1 Deeper Dive Webinar Simple Pages Presented by pixels2pages Below you will find some basic notes for the Forever Deeper Dive Webinar Simple Pages. These notes, paired with the recording of the Deeper Dive session, will help you successfully implement the techniques shown in the Deeper Dive. Layout #1 The Flowers of the West Bluff Simple 1. Add a photo holder to the page. Use the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) to make the width 4 inches and the height 6 inches. Copy and paste twice so that you have 3 photo holders of equal size. 2. Use the QAT to position the photo holders so that a photo is at each of the following positions: x=0 y=0; x=4 y=0; x=8 y=0 3. Add another photo holder to page. Use the QAT to make the width 6 and the height 4. Copy and paste that photo holder and manually position each photo holder in the bottom left and bottom right positions. Fill all of the photo holders with photos. 4. Add multiple text boxes to create your title and journaling and place them in the empty strip on the page. 5. If you have a photo that needs rotation, open the embedded image by right-clicking the photo, then selecting photo>edit. Grab the green handle at the top of the image and rotate as necessary. Save and close the embedded image. Enhanced 6. Go to Insert>Shape>Rectangle and add a rectangle to the page. Size the rectangle to cover the empty space and hang off either edge of the page (roughly inches wide and 2.25 inches tall). Fill the rectangle with color and change the color of the stroke. Click Create. 7. Go to Filter>Surface>Texture and apply a surface to the rectangle. 8. Use the elements panel to position the rectangle behind the title and journaling. Decorative 9. Add a blendable or cluster embellishment to the page and position behind the title. 10. Select the title. Go to Format>Glow and apply a soft glow to the title being sure to sample the lightest color from the embellishment or use white. 11. Change the color of the journaling and/or title. Page 1 of 7

2 Layout #2 Dinner at the Woods Simple 1. Add three empty photo holders to the page. Size to your liking and position them vertically. Use the arrange tools and tracking lines to ensure proper alignment. 2. Go to Insert>Line>Straight line or path. Insert a line with a compound stroke parallel to the photos. Change the color of your line then click create. 3. Copy and paste the line and position the copy to the opposite side of the photos. Use the alignment tools to make sure the photos and lines are evenly spaced. 4. Add a photo to an empty corner and use the elements panel to position behind the lines and three photos. 5. Go to Cut>Straight>Blended edge and blend away an exposed edge. 6. Using the QAT reduce the opacity of the blended photo. 7. Add a title and journaling in two separate text boxes. Enhanced 8. Use the QAT to fill the text box containing the title with solid color. Use the HSB slider to reduce the opacity. (Note: to change the opacity you will need to first make the fill transparent and then refill with color.) 9. Use the QAT to add a coordinating simple stroke to the text box containing the title. 10. Position the title over the photos. 11. Right click the Title Shape>Edit shape and add a point halfway between the 2 points on the shortest exposed side. Drag that point in to create the shape of a banner. Decorative 12. Choose one or two embellishments. Copy and paste them multiple times. Position the embellishments to frame the page. Use the arrange tools to flip and rotate the embellishments so that they look slightly different. Layout #3 The Wedding Cake House Simple 1. Go to Insert>Shape>Ellipse and add a large circle to the page. Position it so that half or more of the circle hangs off the page. Fill the circle with a patterned paper and change the color of the stroke. Click Create. 2. Go to Insert>Shape>Rectangle and add a rectangle to the page. Make sure the width is and the height is approximately 6. Layer the Page 2 of 7

3 rectangle across the center of the circle, fill with solid color and change the color of the stroke. Click Create. 3. Add a photo holder to the page. Use the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) to make the width 3 inches and the height 5 inches. Copy and paste twice so that you have 3 photo holders of equal size. 4. Position the photo holders horizontally across the rectangle. Use the QAT to center the photo holders and the rectangle horizontally. Fill photo holders with photos. 5. Add a text box with your title in the space below the rectangle. Add a text box with journaling to the space above the rectangle. Enhanced 6. Fill the background with color. 7. Go to Filter>Surface>Texture and apply a surface to the rectangle. 8. Using the QAT, apply a thin stroke in a coordinating color to the three photos. 9. Apply shadows to the elements on the page. Decorative 10. Select the photo which is layered over both the rectangle and the circle. Enlarge the photo, making sure its height is larger than the rectangle. Use the elements panel to position the larger photo behind the two smaller photos. 11. Go to Photo>Mat and apply a standard mat to the largest photo. 12. Add a patterned paper to the workspace. While having the paper selected, go to Insert>Stamp and apply a blended color stamp to the page. Make sure the stamp is the full width and height of the page. Sample the color from the layout s background. Use the HSB slider to increase the saturation and decrease the brightness just enough so it is noticeable on the background. Click Create. Use the elements panel to move the stamp so that it is below all of the elements but above the background. 13. Add any additional embellishments desired. Page 3 of 7

5 Creating a double page spread: This put2practice will give you ideas for changing the single page layouts shown in this webinar into double page spreads. Note: Always start in single page view. Layout 1 The Flowers of the West Bluff (Simple, Enhanced or Decorative Option) 1. Go to the Pages panel, click the drop down menu on the layout you created and select Duplicate this page. 2. Go to View>Spreads and change your view to the appropriate double page view. 3. Remove the title and journaling box on the duplicate page and fill the empty space/textured shape with six 2 x 2 photos. Layout # 2 Dinner at The Woods (Enhanced Option) 1. Go to the Pages panel, click the drop down menu and insert a blank page. 2. Go to View>Spreads and change your view to the appropriate double page view. 3. When using embellishments to frame the page, only frame 3 sides of each page. Do not decorate the connecting sides of the double page spread. 4. Add 2 columns of 3 photos to fill the page in a linear fashion like the original page. 5. Optional: Insert line with compound style and place parallel to either side of the photos. Layout #3 Wedding Cake House (Simple, Enhanced or Decorative Option) 1. Go to the Pages panel, click the dropdown menu of the existing page and select Insert mirror image of this page. Go to View>Spreads and change your view to the appropriate double page view. Using the Pages Panel, drag the pages into the correct order, if necessary. 2. Replace photos and add additional photos if desired. (Note: If creating a mirror image of an enhanced page, you may need to resize the large photo on one of the pages. Page 5 of 7
