The intent of these sites is to provide parents and students with information about curriculum, instruction, school activities, and other general information relating to the class. All website information and use must comply with the Parent s Response Regarding Release of Student Information and RISD Responsible Use of Technology Policy. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 1 of 21

2 Required Components and Pages (*Denotes Required Page) Left sidebar on all pages with the following items in order: Navigation, E-Note Sign-up, Calendar, and Contact information including the required information from the Profile page. Optional Components Additional sidebar items should be placed in the left sidebar after the calendar. Do not include a right sidebar on required pages. All required pages should have a white background with black text unless there is color within the template *Homepage using the district provided template Edit all information on this page template with your class information. (Do not change the format of this page or the text size. The page was designed so that parents can see important information without scrolling down the page.) Optional information on this page should be at the bottom of the page after the course descriptions. *Assignments/Homework Page(s) for each prep using the district lesson plans template (Do not include a course description.) *Document Directory Page named Classroom Resources or a Single Page named Classroom Resources with links to classroom documents Junior High and High School teachers are required to include the class syllabus in pdf format. These instructions use the Document Directory Page since less work is required, but teachers that want to include text on the Classroom Resources page may opt to use a Single Page like this one. *Directory of Links Page named Educational Websites with a link to textbook website if available Optional documents (preferably in pdf format) for student and parent use. Some teachers may choose to have more than one Classroom Resources page which can be named by the <Subject> Resources. Any website links that are useful for the students and/or parents Optional pages should be located after the Educational Websites page. *Single Page named <Your Name s> Digital Badges displaying all digital badges earned *Personal Profile Page named <Your Name s> Profile with school address, work phone, conference time, and classroom number Note: Follow web design conventions and do not underline words that are not links. 3 Edit the Homepage Template Scroll to the bottom of the page at and click the Log In link in the bottom right. Login with your first initial and last name (example: kzink) and password or use the Google login. 1. Under the Pages section on the left, click on your name to go to your homepage. 2. (Optional) Change the graphic. Click on the graphic to select it and tap the Delete key. Use the picture icon to insert a photo. (Follow all copyright guidelines.) 3. Edit the class name, address, school phone number. 4. Edit the Daily Schedule. 5. Click the update page button to save changes! RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 3 of 21

4 Add Your Syllabus to Your Document Drawer (Not Required for ES/MS) 1. If necessary, click File Cabinet on the left to expand the menu. Click on Document Drawer under File Cabinet on the left. 2. Click the Manage Documents button to add, delete, or view documents in the drawer. 3. Use the SELECT FILES button to upload your syllabus and any other document(s). 4. After the document(s) have loaded, use the pencil icon in the Delete/View Documents section to give the document a title. Note: Links to all documents in this Document Drawer will appear on the Classroom Resources page since this folder will be selected to display the contents in step 2 of the Setup the Classroom Resources Page section. 5 Add a Link to Your Syllabus on Your Homepage (Not Required for ES/MS) 1. Go back to your homepage by clicking on your name under the Pages section on the left.. 2. Edit the subject name(s) under SYLLABUS. 3. Highlight the subject and link to the syllabus pdf in your Document Drawer using the link icon. a. Use the Link to a Document in Your Documents Drawer: drop-down menu to select your syllabus. b. Click on the Target tab and select New Window (_blank). c. Click OK. 4. 6 Edit the SUPPLY LIST and Course Description(s) on Your Homepage 1. Edit the items in the SUPPLY LIST. 2. Edit the course description(s). 3. Click Update Page to save the changes! Setup the Classroom Resources Page (The following steps 1-3 have been completed for you, but check to make sure the correct folder was selected in step #2.) 1. Under the Pages section on the left, click on the Classroom Resources page. 2. Select a folder <Documents: Example Teacher> using the drop down menu to set the contents of this page to the documents in that folder. 3. Click the Update Page button. Note: Links to all documents in this Document Drawer will appear on the Classroom Resources page since this folder was selected to display the contents in step 2. 7 Add Links to Educational Websites Page 1. Click on the Educational Websites link under Pages on the left. 2. Click on the MANAGE LINKS button at the top to view websites you have added to the page. 3. Click on the CREATE LINKS button at the top to add links to the page. a. Enter the Title of the website (Example: Explore Texas!). b. Enter the URL/WEB Address (Example: ). c. Optional: Enter Extra Details and/or an image. 4. Select the placement of the website on the page using the Order drop-down menu. 5. Click the save button. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 7 of 21

8 Setup Profile Page 1. Click on <Your Name s> Profile page under the Pages section on the left. 2. Click on the Manage Your Profile link. 3. Click the + next to CONTACT INFORMATION and enter the following: a. Address b. Title c. Classroom Number d. School Phone Number e. Conference Time 4. Click the Save Changes button. 9 Setup the Assignment/Homework Page(s) for Lesson Plans 1. Click on your homepage in the Pages section on the left. 2. Click on the MANAGE PAGES IN THIS SECTION button to view the pages in your site. 3. Check to make sure you have the following required pages in order excluding the Homepage and Assignments/Homework page(s) for now. a. Classroom Resources b. Educational Websites c. <Your Name s> Digital Badges d. <Your Name s> Profile 4. Any optional pages such as Daily Schedule or Photo Album that are not being used can be turned OFF if you plan to use them later or deleted if you do not ever plan to use them. 5. If you already have an Assignments/Homework page, you may use the pencil icon to edit the title so that it is <Class Name> Assignments or you may use the X icon to delete the page and create a new one. 6. Use the ADD A PAGE TO THIS SECTION to create an Assignments/Homework page for each subject you teach. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 9 of 21

10 7. Select Assignments/Homework for the Page Type. 8. Click NEXT. 9. Enter the Page Title which will be <Subject> Assignments. 10. Use the Select Left Sidebar Module Layout drop-down to select Left Modules: <Example Teacher>. 11. Use the Select Order drop-down menu to select First on the List for your first subject (put other subjects after the previous subject). 12. Click the Save button. 13. Repeat steps 6-12 for each subject you teach. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 10 of 21

11 Add Link(s) to Your Assignments/Homework Pages in the STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS Section on Your Homepage 1. Go to your Homepage by clicking on your name in the Pages section on the left. 2. Edit the text under STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS so that your subject(s) are listed with the word Assignments after them. 3. Link to your Assignments/Homework pages(s): a. Highlight the text <Your Subject> Assignments under the STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS section. b. Click the link icon. c. Use the Link to a Page Within Your Site: drop down menu to find <Your Subject> Assignments page under your name. d. Click OK. 4. Repeat step 3 for any other subjects you teach. 5. Click the update page button to save the changes! RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 11 of 21

12 Add Your TEKS (if available) for Your Assignments/Homework Page(s) Add Lesson Plans to the Assignments/Homework Page(s) 1. Decide if you want to use Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or to create your own template on the Assignments/Homework page of the web site (skip to page 14 to create your own template) when you type your lesson plans. a. Create a folder either in your Google Drive or H: drive titled <Your Subject> Lesson Plans. 2. Use the Daily or Weekly Google Doc lesson plan template in the Google Team Drive at District>Lesson Plans or the Daily or Weekly Word Document lesson plan template at X:>District>Lesson Plans to type your lesson plan. Be sure to save your lesson plan in your Lesson Plans folder created in step Go to <Your Subject> Assignments page by clicking on it under the Pages section on the left. 4. If necessary, click on the ADD HOMEWORK & ASSIGNMENTS button at the top. 5. Complete all required information. a. Enter the Lesson Title. b. Enter the Start Date. (End Date is optional.) c. Use the Repeat? drop down menu if you want to repeat the lesson. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 12 of 21

13 d. Copy your lesson plan from your Google Doc or Word document and paste it to the Lesson Details. e. Optional: Use the Attach Homework, Study Guides, Handouts, etc. from the File Cabinet: to include links to lesson documents. 6. Click the Add Standards button to add the Lesson TEKS. 7. Click the Save Event button. Notes: Use the MANAGE HOMEWORK & ASSIGNMENTS button at the top of the page to edit/delete current and past homework/assignments. Do not enter a COURSE DESCRIPTION. 14 How to Create a Lesson Plan Template in the Website 1. Click on "Add Homework & Assignments." 2. Title the lesson plan something you will be able to find easily (and something parents won't get confused about) 3. Set a start date and end date that doesn't interfere with the school year, and therefore, won't show up on your normal calendar. 4. Complete the information for the template how you want it. (You may add the horizontal line after Homework: as a visual divider for parents. The icon for this option is the striped lines beside the smiley face.) 5. Click the Save Event button at the bottom of the page. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 14 of 21

15 6. After saving, you should return automatically to the main assignments page. 7. (Steps from here on you will do each time you use the template.) Find your template. Depending on what date you choose, you might have to click on "Manage Past Events". 8. Once you have located your lesson plan, you need to click the Duplicate icon. 9. Edit the items as needed. 10. 16 How to Manage E-Notes Pro E-notes Pro allows the district, campuses, departments and teachers to send unlimited S and TEXTS directly to parents and students! Select a group or select individuals to send s and/or texts. When an E-Note is added to the website, people can subscribe for information to be sent to them. Subjects subscribed to can include: District, Campuses, Organizations, Athletics, Classes, Teachers, etc. School Administrators can use E-Notes to send messages about upcoming events, school cancellations, and other news. Teachers can use E-Notes to notify parents about upcoming tests and classroom projects. Coaches can send practice schedules and let parents know when they will be returning from games. E-Notes replace paper handouts that never make it home. E-Notes keep statistics and history to protect you. 1. If necessary, click the Messaging section on the left to expand it. 2. Click E-Notes Pro. 3. Click the or Text button. (Voice messaging is not available for RISD.) a. To send an , fill out the Subject and Content. Make sure your address is correct in the Address of Sender field. Select either Send Now or Schedule it to send. Click Send. b. To send a text, fill out the message in the Text/SMS Content 140 characters remaining field. Select either Send Now or Schedule it to send. Click Send. 17 How to Add a Left Sidebar to a Page (Note: Left sidebars have already been added to all your required pages. The following steps are provided for any additional pages you create.) Each required page should have a left sidebar sidebar with the following items in order: Navigation, E-Note Sign-up, Calendar, and Contact information including the required information from the Profile page. If a page is missing a left sidebar, add it with the following steps. 1. Click on the page in the Pages section on the left. 2. Click on Page Settings. 3. Use the Left Sidebar Module Layout drop-down menu to select <Your Name> (Left Modules). 4. Click the submit button. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 17 of 21

18 How to Link a Google Document on a Web Page (If approved by principal, you may link to a Google Document for your lesson plans.) To obtain the link for the web page from your document: 1. Open the document in your Google Drive. 2. Click File>Publish to the web 3. Click the blue Publish button. If prompted, click OK to publish this selection. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 18 of 21

19 4. Press Ctrl+C to copy the highlighted link or right-click on the highlighted link and select Copy. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 19 of 21

20 To put the link on your web page: (Make sure you are logged in to edit your web pages) 1. Go to the web page where you want to put the link to the document and click edit this page at the top if necessary. 2. Type "link", 7th Grade Mathematics Syllabus, or whatever name you want to give the link. 3. Highlight the name of the link to select it and click the link icon. 4. Click in the URL field and paste your link you copied back on step #6 above using the <Ctrl>V keyboard shortcut or by right-clicking and selecting Paste. 5. Click on the Target tab and select New Window (_blank) if you want the link to open in a new window. 6. Click Ok. RISD Teacher Web Pages - Page 20 of 21

21 Checklist for Teacher Web Pages Go to your home page, click on the edit this page button at the top, and click on the MANAGE PAGES IN THIS SECTION button at the top. Do you have the following required pages in this order: <Your Subject> Assignments page(s) (Assignments/Homework-lesson plans) for each prep, Classroom Resources page (Document Directory), Educational Websites (Directory of Links), optional pages, <Your Name s> Digital Badges (Single Page), <Your Name s> Profile? Are all of the required pages (<Your Subject> Assignments, Classroom Resources, Educational Websites, <Your Name s> Digital Badges, <Your Name s> Profile) turned ON in the Visibility column? Is the Old Home Page either turned OFF (click Visibility button to OFF) or deleted (use the red X to delete the page if the information on it is no longer needed)? Click the orange Back To Site button in the top left. If necessary click on <Your Name> Home page to go to your home page. Have all sections in the home page template been edited with your information? Is your address linked? Does your home page have a left sidebar with the following in this order: Navigation, E-Note Sign-Up, Calendar, and Contact information? (Note: There should NOT be a right sidebar.) Does the Contact section of the left sidebar contain your school address, work phone, conference time, and classroom number? Does each page have a left sidebar? Click on each of the required pages (<Your Subject> Assignments, Classroom Resources, Educational Websites, <Your Name s> Digital Badges, <Your Name s> Profile) in the left sidebar navigation to check for the left sidebar. Do you have an assignments page (lesson plans) using the template completed for each prep? Junior High and High School Teachers Only: Does the Classroom Resources page have a link to your class syllabus in pdf format?
