly return to the Home screen. 6. Viewing of Publisher Reports in Dashboards You can now view Publisher reports in dashboards. 6
