Process for posting content on the CCNY home page The Office of Communications and Marketing welcomes content submissions from all departments and offices for consideration for posting on the home page. In the event that submitted contentt is not appropriate for the home page, the Office of Communications and Marketing will work with you to identify the most appropriate area(s) of the college s web presence for your content. Content is displayed on the home page through three main channels: : Upcoming Events CCNY News / Recent News Sliders / Call outs A different process exists for posting to each content channel. Upcoming Events Members of the college community submit on campus events to the main online calendar via a web form located at: http: // event.cfm Once the event is submitted, it is approved by the Office of Communications and Marketing for posting on the main website. Approvals for calendar items occur each business morning. The first four events, as determined by date, are automatically displayed on the home page. If required, a member of the communications team can turn off an item from displaying the home page. If event details need to be changed after the event has been submitted, please send a support request e mail to: support@ccnywebsite.zendesk.com.
CCNY News / Recent News The PR team in the Office of Communications and Marketing creates news releases that appear in the central column just below the hero slider. Communications staff writes news releases based on issues of widespread interest and majorr accomplishments and selects four stories to highlight in the Recent News box on the home page. Sliders/Call-outs The CCNY home page features three areas with prominently display selected content. They are: (Fig. 1) 1. Hero slider The hero slider occupies the area directly under the main website navigation menus and is the prime focus of the home page. Content is rotated automatically on a timer. 2. Features slider This slider occupies the area to the right of the Upcoming Events and CCNY News / Recent News columns. Content is rotated by user prompt. 3. Call outs The call outs are a grouping of content located on the lower half of the home page.
Fig. 1
The components of each slider or call out entry include: Title Body copy Image Link to expanded feature story or additional information Category* *Only required for call outs. Examples include: Department Spotlight, Program Spotlight, Photo Album. Components of Hero Slider Components of Features Slider Components of a Call out
Process for posting to sliders/call-outs areas The college community is encouraged to submit information for possible posting to slider/call out areas on the home page. For the hero slider it is usually a major event or series of events on campus, such as a visit by Justice Sotomayor or our celebration of Black History Month. The features slider on the lower right hand side contains other items of note from students, faculty, CUNY and others to be highlighted. In the remaining call outs, CCNY programs, departments and special activities are featured. While material often originates from the Office of Communications and Marketing, we also welcome art and photographs from everyone around campus. Please remember that the City College website is a public site, as such all information and photographs must be appropriate for the presentation of the college. Content Submission Guidelines a. Correct formatting of content 1. Title: 2 3 words 2. Body copy: 200 character limit (including spaces) 3. Image Appropriate artwork is necessary resolution, composition, proportion, aesthetic appeal. For example, please note: Hero sliders may display images in two formats: standard and large. The large format requires a high resolution photograph that supports cropping to 1800px x 900px while still leaving appropriate composition of the subject(s) of the photograph to properly fill the screen. In addition, all submitted artwork must be accompanied by proof that it can be used on the website without violation of copyright/license. The work must either be in the public domain or must have an appropriate release. 4. Link to expanded feature story or additional information Meaningful content to which the reader will jump after reading the brief introduction. This is usually an expanded feature story or additional information. The resource must be of sufficient quality for placement on the home page. Examples of quality linking sources include: items with expanded content (more than a simple paragraph), polished advertisements or publicity pieces. 5. Category: 2 3 words b. Reliable content sources for multimedia photos or video embedded onto the page Sliders and call outs have the possibility to feature Flickr photosets (except the hero slider) and YouTube videos from users posting on those websites. Please use only trusted content providers as embed sources to protect the college from prominently linking to questionable content providers on the home page. c. Timeliness of content Please submit content in advance of any time sensitive event/happening to allow time for communications staff to review, prepare, and schedule posting. d. Relevance of content to a broad audience The submitted material should have broad relevance to college constituents and the community at large.
Please note: The Office of Communications and Marketing reserves the right to modify submitted content for web display. Determination of content fitness Based upon the above guidelines, the Office of Communications and Marketing undertakes a final review as to whether submitted content will be placed on the home page, and the optimum scheduling of such. Taken into consideration is the balance of content on the home page at any given time and how any new piece impacts the diversity of the overall themes on the home page. Regardless of whether content is deemed appropriate for the home page, the Office of Communications and Marketing will work with you to identify the most appropriate means of display for your information. If you have any questions about potential content for the CCNY home page, please contact: Lloyd Balch Website Manager lbalch@ccny.cuny.edu
