2 Build A C++ External Library TC can now generate the make file to use for building the library from a CDT project No longer necessary to manually write a make file for a CDT project that should be part of a build Building LibraryFunc.tc first generates a make file from the CDT project Pi_libraryFunc, and then runs the build command. The Build folder setting specifies the CDT project and may also specify the CDT configuration (making the CDT Configuration name setting optional).

3 C++ Transform Automatic generation of type descriptors Now also done for attributes typed by pointers to const types (const T*) Generated in the same way as when typed by a pointer to a non-const type Avoids need to define typedef classes just for the purpose of defining a type descriptor for const types Extended support for generation of Doxygen comments Now also supported for events, ports and operation parameters Support for more kinds of markup in rich text comments (converted to plain text)

4 Transformation Configuration (1/2) New command Organize Sources Wizard which provides useful optimizations of the Sources list, for example to optimize existing list (add missing referenced elements and remove unused elements) Useful to avoid building too much (e.g. instead of building a package, only build those elements in the package that are really used) The command works by analyzing the model (not C++ source code)

5 Transformation Configuration (2/2) Now possible to move multiple TCs at the same time Move command available in context menu of TCs shown under the Transformation Configurations virtual folder

6 Search (1/6) New search command Find Triggering Events Finds the events which may trigger transitions in a state machine. Available in the Find context menu on the following elements: + Capsule/Class which events are handled by the capsule/class? + State machine which events are handled by the state machine? + State which events may trigger a transition when the state is active? Order shows level for trigger in composite state hierarchy 0 = current level (i.e. level of search) 1 = one level up -1 = one level down etc. Double-click navigates to transition and more navigation choices available in the context menu Guards show when the trigger may be enabled to trigger a transition

7 Search (2/6) Improvements in the Find NamedElement dialog Now possible to search for events (new filter added) Separate columns added for element type and name, with sorting possibility, to make it easier to find the right element The active viewpoint is now used to filter the result list (for example OpaqueBehaviors are not found when using the Capsule Development viewpoint) Performance and stability improvements Commands added for common filter searches (Find Capsule, Find Operation etc). Key bindings can be defined for these commands in preferences (General - Keys)

8 Search (3/6) More improvements in the Find NamedElement dialog New button for viewing the result list in the Search View The Search View provides more options than the Find NamedElement dialog for search result navigation, for example Navigate To Diagram Enables saving the search result in the Search View history

9 Search (4/6) Find Dialog now presets search string from selection The name of the selected element is set as the default search string Simplifies the workflow when the Find dialog is used for finding references to a selected element Use the drop down menu to pick a previously used search string Find command now available on diagram symbols and lines Select the symbol and line and just press Ctrl+F No longer required to first navigate to the Project Explorer to run a search

10 Code Snippet References Search (5/6) Now supports the same search scopes as the References command in CDT Search - Model command Now available also in the UML Development perspective Makes it easier to search for a selected text in the model. Just select the text and press Ctrl + Shift + M

11 Search (6/6) Select Element Dialog Improvements The Browse tab now filters the result in the same way as the Project Explorer does Previously Now

12 Code Editing (1/4) Tabs instead of drop down menu for choosing code snippet Increases visibility of other code snippets (e.g. when editing a transition effect it's now visible if the transition has guard code) Tabs can be closed. To get them back, right-click in the tab area and choose from the context menu (presence of icon there means non-empty code snippet) A preference exists (Code View Code View Style) to use old style with drop down Boldface here shows the transition has a guard code snippet Private Declarations code snippet contains some code; others are empty

13 Code Editing (2/4) Better support for multi-line default values New button in Properties view for editing the default value using the Code editor Works for attributes and parameters Also possible to edit the default value by simply double-clicking on the attribute or parameter in the Project Explorer The C++ code generator now handles multi-line default values used in constructor initializers correctly

14 Code Editing (3/4) Improvements for Load Generated Source Partial transformation no longer runs when loading generated source code (because it caused significant slow-down and also was inaccurate since it was only partial) Changed default value of preference UML Development - Real Time - Run transformations when loading generated source Now, by default, prompting occurs if a model code snippet has been modified since the file was generated Pressing Yes in this dialog updates the source code, prior to loading it, by running the active TC (i.e. the regular transformation is used, not the partial one). If no TC is set as active, you will be prompted to select which TC to use.

15 Code Editing (4/4) Code view/editor is now read-only during C++ transformation Avoids risk of modifying code when it is not safe to do so, because code changes may be lost if an edited file gets overwritten by the code generator Hyperlink to container element now truncates in the middle The width of the hyperlink adjusts to the width of the code view / editor which makes the horizontal scrollbar work better for elements that have long names

16 Performance (1/2) Faster to switch between open code editors Code editor no longer looses file connection when switching to a different code editor. This also means the cursor position is not reset. This performance improvement is especially noticeable when files are large Processing model compilation errors Optimization to avoid processing the same error multiple times in different RSARTE sessions Improved performance of sorting in Properties view For example, sorting of Operations was previously slow Load Generated Source was made faster Improved by no longer running partial transform prior to loading

17 Performance (2/2) Improved performance of C++ transform Fewer queries spawned by Find NamedElement dialog Narrowing a search by using the features in the dialog is now faster Load UML Models optimizations This command is now at least 50% faster New preference UML Development - Startup for automatically loading UML models at startup.

18 Project Explorer Filtering out state and state machine regions Regions are now hidden when using the Capsule Development viewpoint. Regions are usually uninteresting since RT does not yet support multiple regions per state / state machine. Reduces depth in Project Explorer - good especially for deeply hierarchical state machines A new command Make Non-Composite is available in the context menu of a state to make it easier to convert a composite state to a regular state

19 Properties View (1/3) New hyperlinks in Connector property page Useful for navigating in big composite structure diagrams Shows information that is not visible in the diagram like the ports' protocols

20 Properties View (2/3) Sorting now supported in more Properties View tables Implemented for more tables where sorting is useful, for example Dependencies and Ports Creation of new elements is disabled when the table is sorted Multi-selection support in the Property Sets tab Allows to set the same property on multiple elements at the same time

21 Properties View (3/3) Navigation to dependencies now uses Dependencies tab When using the Capsule Development viewpoint dependencies are not shown in the Project Explorer, so the default navigation is not appropriate for them Navigating to a dependency now selects the supplier element in the Project Explorer, and the Dependencies tab in the Properties View shows the dependency Makes it easier to fix problems related to dependencies

22 Diagram Editing (1/2) Converting external self-transitions to internal transitions New command in Refactor context menu of states and transitions Warning appears if conversion changes model behavior Use of internal transitions instead of external self-transitions has many benefits, such as increased performance, better editing possibilities and UML2 compliance Note: This conversion may cause lots of changes in the model, so it's recommended to do it as a dedicated task to avoid many changes in Compare / Merge that may hide other changes you have done

23 Diagram Editing (2/2) Selection outlining remains while cursor is over a diagram view Makes it easier to see which symbols are connected by a line Makes it easier to select the right diagram view Preference for setting visual appearance for diagram selections Located in Modeling - Miscellaneous - Selection Feedback When navigating to a symbol or line it gets animated with a specified color for a specified duration (milliseconds). After that it gets highlighted with another color.

24 Sequence Diagrams (1/2) New Select Event for Message dialog Replaces the old Edit Message dialog (many usability and quality improvements) Now supports editing messages for delegation connectors New preferences for this dialog in UML Development Real Time Diagrams - Sequence

25 Sequence Diagrams (2/2) New Select Operation for Message dialog Supports better search for existing operations Possible to create new operations with inline typing of signature Diagram navigation from problems generated on non-rt models Previously double-click on such problems navigated only to Project Explorer In addition to sequence diagrams, such navigation also works for activity diagrams, state machine diagrams and composite structure diagrams

26 Compare/Merge (1/7) Code view and Properties view enabled for Compare/Merge Makes it easier to explore the contributor models or merge result model during a compare or merge session In this mode these views are read-only Also available from the change list using the context menu on a change/conflict Note that from the code view a diagram may be opened, so you can look at code conflicts in a diagram context

27 Compare/Merge (2/7) A type change is now presented as one single change A single Modify change instead of an Add+Delete change A move change for a diagram element is presented as one single change, and if it conflicts with another move change there will only be one conflict

28 Compare/Merge (3/7) Status bar now shows selected change description Useful since change descriptions can become quite long sometimes Navigate to Project Explorer from Compare/Merge UI Useful in order to explore a changed model element in the workspace model From the Project Explorer other navigation is possible as usual (for example to show the element in a diagram)

29 Compare/Merge (4/7) Better sorting of changes and conflicts Those related to model elements now come before those related to diagrams This is good because the diagram related conflicts are often auto-resolved by resolving the conflicts related to the model elements New sorting option introduced for sorting so that conflicts with many dependent changes appear before conflicts with few dependent changes This is now the default sorting Hint: Try to solve conflicts with many dependent changes first, since that may automatically resolve other conflicts too

30 Compare/Merge (5/7) Automatic sub-merge in code for non-conflict cases If the same code snippet is modified in both left and right contributor, but text changes are not conflicting, then a conflict is no longer reported Texts are analyzed on a line-by-line basis. More sophisticated analysis using C++ scanner/parser is not yet supported. If there are conflicting modifications you can accept either of them, but it's usually better to do the merge of the texts using the sub-merge pane since it allows the merged text to be directly edited. Explorer views now use same filter as the Project Explorer Easier to do compare/merge since the Explorer views look more familiar Previously Now

31 Compare/Merge (6/7) Better descriptions of conflicts and changes Skip technical information in the description which is hard to understand and makes the text very long The detailed description now shown in the text area below the change list Removed limit on max number of simultaneous C/M sessions Previously at most 20 sessions were allowed on the same machine at any point in time. Now, the range of C/M server ports can be extended beyond that. Use preference General - Compare/Patch - Modeling Compare/Merge - Compare/Merge Server - Alternate Port Range

33 Product Feedback (1/2) Sending of product feedback is now possible Configure it in Preferences - General - Product Feedback You can also enable monitoring of UI hangs in Preferences - General - Performance Monitors - User Interface Monitor. If the UI hangs for more than the specified period of time, an error log will be sent to IBM. Use a reasonable threshold value, for example 30 seconds

34 Product Feedback (2/2) Providing information about what happened Please enter the optional feedback information when error dialogs appear If you enter your address IBM can ask for more information if necessary No sensitive information is transferred to IBM, only information such as thread dumps, error logs etc. Data from the model is not transferred. To review what will be sent, press the Details button
