You will learn how online banking can make your life significantly easier, and also learn about the various procedures bank use to keep your identify protected online! Learn about Applications or "apps," the additional software programs that can be downloaded from Apple s App Store, Google s Play Store, or Microsoft s Store onto your device. There are millions of apps available including games, entertainment, weather, and news programs. Learn to navigate the store to find just what you are looking for. In today s mobile society, trying to juggle everyone s schedule is difficult at best. Using the calendar on our phone, tablet, or computer can help to organize us. In this workshop, we will review how to add, edit and view events (appointments) in your calendar. We will also learn to share your calendar with family and friends so they can see your schedule and even add events. Facebook is a social networking website that makes it easy for you to connect and share with your family and friends online. This workshop is for the never used or fairly new Facebook user. In this workshop we will explore all the parts of the website. We will review the homepage, timeline, trending stories, news feed and finding friends. We will also review the differences between Facebook s mobile app and the web browser version. This is a hands-on workshop to practice what was reviewed in the Intro workshop. You ll upload photos, add a photo for your cover and profile, post events, look up and join groups, organize photos, add friends and chat with a friend. Note: You must have a Facebook account in order to take this workshop. If you don t have an account, please make arrangements to do so before class. Understanding your privacy is one of the most important issues about Facebook. In this workshop, we will explore and modify your account settings - your password, notifications, privacy. We ll also look at other apps that are now part of the Facebook family. We will also review deactivating your account and preparing for your digital afterlife. The term cloud computing is everywhere but what does that mean to you? In your cloud, you can keep pictures, stories, designs, drawings, recordings, videos anything. We ll practice getting files stored in a cloud from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. In other words, wherever you go, your files follow. We will also practice quickly inviting others to view, download, and collaborate on all the files you want no attachment needed. This workshop is for experienced users but would like to learn more about Google s Gmail program. You will learn to search all your s to quickly find what you're looking for, create custom themes, take advantage of real-time notifications so you don't miss important s, switch easily between labels and multiple Gmail accounts and figure out how the inbox organizes into five optional tabs: primary, social, promotions, updates and forums. Note: You must have a Gmail account in order to take this workshop. If you don t have an account, please make arrangements to do so before class Google Search is the most-used search engine on the Web. This workshop is for those that have been using Google for a while and want to learn to use the advanced search page and 22 other special features. During this workshop we will also explore features of other search engines and why you may want to use them. Google Maps makes navigating your world faster and easier. Find the best spots (restaurants, museums) in town; what s the best time to visit and of course how to get there. Get turn-by-turn (audio and visual) directions for driving, biking, and walking that include live traffic conditions and automatic rerouting. The Maps App is a destination unto itself.

Pins can be all sorts of things pictures, videos, animations, and internet links. Pinterest allows you to find, collect and organize things that you find of interest on the internet. In this workshop we will create boards (categories) with a series of pins (visual bookmarks) Stay connected with family and friends when you can't be there in person. We will instruct you how to place FREE video calls using Skype and FaceTime on your mobile devices - tablet, laptop or smartphone. In this workshop, you will practice placing your video calls with other students in the workshop. Skype is available as an app for Android, ios (ipad, iphone) and Microsoft Windows. FaceTime is only available as an app for the ios (ipad/iphone). Do you hate to type on your mobile device(s)? No matter what operating system you are using there is a voice-recognition digital assistant available for you. You will practice asking questions and have Cortana (Microsoft), Google (Android) and Siri (ipad/iphone) provide answers. You will make requests and have Cortana, Google and/or Siri make it happen. This is the class for an overview of buttons, switches, gestures and screens. You will learn how to find everything on your device using the Google Search box, how to change your wallpaper, how organize your apps, and how to quickly navigate using the Notifications Bar and Quick Settings. During this workshop, we will review buttons, switches, gestures and screens. You will also learn how to personalize your Android device, set app options, add accounts and change other preferences. Every smartphone comes with an app for making phone calls. In this workshop we will review how to make calls from your phone's Keypad, Recent calls, Favorites, S Voice and Contacts. We will practice declining calls with preset messages, blocking contacts and using other apps during a phone call. Did you know that you can attach voice and photos to your text messages? Join our workshop to learn this and more. We ll review the latest major Windows 10 update, where everything is located, how to change the look (resize, move, control live tiles, and create personal groups) of the Start menu, and set the wallpaper for lock and desktop screens. We ll learn how to use search to instantly give you a variety of results recently used files, the windows store, your documents or search the web. We ll practice using the virtual assistant Cortana to perform tasks for us. We ll explore the new web browser Edge that is a replacement for Internet Explorer. Finally we ll use the Action Center s quick tools for thing you ll change or check often (web connection, location, Bluetooth, and brightness) In Windows 10, Settings allows you to perform most of the tasks you formerly accomplished using the Control Panel. In this workshop we ll learn to personalize the control features of various apps, devices, accounts, and more using the Settings window. In addition we will review User Account Control, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and how to update your computer. This is the class with an overview of buttons, switches, gestures and screens. You will learn to manage the apps on your home screen/doc, how to change your wallpaper and about the apps on your ios device will be explained. This is the class to learn how to find everything on your ios device (Spotlight/Search screen), use the Control Center to quickly set times, clocks and alarms (Clock app), navigate quickly between open apps (Multitasking screen) and use the Notification center

There s more to making phone calls than just using the keypad. In class we will review how to make calls from your Contacts, Recents, Voic , and Voice control (Siri). We will practice declining calls with preset messages, blocking contacts and using other apps during a call. Did you know that you can attach voice and photos to your text messages? Join our workshop to learn this and more. A smartphone is probably the most convenient camera you can have. It's a good idea to learn how your phone's camera works before you take a photo. Downloading the user manual for your smartphone helps to discover everything about your phone (and it s in larger print).. We ll review the menus and settings for special features; practice how to zoom in/out, take advantage of face detection, take movies, panoramic photos and of course the selfie. Now that you have a smartphone and taking more and more pictures with it, we will discuss techniques to make your photos even better. We will discuss how to prevent over and under exposure. We will explore the proper layout for taking scenery and portrait pictures. Photos straight from our smartphone usually aren't perfect but they can often be improved by making a few simple adjustments. We ll practice making simple adjustments to an image, such as cropping, resizing, and rotating, using your device s built-in software. We ll also look at some of the third-party apps that have more advanced features. Now that you've taken some wonderful photos, it's time to get them off of your device and onto your computer or in a cloud. We will explore the many ways to manage and share photos. We ll also practice organizing photos into folder or albums that will be easy to find FREE Shopping for Mobile Devices and Accessories Mini Tech Expo Wed. With so many options out there, how do you decide what mobile device is right for you? Should you get an e-reader, tablet, laptop, phablet, or smartphone? This presentation will help you narrow down your search and what questions to ask before making up your mind and spending your hard earned money. To complete the package, we ll talk about how to accessorize (speakers, keyboards, selfie stick and covers) After the presentation stay and visit with the Verizon Wireless and Radio Shack/Sprint vendor tables to view the variety of mobile devices that are available. This is a great time to ask questions.

5 Computer Workshop Fees Effective October 1, 2015 Workshop Fees: Each two-hour workshop is $20.00 except where designated FREE Workshop Fees for TLC + Members: Each two-hour workshop is $10.00 except where designated FREE Repeat any previously taken two-hour workshop and the fee is only $5.00 As an all-volunteer organization, all workshop fees collected by Technology Learning Center of Fountain Hills Arizona (TLC) are used to purchase new equipment, upgrade software, to pay rent to the Town of Fountain Hills and all other operational expenses. For students who plan to attend four (4) or more workshops during the next 12 months a TLC + membership may be financially beneficial. Membership is $40.00 per year ($70.00 per couple). As a TLC + member, each two-hour workshop is $10.00 (normally $20.00). TLC + members can also repeat any two-hour workshop for only $5.00.
